      As an EVE player, I think he's done a commendable job. He hasn't always gotten it right, as he said, but he's been able to be humble enough to admit when he's made mistakes and that's a large reason why the game is still around 20 years after it's initial launch.

    They still have not dealt with racism in eve, not only do they avoid dealing with it, but those who complain about racism receive a ban. You think they just ban over rule breaking but they also ban if they don't want you around, they will refund your money and send you on your way because you are critical of the racism in eve.

    People would be well advised taking all of what Hilmar says with a grain of salt. Most of the freedom of choice, that existed in the past, has been curtailed one way or another. In the last ten years, EVE ONLINE has been moving closer and closer to a themepark, guiding players through content. CCP used to attract people who could create their own game, but eventually changed their target audience more towards the mainstream people, who need to be guided through content, or at least pointed at it. It is, today, a far cry from what it has been. The people who like it today wouldn't have liked it ten years ago. It is a lot easier and a lot less challenging. That's great for the masses, who need success and ease, but not so great for all of those people who liked it exactly because it was actually a cold, harsh, unforgiving game.

      @aggi999 Год назад +5

      Started 10 years ago, still love it, in some aspects it's a lot harsher today than back then. Back then we had niarja, hisec had more mineral variety as well as hedbergite and other nullsec ore in ore anomalies. Ice was around in more abundance, boosting was overpowered, amarr - jita was 13 jumps, not 45. No trigs, no sleepers, no lancers, no overskilled newbies, no injectors (which do make the game harder, more competitive) and other things

      They are conducting an experiment outside EVE Online but inside the EVE universe which I think is the wise move.
      CCP has a history of previous failed misadventures in this way. Dust 514 had potential.
      Players in EVE have healthy skepticism in this regard. That being said there is a part of me that wants this to be successful and sustainable.

    • @fergus247
      @fergus247 Год назад +1

      The irony is that the players are always lower than the year before so their strategy of changing the target audience doesent even work. By the way this mainstream audience/gamer that needs to be guided through content literally does not exist. Minecraft is the biggest proof, its the most popular game of all time, and it had no tutorial or even recipe list. When you start the game it just puts you in the world and you have to figure everything out yourself. How can a game like that become the most succesful game in history when "the mainstream audience needs to be guided through content" its just an excuse CCP uses for their incompetence. They would rather make up this fictitious playerbase that is daft and lazy, and change the game to accomidate it, than admit that CCP game devs are just plain incompetent.

      Here’s EVE’s biggest problem:
      1. They draw you in with these truly great stories of intrigue. They tell you that the players can create their own world.
      2. But then the only tools or physics they give the players are largely ones that will encourage CONFLICT and heartbreak.
      If they were really interested in the sandbox they claim. Someone would have been able to create effective in-game police, law enforcement, military, contracts, schools, universities, other parts of society.
      But they mostly only build tools that encourage PvP. It’s a society that will always be stuck in adolescence, because empathy-light arrogant jerks. CEO is probably a sociopath, so he can’t see it, or worse likes endless fighting.
      It’s not about a real economy. It’s about an economy that provides way more tools for conflict over cooperation.

    Good interview but it looks a little uncomfortable for Hilmar to have to keep looking back and forth from left to right to make eye contact with the interviewers. Maybe it would be better to have the interviewee in the chair and the interviewers both sitting in a position where the interviewee isn't swiveling their entire head 180 degrees back and forth to make eye contact.

    This sounds awful. How can you look at this game for 20 years and think it would play out this way. People make friendships in this game because it requires coordination and can have fun together. If it's about making money your just another employee working without any of the rights that exist in the real world.

But CCP did not even grow 1% because he is absolutely incompetent. And now he has fallen for the vultures at a16z because he is desperate for money. jesus christ
