It's interesting to see how different ferries work. In the Seattle area, both ends of the ferry are the front, so the ferries and cars don't have to turn around. You drive forward to get on, the boat crosses, then you drive forward to get off and the ferry is ready to go the other way back.
Not only are these vlogs entertaining, but they are also an inspiration to a new vlogger on the scene. This is how vlogs should be filmed. Great work (again) guys.
Wellington is my hometown! I love seeing in on other peoples vlogs from around the world. It is one of thee most beautiful cities in the world :-) loved the vlog guys!
We RV'ed around New Zealand for two months 3,5 years ago. Watching these vlogs brings me back to my favorite country in the whole wide world. So entertaining! You two seem so genuine, I love it :)
New Zealand has been on my bucket list for years, and this video just made it even more so! As far as car ferries go...when my husband and I were traveling the world for work (living in places for 3-6 months at a time), our last port of call was Alaska. We drove our car up there from Tennessee, but when it was time to come home, we decided to take the car ferries from Alaska to the lower-48. The entire trip took us 10 days (with a two day stop in Juneau where we changed ferries). It was amazing, and quite the change from all of our flights to just get in our car once we arrived in Washington state and drive straight off the ferry and get right on the interstate!
Mine too! I laughed so hard at “Do you need me to punch you in the face?” So funny because Kara is so sweet and easy going. She even said it sweetly. 🤣🤣🤣
First time commenting: Sometimes when I’m watching your videos, I just start talking to you guys like I’m there. 😂 I found your channel not too long ago and it’s awesome. I am loving learning about all these places that I hope to travel one day. And how to get there inexpensively. I also just signed up for Kara’s video editing course. I’ll let you know how it goes. This is a little late because it’s a different video, but that seal that was scratching himself and yawning. OMG cutest thing ever! Oh, and I greatly appreciate your love for a good coffee and good ice cream! ☕️🍦🍨
Being a newish subscriber I am loving going through all your old vlogs! It's great that that you got to see Kaikoura and Wellington before the earthquake that happened later on in 2016.
I found you guys while scrolling through Facebook videos. I've started from the beginning. It's so exciting to see New Zealand. When I worked at The Banff Springs hotel, I became very good friends with someone from Wellington NZ. Love your videos.
Cute that you found that 'rough'. That's the calmest I've ever seen the Cook Straight! We crossed in 6m swells 😳 we were advised not to walk around the ship as it was hard to walk anyway and many people were sitting/laying on the ground. They don't usually cross now when the swells exceed 6m for safety/insurance reasons!
Hi! I was recently in NZ and went back to rewatch your NZ playlist. You should seriously think about going back to NZ and spend more time there. You barely scratched the highlights, especially on the South Island, and there are really some fantastic places to stay and experiences that you would love. I don't think you'd be disappointed!
Its so crazy to me you've never been on a drive on ferry. In Seattle we use them all the time. I grew up doing this:) Guess you'll have to make a trip to Seattle:) -Ash
WΔY ΔWΔY - The Way Away, travel and lifestyle Yup. BC too. Ferries are so common here like in Washington that we sort of take them for granted I guess.
I live near Islands so I have driven on a ferry. I imagine if you don't "ferry" a lot you wouldn't know... I have noticed some things they have been impressed by are strange so I'm thinking even though they are well traveled its their age😉
@@graciepuppy7368 I live 100 kms (65 miles ) east of Vancouver BC actually. That is why I mentioned BC ferries. Seattle is only about a 2.5 hour drive south though, and we were there a couple of weeks ago for the Huskies football game when they beat Oregon State.
Hey, tip if either of you get motion sick often (car, bus, plane, boat, etc) instead of Dramamine, you can get a prescription for motion sickness patches. They stick behind your ear, are good for 3 days and can be worn in the water.
Nate, I know this is very late, but for the future. When you are sea sick, you want to be outside near the bow (front) of the boat/ship looking at the horizon. Hope this help you & others in the future. I’ve been boating for over 45 years!! Love, love, love you videos!! Hi Kara ❤️😊!
My wife & I did an almost identical tour of NZ in 2005 but by car & staying in motels, which was really good! By the way Kara, bees don't bite but they do sting!
LOVED watching this video. Like you, our life has changed due to COVID. Normally each year around this time we'd be on that ferry so we could visit schools around the South Island. Not this year 😔 It's hard accepting that things are different but grateful NZ has handled things well so far.
I really wish I had heard of you guys earlier. I would have recommended DOC camps especially with this type of camper they are dirt cheap sometimes with just honesty boxes and they have the best views in New Zealand.
ok, I'm more than two years late, but i just discovered your videos. If you driving a car on a ferry is already fascinating for you (well, one of you...) you might want to think about taking a train from Hamburg/Germany to Copenhagen/Denmark, or the other way round. The whole TRAIN boards the ferry, it's quite amazing. Plus both cities are really great places to visit.
Nate being like trying not to get sick. Me on boxing day 2020 on that ferry the waves were the size of the boat. you guys got a nice sailing. not me rewatching this in 2021
The one time I went on a trip was to the East of Canada. My girlfriend at the time and buddy went to P.E.I. We caught the last ferry, last car. I loved the ferry. Was first time being on a boat. Then we made it to the beer store but it was closed but the people were still inside and opened for us anyways. Then we made it to the campsite but it was closed. Luckily the person happened to show up to the office and we got to camp right by the ocean. My only real trip and was awesome it all worked out.
Lol...wasn't sure ya would make it thru that ferry ride without tossing Tim tams Nate :0) this was a fun little vlog :0) good travel day :0) BIG HUGS FROM IDAHO...P.S. that was the biggest bee I've seen..."he's going come back for me..."...LOL
Wow! I live in Marlborough just before Picton...hoping you enjoyed our part of the world...lol...what a shame you didn't stay in our Marlborough Sounds....maybe next time.....Blessings from NZ )(
Funny story when we went on this ferry...we were the last to get on so while waiting I decided to charge my phone but we ended up being the last to get off because the car had died... Also I get seasick easily too so I found the warmest area of the top deck to stay outside and I was fine. I would rather be cold than sick
Just found these. Nate, if you read new comments on old videos, going below is the worst thing you can do about being sea sick. You need to stay on deck so that your eye can watch the horizon. This way your vision also captures the wave movement. - advice from an old sailor.
No ferry experience to speak of? May I suggest that, when you finish this odyssey, you take the ferry in eastern Canada from Nova Scotia to the island of Newfoundland, as well as the Alaska State Ferry? There's also a nice one I've not yet taken, but it's on my bucket list, from Chelan (shuh-LANN), WA, down the length of Lake Chelan to the back entrance of North Cascades National Park.
I so want to go to Nz. Even to live there. It is exotic but at the same time a lot of familiaritues with Norway both south island nature and people. Sigh
you messed up! you put the honey on the bread first. it soaks in, so you don't have spills, and it kinda stiffens the bread, making it easier to spread crunchy PB.

I'm late to the game but am enjoying going back to the beginning. Your eating habits have definitely improved 😊
You guys are too adorable. I thought I wouldn't enjoy watching vlogs about my own country but you put a new spin on it for me 💖
You'll remember that strait crossing when the weather really get's going. When Mother Nature decides to make things interesting.
Still binge watching. I’m obsessed with these vlogs!! Love y’all!!

Haha the bee part was definitely my favourite clip from this vlog. Love it!

I lived on Vancouver Island for a few years & drove onto a BC Ferry many times, also the inside passage up the coast of BC is wonderful.

Kara running after the van was so cute
Yes! I giggled and giggled at that.
For seasickness, try taking ginger capsules or chewing candied ginger. Love this video.
the ferry ride looks a lot like from Vancouver to Vancouver Island in Canada. thanks for sharing, Happy traveling and safe journey.
+slee0687 you're really making us want to visit Canada!
+Kara and Nate yes you must come to visit Canada one day, plus it's so much closer.
slee0687 Agreed!! I’m sure they’d love it here! And you are totally right, it reminds me of the ferry to Vancouver Island!
Oh, thanks for giving Sweet Baby G a tagline to use... "Do you need me to punch you in the face??" Too funny!
+Bob Nease tell Gina I said you're welcome 😊
She went a whole 10 hours before using it today... maybe there's hope for me?!?
Another great installment - - thanks for sharing !!

"do you need me to punch you in the face?" great quote! 🤣
very proud to say i have been on a bluebridge boat from picton to wellington but it took a 5 hour drive to picton as I'm in Christchurch lol
I like the background music in this one !
Sweet little video guys. Looking forward to putting my working holiday visa to use. I set off in a week! Cheers, wherever you are now :)
+Anthony Perez thanks! It will be awesome to have some time to really get to know the country!
"Do you need me to punch you in the face?" 😂🤣😂 Sooo gonna use that on my hubby.
I’m watching this while you are van lifing it around the US...your first try at van life!

There’s a ferry crossing from FL across Mobile Bay to Dauphin Island, MS. Well there used to be. It’s been many years since I was there.
Hey great shots!!
Looking forward to see more :)
Better than sleeping Nate... Nope Kara, you're driving beside oriental bay, unless the wicked van became a boat.🤣
Great as usual

The Wicked van 🤣 I can't stop laughing at it.
Watching this in 2024, and snorting at the fact you were able to get a ferry ticket the day of… would not happen now!
Love peanut butter and banana. Always sliced my bananas length wise. Will try your additions. Sounds tasty.
G’day guys, Kara and Nate that was a very well done video you did....hope you had fun in kiwi land.....you must try Australia.

how do you not put peanut butter on both sides of bread?
Right! Especially since the banana covers one side
I enjoyed that.! Thank you.:)
Wellington is a nice city. Was there in 2018
Same like the ferries in Seattle and Cape May NJ
+Bikram Das being from TN we don't have the chance to ride a lot of ferries. We weren't sure what to expect!

That sandwich though... lol I don’t know how can you eat that. I think peanut butter in US is as popular as Vegemite in Australia. ;)
Kara, Bumble Bees are harmless. They'd rather die before stinging you. Sweet little creatures. It's the yellow jackets that you should worry about.
great videos
The sandwich!!! All you had to do was deep fry it and you were just like Elvis
Looked forward to your drive thru my hometown, Blenheim. But no. Didn't show it. Oh well, still a good video😀
