I have played guitar for 5 years. I played banjo for a year or so when I was about 7 but the dexterity of my fingers just didn't manage it. I have been a civil war era history buff (over 500 books at home) all my life and want to get into banjo. I am gravitated towards a minstrel banjo but some are beyond my price range. I am just wondering if I should just get a modern open back first? But really love the warmth of a 1850s era banjo. Any suggestions? Would like to keep cost around $600 or less.
Michael, i come very late to the party, but how is the Hartel tuned. I also have one--actually three---of Jim's banjos, but i've yet to get a sound that nice. jim
Like that sound. Music recreated from the past thanks Michael. 👍
