The flies are attracted to the bait, the bait is in the shelter, the flies come into the shelter. Try moving the bait jar to an outside post and see if most of the flies follow.

    • @jamessmith599
      @jamessmith599 6 лет назад +19

Jane Shurley yes, I completely removed the smelly bait traps and at least 60 percent of the flies disappeared. I just use fly strips now. It’s futile but makes me feel better haha

The fly problem might be your feed. If it says bone meal, or something simular, it's ground bones. (Dead carcasses!) Cracked corn, maybe the feed store has something plainer, oregano in the water... gotta be something better!

Marigolds. These flowers are colorful additions to landscaping, but they have a distinctive smell that repels mosquitoes and other garden pests, including squash bugs and tomato worms. Marigolds contain a natural compound used in many insect repellents.

Marigold leaves have antiseptic properties. When we were young and cut ourselves while playing outdoors, we would crush some marigold leaves and apply it's juice on our wounds. Heals just like an antiseptic cream from the market.

I found your vlogs on RUclips, not long ago, and have become very fond of them. I love your family, your farm and your lifestyle and wish you all the best. I especially love the Emus. I live near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a, colder climate than yours, but I enjoy the seasons very much. Your farm is a wonderful place to rear a family. I look forward to watching you every week. Take care and bon chance mes ami.

I am so excited, because we will probably get peacocks now too! My mom LOVES peacocks! We did a lot of research, and it seems fairly easy to take care of them!

    Wow !
The flies are crazy this year here too. That fly trap seems to be working extremely well!
Would putting a couple ducks in with the turkeys work? Possibly would have had to raise them with the turkeys though. .....Hopefully the weather will turn soon.
So happy you got two peachicks!!

I’m so happy about the peachicks! I can’t wait to see more. Just a suggestion, if you can buy some corn tortillas, you can fry them in a pan with oil just to soften them and then fold in half and let them fry a little on each side. Soft, traditional taco.

Sometimes you just need to watch gameplay of a super realistic farming simulator game.
Btw where can I buy this game and do I need any console to use on it?

Lavender!!!!! I had a huge fly problem, we live by dairies but have no farm animals. But the flies were bad when you walked outside and would rush in when we opened the doors. I lit lavender candles and they started to go away. I'm going to start planting some around the front door. It helps keep them away. The fly traps seemed to make it worse. I wish you the best of luck and I'm looking forward to starting my farm with my family soon. I'm still saving up. 12 hour days 6 days a week working in farms. It's about time I have my own now

Hi, I watched something on RUclips the other evening regarding fly deterrent.... It was a bag of water with 'pennies' in suspended in the sunshine. The light sends out a kaleidoscope of colours and keeps the flies away. Apparently its quite popular in the USA? Anyhow, thought it was worth a mention. From Sharron in Nottingham, England

What do you use in your current traps?

saboltom 28 do you want chickens for pets, for laying eggs, or for both. And depending on where you live, you might want to get chickens that can be out in the snow. Or can be out in the warm heat.

    • @dianad.5312

Very true. Spay / neuter decreases the risk of cancer in both cats and dogs, in addition to decreasing the surplus pet population.
