John may not have understood but it is super impressive to use the ground to white out a space in a finished painting and seamlessly add that beautiful china cup. Most of us just use the ground as a gesso to enrich bad paper but she is illustrating how versatile the colored grounds can be. I like using the black ground to test opacity by painting squares and stripes for more realistic results but she has taught me that i am not utilizing the grounds to their full potential. Thanks Julie.

I am teaching myself how to use the grounds. Since I am fairly new to watercolor I tend to make some mistakes. I only like 100% cotton paper so it can be expensive. The grounds free me up to experiment and just play. I love your products and I am so happy with myself for choosing them to build my pallet.

How are you using the ground mixed with watercolor? What is the desired effect of that?

My favorite live so far! Beautiful works.
Is Daniel Smith thinking about making gouache in the future since it’s become so popular?

I would like to know that too! And what is the effect you are going for when using it mixed with watercolor. I thought it was a medium you used first so you could paint watercolor on a surface other than watercolor paper…?
