Maam i have an important question. Krishna says in the third chapter that a Jnani too functions according to his likes and dislikes. This is such a dangerous statement Maam. I thought a person became enlightened when he gave up his fancies (sarvan kaaman mano gataan) yet Krishna is saying here that even a Jnani.... Does he mean a person of scriptural knowledge when he says Jnani or does he mean an enlightened being in Chapter 3 Verse 33/34?
Both are acceptable interpretations. The verses says prakritehe meaning by his nature. The person of scriptural knowledge may continue for a while on his likes and dislikes until his knowledge converts to wisdom i.e. he can finally do what he has learnt. The person of realisation also works on his nature. Prarabdha vasanas continue after Realisation.
Jankiji's side audio quality was not good. She speaks well but it was not audible!! Swami sarvapriyananda was as usual excellent. I'm sure he must have also noticed audio deficiency at jankiji's side but being a gentleman and true awaitan took everything in stride without raising an eyebrow. Otherwise in all his speeches and videos he always makes sure that audio quality is good.
Ma'am , going for something higher is in itself desire , again the movement of the same desire though modified . Isn't that the mind modifies the same desire and sustain it further ? It is continuance of the same thing. The agitation remains , the goal changes and the form in which mind escapes in order to survive its very core which lies in the sustainability of desires . Please do explain . Thank you .
Yes, you are right. It is a desire. But a higher desire gets rid of lower desires. So in toto one has fewer number of desires. Then we gradually raise the ideal even further thereby getting rid of more desires. That's the way to reduction of desires. Merely repressing desire won't achieve that.
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, it's always a fine line between over simplification and making it practical or relatable. It is possible that one may occasionally overstep the line.
If desire is the cause of pain, then why even desire to live, simply die! As long as there is a desire to live, there would be desires to live a better life and that better life is possible only with good inflow of money and to earn money, one has to go through the process of education which helps in getting a decent employment. There is no end to it unless one fine day you perish. The loop continues.
Yes, what you say is true. The loop continues, till Self Realisation. Yet, the fact remains that desire is the cause of pain. It's not a made up relationship that we can comment, 'why say it'. It's the truth which you can verify with your own experiences. Every time you have been agitated, has it not been because of desire? If the desire to live is questionable, so is the desire to die! The correct technique is to do what needs to be done rather than emphasise desire.
Not to become goody goody, I am not at all convinced by Janaki ji. Can desire fulfill desire ever ? Does slightest earthly attachment make one spritual? Sex and salvation can go together?
No, desire cannot fulfill desire. But a higher desire fulfills a lower one i.e. when one gains a higher desire, the lower drops off. Like when one develops a taste for higher literature, children 's books fall off. Yes, attachment to worldly matters and spirituality don't go together. However, it is never 0 or 100 %. All of us are somewhat attached and we need to keep gradually decreasing it. There is no opposition per se between sex and salvation. It is the attachment and the craving which is the issue.
Never heard of Dr. Janki Santoke before, but I am very happy to have stumbled across her presentation today!

When we desire a mango and I don't share it that is selfessness but will I face karma.
Karma means action. And all actions have consequences
I couldnt relate to Jankijis presentation of Vedantic learnings; the anecdotes included. I also struggle when speakers over simplify a concept.
