"Jebediah Morningside never does come back..." tvtropes notes this as a WHAM LINE and decades upon decades later, it still sends chills through me awesome delivery
I really kinda hate the Tall Man for doing this to poor Jeb. Jeb was only onscreen for like a few minutes, but he was such a wholesome character and it's so heartbreaking to see this horrible creature prancing around in his body.
It's unclear exactly what happened to Jebediah wether his body was taken over by another being ( The Tall Man) or if the Tall Man is in fact still Jebediah but somehow his mind got warped , who knows .
The fact that the tall man can be blown away and another just steps through the gate immediately with all of the memories of the destroyed one makes me think Jebediah was never the tall man. Rather, "the tall man" is just an ethereal being that makes copies of jeb to occupy and interact with our world.
The whole series is a paradox. Mike travel's through the Tall Mans Dimensional Fork, meets Jebediah Morningside in the past, and confirms having traveled through the gate. Emboldened by this knowledge, Jebediah decided to attempt his own journey through the Fork, becoming the Tall Man in the process. PS No one knows what Jebediah met on the other side, but whatever it was, it returned wearing his skin like a new suit.
@@cristobal2012 "And so it begins." Remember when the Tall Man walks through the gate at the end, having extracted the sphere from Mike's head? This is where he steps through into the past, ready to begin his dark task. I think this is the moment where he begins to harvest the dead at Morningside Cemetery/Mortuary. Kinda ties in to the moving photograph Mike saw in the antique shop in the first film, letting him know that the Tall Man has been around for a long time. Then you have Mike's weird Civil War dream earlier in this film, where TM is doing some horrible experiment on an ancestor/past version of Mike. Then you have TM strolling through a deserted Downtown LA and Jody tells Mike "not where, when." I think it all points to the fact that TM works entirely outside of linear time, but the chronological 'beginning' of his actions on this planet/dimension is the moment he passes through Morningside's slipgate.
Worse. Consider what happened to Mike. He's undead and has a gold sphere in his head. Jebediah went through the same process, only where Mike was able to retain his sanity and morality, Jebediah became twisted and evil.
Jedediah traveled to the red planet using the gateway and whatever lives on that planet killed him and took his skin then he used that gateway to help him travel to different worlds, he also fears cold because his planet his hot and on Earth he in slaves the dead to make his own army of the dead, it’s never explained why he wants Mike but my theory is he wants him because he’s able to share dreams with other people which makes us wonder was this entire franchise really just a dream?
I’m intrigued when the Tall Man says: “and so it begins...” what was he referring to? Did he always meet Mike in the past? Was he always waiting for him? They were always meant to meet. I haven’t watched part 5 yet, by the way.
I'll explain. Jebediah and Mike could not see or interact with each other, because Mike was in a different dimensional frequency. However when Jebediah emerged as the Tall Man, he gained an sense of awareness. The ability to see and possibly interact with other dimensions adjacent to his own. So naturally he could see Mike and as a result Mike inadvertently kickstarted their rivalry. As for whether or not Tall Man was waiting for him. He flat out says it in the first movie. *Tall Man:* I've been waiting for you.
It's not him. He came back after just 14 seconds, he bleeds yellow, he refers to his body as a "skinsack", he is stated to be weak to cold because "his" realm is hot, and he looks around like he never saw the room before. Something is wearing his skin.
Shanethefilmmaker - But the why find Mike it Reggie die when they went through the portal in the past movies, or in this one also? I do agree though that Jebediah was taken by an alien.
@@alanaspinall7147 That could be true. Considering Mike was able to still hold on to his own traits despite being changed the same way Tall Man is. However I don't think it's the case here. Where Mike was able to keep his human traits, Tall Man is a complete opposite of what that kindly undertaker was. Like everything Jebediah was, died. Since this thing seems to be the leader I would say that he only took the guy's form.
It’s never really explained. It’s all part of the surreal quality of the series. Many questions are sometimes intentionally left unanswered. And that’s why I’ve always loved these movies. They have a dreamlike quality. Weird and wonderful.
Jebidiah Morningside stepped into another dimension, another plane of existence, or maybe just an alternate timeline. What returned wasn't him. *Whatever he met on the other side returned wearing him like a new suit.*
@SgtBaker16 I enjoy the fact that nothing is explained. I love both the "Friday" and "Nightmare" series, but they have to come up with a new (and usually lame) way to resurect them every film. And Don isn't big on explanations intentionally. If you were to ask him a question, he'd probably turn it around and ask you what YOU thought it meant. He finds fan theories fascinating, and has used a few bits from fans over the run of the series.
@SgtBaker16 It's Phantasm. Aside from when Universal forced Don to be linear in the first sequel, any type of unexplained shit ranging from the Dream Reality ambiguity to small random stuff like Reggie suddenly having more ammo on his 4 barrel or new tires despite the old ones being popped, is part of the mind fuck. That being said, it's more or less implied that Jebediah Morningside is dead. That Tall man simply killed him and took his body as a form to assume upon going to this world. Hell Reggie's been killed twice that we know of up to this point and yet he's still kicking and trying to fight Tall Man.
@@FirstLast-cg2nk Maybe but even that isn't for sure . It might still be Jebediah , maybe the trip just warped him . Whatever powers he gained might have gone to his head . The Series did show that you can still sort of reason with the Tall Man sometimes .

If tallman were to have a video game, would he be voiced by either Christopher Lloyd or Christopher Lambert?
He'd be voiced by the great Christopher Lloyd - without a doubt!

@Shadow Imp Makes sense though.
Tall Man always struck me as some Eldritch type being.

Same here!

That's the knife that killed Tommy in the first movie
His actor passed away recently
@@oli19827Yeah he did !....you know we never got to hear Tommy jamming with Reggie and Jody on the porch...RIP 🙏🏼
Dislike because by 2017 recording off your TV screen with your phone is just lazy and the quality makes dog shit seem like a pleasant alternative.
I can explain that jebediah must have been kidnapped after going into dimensional fork and his form must have been taking from an alien

Yep, you realise 'the good game' between Mike and the Tall Man has been going on for way longer than the time since Phantasm 1
I think jebediah new powers absolutely corrupted him and that's why he become the tall man

Exactly.
Whatever met Jebediah on the other side came back wearing his skin like a new suit
I find him very attractive as ever~ wish I could meet him in person.
Do you want to cradle his balls?
So actually he goes into another parallel universe an evil tall man takes his place.
He died the moment he stepped through that gate. All that's left of him is a skinsack shell possessed by an entity beyond mortal understanding.
