the cricoid cartilage is around the windpipe or larynx, so it doesn't collapse when breathing. But if you're strangled hard enough to crush or dislocate that cartilage, it actually blocks the windpipe.

from my POV s1 epi1 was a successful bait of 'oh no~ Xiaoshi answered the message of her parents and Emma ends up dead'. which turned out to be correlation not causation: by now it's very obvious that she wasn't killed by a 'random stranger' but that Liu Min was targeting her due to her being involved in his embesselment scheme. We literally got an epi with 3 possible versions of her death: being strangeled by Liu Min, unaliving herself, being killed by being posessed. So her death is pretty much one of the nodes and Xiaoshi's message to her parents had nothing to do with the actual things that lead to her death: the embesselment & involvement with her boss.
LOL, I just want to point out that all the 弹幕 (similar to comments) on the Bilibili website for this show says 李导和陆光同生共死 meaning "Director Li and Lu Guang live and die together" so there's no way Lu Guang dies.

There’s a huge discrepancy between genders in china right now because of it. The craziest thing is that in the videos I watched about it, a lot of people seemed more concerned that their sons didn’t have any women to be their wives (killing baby girls = less women, who woulda thought) rather than the fact that so many babies lost their lives.

Both episodes were FIRE! The Second Season of Tsurune never had a "real" ED animation, they ended every episode with additional "episode" while playing the ED Song. LOVE how they did that.
