In some African societies they could actually negotiate a fine with the woman's family and get away with the crime. It also puts the woman on the defensive. She ends up defending herself instead of protesting a crime. If she is late her family wants to end the case quickly in order to end the embarrassment.

I lived in London for most of my life but I am now living in Ghana, when I came to Ghana in 2021 I employed a young man to work for me, he was a very poor boy so I felt sorry for him I gave him money and other things, but he stole my money and then called me that he was in love with me and that he wanted to marry me, I was so insulted, first of all I was old enough to be his mother, he was my worker and we were not in the same class, I knew that he wanted to marry me for financial reasons. That stuff happened to my cousin right here in America. She was desperate to get married, 60 years old and she met a Young African man, and he stole her social security, identity, had his other wife she didn't know about use my cousin's identity to get apartments, open businesses in her name, get credit cards. His wife even opened LinkedIn accounts under my cousin's name. She got divorced from him and now he stalks her.
Some of this young ones are really desperate for quick money. I am a foreigner in Ghana who almost lost her life too. One of my workers brought his wife's friend that has no home and employed her to kill me. The day I got poisoned by the lady, I knew something was wrong with me so I call out a cab and sneak out of my own house to a hospital. The following day the worker came to the house the first thing he went for was my car , telling anyone who cared to listen that I was the Aunty, and my houses and other properties will be his. By the grace of God I am alive. By the way their nickname is " kunumany" didn't know what it means until God saves me from their hands. One needs to be very careful and have God on one side. People are really desperate.
