Going to a salon- I explicit told them my hair was not in the best condition and had BLACK BOX DYE on my hair. The stylist convinced me that she could lighten it to start my journey back to my natural level 6/7 blond. 45 minutes later, I’m watching my hair melt off my head into the shampoo bowl and the top layer on the right side is snapped three inches from my scalp. Going from almost waist length hair to basically a pixie cut is devastating. I now have trust issues and I do my own hair. Enrolling for cosmetology school next month.
OMG. I can so fucking relate. I had black hair for a long while and decided to have it bleached gradually by a senior hair colourist. I went twice, first time she gave me a bleach bath and was fine but second time round she put the bleach without any kind of dilution, she left some on a patch of hair for too long and a good chunk of my hair fell off, and my hair in that spot remained at 4 inches long. It's been over a year now and it's finally reached past my ear. Absolutely horrid experience, I don't trust anyone either.
I love when you explain why whatever they did didn't work (such as: color won't lighten color, olapex cuts your developer in half, etc...) I think education about the chemistry behind color will help prevent mistakes like this. I know that I have just the most basic hair color and bleach knowledge...enough to know that I will definitely be going to a salon haha.

When I was 20 I went to a nice salon-six hours later left with banana yellow hair. Went home an my room mate and I researched for hours how to fix it - mind you Google wasn’t what it is today and neither was RUclips. Now I don’t let anyone in a salon touch my hair color or my curls. At 31 I have healthy hair, good color and I’m the person my girlfriends come to when their stylists fuck their hair up.
Well tbh.. Hair dressers hair dye also has ammonia so I don't see why he's hating so much on it. Ammonia is what you need to make the dye basic and let it oxidise with the hydrogen peroxide

So I had to go bleach my hair on my own then go back and get it done after I showed them it could go blonde. I totally see why people do at home hair dye.
I think sometimes they say that just so if it doesn't lift to blonde, they don't have to leave your hair at a red or light brown that you might hate more than your original colour. Some girls can't lift. I have a friend who is naturally level 1/1.5 and she can't go blonde, even after 2 sessions she was red and it wouldn't go lighter.
Same. I went in several to ask prices for blonde and most said they wouldn’t be able to do it, and then a couple of them told me that I’d have to make 5 appointments. The cost would be the same each time. So that’s like $120 x 5, so $600, not including tips. And then you’d have to go back every 6 weeks for touch ups. If you have that kind of money, by all means... but that’s unrealistic for most.
It also depends on your hair, my hair is naturally dark brown and can go to a lvl 8 or 9 in one sitting without completely dying off, but my husbands' hair can barely lift 2 lvls before getting completely destroyed. You never know until you try, and as a hair stylist I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also, I've seen a girl go blonde from a brown box dye after we told her we could only do the highlights thing and have complete chunks of her hair fall out. She came straight to the beauty school in TEARS and super uneven and splotchy, gummy hair. Nightmare fuel.
Nicki Sue Moen She probably has very thick hair. My hair is medium brown and very fine. I went blonde at home with just L'Oréal Sunny Gel , You just apply it once a week on clean hair and go to bed , no washing out. It lightens gradually , effect is not instant. So , I never used any bleach or box dye , or anything else. There are benefits to having fine hair - it colours very easily.
Some things are better left to the pros. Thanks to these videos, I'm only sticking with professional hair stylists for all of my hair coloring needs. Thank you Brad.
I am so impressed with how much she lifted- black box dye is the worst to lift out and she got a fairly consistent result with a few patches of doom and her hair doesn't look too fried.
I was thinking the same thing, with all the products she bought and money she must have spent why not just pay a bit more and get it done and know it will come out right? lol
Lemonpomtart 100% agree. An Olaplex set is at least $80. Why pay $150 to DIY when $200 will get you a good stylist in most places? I love a good DIY, but damn
Lemonpomtart It really depends on where you live whether or not it would actually be "a bit more". Where I live labour is very expensive due to our wages being decent. To get your hair lightened from black box dye to blond would take like 3 sittings at around 500 each (anf thats at a fairly average salon) whereas these products would cost about 300 in total. Thats a difference of around 1000, not just a bit. I always think its a better idea to go to the salon, especially given how nervous this girl was, but i doubt the cost difference would be small
Where I live, I went to a salon, bleached my hair, colored it another color, cut it, blow dried and flat ironed it, and it cost me $150. True, I was a regular in that salon at the time, so I'm sure I got a secret bargain, but still..... My hair is also very dark.
And if it doesn't come out right you can at least blame somebody else and demand that they pay somebody else to fix it. (I don't know if it works like this in America.)
Sometimes you just need a change. I normally do reds and blacks, but for whatever reason a few weeks ago I decided to do a blue silver. I want sure it would look good because it was way different than what I've ever done before. Just because you know you look good in one color it shouldn't stop you from trying new colors :) it's just hair, it grows back, you might as well step outside your comfort zone and fuck your hair up every once in a while lol
Of all the fails we've watched together Brad, this one takes the cake. I could feel her nervousness throughout the whole video and it was so stressful knowing that her stressing was completely valid by the end result!
The thought of you looking at my Instagram page, spotting my hair and scrolling just saying "oh no honey, no no, oh no" is giving me LIFE haha just followed you Julia.plus.4 :) xx
I literally love how sympathetic you are in your videos! Like I never really see you truly criticize the people you're watching, you honestly just feel really bad for them. I had my hair messed up pretty bad by a *professional* that I actually trusted, but the bleach was so brassy and uneven and the color she put in washed right out. I had to box dye it black because I'd spent all my money on the "dye job." Anyway I just wanted to say that you're like my dream hair dresser because you actually understand that when clients trust you with their hair, they're putting themselves in a really vulnerable position! You care so much about what you do and I honestly felt violated when my hair was messed up so much, and I feel like you're so sensitive to your clients' needs and passionate about what you do. Keep doin' you man
I have a connection with you every single video because your facial expressions are my facial expressions. So when you physically and verbally cringe, just know we’re in sink every time soul sister ❤️😂
@@marleycurtis794 a salon would actually do it right, and you wouldnt damage your hair, and it would probably cost less, and you wouldnt be doing the work. Just go to a school or something. I got my whole head done fashion colors for 50 bucks
@@marleycurtis794 you do you, you can check it out on my insta @gabbybrown5915 She wont charge that when shes out of school, but a student will always do way better than some random girl at home and arguing against that is insanity
marley curtis Ultimately, the price is determined by what’s being done, the amount of time and work put in, and the amount of resources needed to do the task. For instance, a full head of demi-permanent hair dye is cheaper than a bleached ombré or doing damage control on people who have previously jacked up their own hair.
I have always dyed my own hair, I don't think I would ever go to a salon to dye my hair, bc at the end of the day I can just blame myself and not someone else ruining my hair for more money than I would spend dying it my own! Also practice makes perfect and hair grows back :)
With how much she bought, she would've saved money and gotten a better result going to a professional. I only dye my hair when I want a little pop from underneath.
Oh Brad. Your eyes are like two stained glass fanlights in an edwardian English home. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about, I live in one. Will you ever do a video about vintage hairstyling? I'd love to see that. I'm currently cultivating a 50s do. Glorious love love love from England 😍 Annie
She did pretty good! Honestly with the amount of stuff she had to do, ( I KNOW her arms were hurting!) It didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. On a side note Brad, did you ever watch Shear Genius or Tabitha salon takeover? I think you'd really like both, If you hadn't seen them. Shear Genius is a reality competition type show with hairdressing challenges, and Salon Takeover is a just like a Gordon Ramsey esque premise where salons get kicked back into shape. You should check them out!
I've bleached and dyed my hair at both a salon and at home. tbh when I do it myself it doesn't look much different and that way I can get exactly what I want because recently I went to the hairdresser where they did my hair completely different to how I wanted it. plus I kinda love the "effort" of dying my own hair, I find it really fun and allows my creative side to take the wheel. much more interesting than sitting in a salon for hours tbh.
Olaplex if you don’t over add to lightener won’t change the volume. If you over add it will cut 30vol to 20vol. I’m trained in Olaplex. They came out with new mixing measurements last year so you don’t need to bump the developer. 😊 only bump up in open air processing lightener.
Good to know! I did read about using too much and it affecting the processing. What do you mean bump up in the lightener? For example, instead of using one that lifts up to 3-4 levels, get one that lifts up to 7?
saralynn518 just mean you don’t need to used 20 instead of 10vol. Id say doing it at home is still not smart. Lightening hair should be left to a pro. And they can advise what best. Why we are trained and not all stylist train equally.
I love these bleaching fail reaction vids! You are honest but polite at the same time, which is really nice :) But why people are bleaching their hair by themselves even tough they've failed it before! Like for me, it took only 2 failed diy hair coloring attempts (one to brown and one red) to just pay to get it professionally done and coloring hair is safer than bleaching!
I need you to train my mom, she went to a cosmetic school back in the 90s in the Dominican Republic so her skills aren’t up to date and she can’t do a blue dye of her life depended on it
Ive just recently started watching your videos and i have been on a binge now. Your attitude and personality gives me such a confidence boost. You are always so positive and complimenting everyone. Keep doing what you do!!! P.s. you slay
I keep watching these videos whole day. I am having 3 psychology exams this week. Tbh I am learning a lot about human nature from these. I will learn how to comfort future clients coming to see me after frying their hair :) love your videos
Also, Olaplex changed their instructions to use less product, so it WILL NOT dilute the developer. And yes Brad, it only cuts it down one developer level. So it will be a 22....vol If she uses the amount you used to use.
TheHarlequin801 I saw that Olaplex changed their instructions but I tried it and felt it did still dilute it and did not have the lifting power I wanted.
I’m not a stylist but I’ve been cutting/bleaching/colouring my own hair at home for yearrrrssss and I feel like so many of these bleaching fails are avoidable by doing some FREAKING RESEARCH like god damn we all have super computers in our pockets. I agree with Brad if you’re willing to spend THAT much money on products to do it at home, why not just go to a salon and be treated like a princess and get a good result? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

She definitely has the cutest hair coloring gloves I've ever seen lol
Some things are better left to the pros. Thanks to these videos, I'm only sticking with professional hair stylists for all of my hair coloring needs. Thank you Brad.
I am so impressed with how much she lifted- black box dye is the worst to lift out and she got a fairly consistent result with a few patches of doom and her hair doesn't look too fried.
I can NOT deal with slow talkers so this video was really hard for me to watch lol
Lily Burke you can speed the video up
I felt like she had a bad attitude but after your comment I realized it is just the slow talking.
ughhh same
So you have to watch james Charles
Same. Honestly would rather watch JoJo Siwa, and that's saying something.
I only pay 60-80 for mine to color it, from black to red
And if it doesn't come out right you can at least blame somebody else and demand that they pay somebody else to fix it. (I don't know if it works like this in America.)
I don’t know if this has been requested lol but can you do a video on actual hair stylist fails? I love watching those 😂
She looks Good in dark hair!! Why go blonde!?
Frida Kovacs sometimes people just want a new look
@A n n i s e why, what's your eye colour?
Krystina Bell YOU’RE SUCH A MOOD 🤣😭
if you look at yourself too long then you get bored of yourself and see yourself as uglier than you actually are lmao
I've just woke up (from UK) and this is the first thing I do... Watch your videos! Haha Love 💖
Anna Long exactly the same but from France haha
Me 2 just from Denmark
Helena Schjøtz amazing! all of the world loves Brad 😂
Same here in France 🇫🇷😁
I love this ‘newsies’ look you have going on 😍
Em B Same! It's so extra....extra, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!
I had to. 💗
he looks like he could potentially be a delancey? as awful as i hate t' say, y'know!
I honestly appreciate how in these videos, you're cringing so hard but are still respectful of these people. Love this!
Can you do Bleach wins on RUclips, I know someone has to have done it right.Brads reactions are always fun to watch, good or bad:)
Sha'Ron Guillory but those arent fun to react to ):
codycarsonxx Lol true.Something about the way Brad reacts,he just can't do wrong.
Who needs beauty school when you can just watch Brads videos lol LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos!!!
Jorden Roy I know right!? He tells us to go to a salon but teaches us what not to do when we do it ourselves. lol
am I the only one thats binge watching all of brads videos during quarantine
I love his reactions and how he always points out what the person did right and compliments them rather than bashing them bc he's a hairdresser 😅❤👌
MY DAD IS ALMOST AT A MILLION I'M CRYING TEARS OF JOY
3 years later... he’d always been extra but he just amplified it throughout the years haha. He is always amazing ❤️
I’m seriously in love with your eyes! Their so bright blue!
I neeeed you to react to people trying to cut their own bangs 👏I👏will👏live👏for👏it👏
Omg yeees, cutting bangs is so hard and you fluff it up almost every time 😂
He totally seems like someone I’d like to have as a friend... he gives off such bright and happy genuine vibes, I like that!
I LOVED the color after she used the pravana color lift. It was freaking gorgeous. I LOOOOOOOVE pravana
i loved her hair after the first bleach when it was a dark reddish colour...she should've kept that
krystal, ikrrrrr
right!! she should've just stopped. she looked so good w it like that
Me: *gets ideas about bleaching own hair at home*
Him: Don't do this at home I know you're getting ideas
It would be so cool if you gave people who diy their hair and fail miserably a makeover 😍
Not going to lie i was getting ideas lol i was thinking maybe i can go blonde at home lol but I’m not doing it too much work lol
PrettyLilMzGrace you look great now! If you are going to do it go to a professional please
PrettyLilMzGrace How many lols can you put in one comment?
PrettyLilMzGrace and the risk of overlapping is too much.
Lol
Is this me? Lol. That sounds like something I say
Brad looks cute with his little hat and perfect blond swoop.
StayBeautiful1031 ... *in sync ... seriously ... bye Felicia.
The only thing that I could think about, is that you are dressed like a train conductor. ❤️😂
Aerial Haywood I noticed that! 😂
Aerial Haywood all abooooarddd
If youre this stressed... why not just go to a salon? Like, olaplex is expensive? Are you really saving money?
Gabs Brown olaplex is expensive but not as expensive as going to a salon??🤣🤣
@@marleycurtis794 a salon would actually do it right, and you wouldnt damage your hair, and it would probably cost less, and you wouldnt be doing the work. Just go to a school or something. I got my whole head done fashion colors for 50 bucks
Gabs Brown well, the last time i got my hair done it was $500 ..🥴 i dont think id ever trust someone to be doing my hair if its only $50
@@marleycurtis794 you do you, you can check it out on my insta @gabbybrown5915
She wont charge that when shes out of school, but a student will always do way better than some random girl at home and arguing against that is insanity
marley curtis Ultimately, the price is determined by what’s being done, the amount of time and work put in, and the amount of resources needed to do the task. For instance, a full head of demi-permanent hair dye is cheaper than a bleached ombré or doing damage control on people who have previously jacked up their own hair.
That hat is giving me 2004 vibes and I’m LIVING for it
“I don’t think she should go blonde”.. am I the only person that was SHOOK hearing this come from him?
I have always dyed my own hair, I don't think I would ever go to a salon to dye my hair, bc at the end of the day I can just blame myself and not someone else ruining my hair for more money than I would spend dying it my own! Also practice makes perfect and hair grows back :)
@AceOfSpades Lena and it's always hard to display a certain idea to some hairdressers too, I always know what I want!
With how much she bought, she would've saved money and gotten a better result going to a professional. I only dye my hair when I want a little pop from underneath.
I'm getting my hair dyed by a friend :D
Some Simmer Girl I always dye my hair ...BUT I get it bleached once !! At the salon
I went to hairdresser once and it was to cut my hair hella short because I didn’t want to mess that up but otherways I color and cut my own hair
Her hair was pretty after stripping it and then it failed she should have stopped after stripping it
I've bleached and dyed my hair at both a salon and at home. tbh when I do it myself it doesn't look much different and that way I can get exactly what I want because recently I went to the hairdresser where they did my hair completely different to how I wanted it. plus I kinda love the "effort" of dying my own hair, I find it really fun and allows my creative side to take the wheel. much more interesting than sitting in a salon for hours tbh.
3 years ago he has 723k subs on YT, now he has almost 10 TIMES that, about to hit 7 million! Talk about some growth honey!
her hair was the color of your hat when she first bleached it 😂😂
"I know you are getting ideas" Since when you read minds? LOL I love you my beautiful Babe!!!
Brad , you always say positive compliance . So sweet
i'm watching this video and my boyfriend asked if i'm watching Brad, lol, i love how he knows about Brad.
Daaaamn you look so good in this vid Brad 😍
Nicole JB91 when doesn’t he look good!
brad, make “go to a salon” your next merch saying! haha
I love these bleaching fail reaction vids! You are honest but polite at the same time, which is really nice :)
But why people are bleaching their hair by themselves even tough they've failed it before! Like for me, it took only 2 failed diy hair coloring attempts (one to brown and one red) to just pay to get it professionally done and coloring hair is safer than bleaching!
She looked very nice with black hair 😐
Silvana Kovacevic definitely agree with this! The black looks amazing in her!
So crazy that when he filmed this he only had 700k followers now he has over 6 million, congrats brad 💕💕
With everything this chick bought, she could have gone to a salon 😭
I need you to train my mom, she went to a cosmetic school back in the 90s in the Dominican Republic so her skills aren’t up to date and she can’t do a blue dye of her life depended on it
I love his reaction videos. He says what they did wrong, what they did well with, and tips to do better.
Ive just recently started watching your videos and i have been on a binge now. Your attitude and personality gives me such a confidence boost. You are always so positive and complimenting everyone. Keep doing what you do!!! P.s. you slay
I never want these reaction videos to stop but GO TO A SALON 👏🏻
I keep watching these videos whole day. I am having 3 psychology exams this week. Tbh I am learning a lot about human nature from these. I will learn how to comfort future clients coming to see me after frying their hair :) love your videos
Omg you look so cute with the hat and your hair down like this 😍
Also, Olaplex changed their instructions to use less product, so it WILL NOT dilute the developer. And yes Brad, it only cuts it down one developer level. So it will be a 22....vol If she uses the amount you used to use.
TheHarlequin801 yea I was gonna comment this but then I saw this so
TheHarlequin801 I saw that Olaplex changed their instructions but I tried it and felt it did still dilute it and did not have the lifting power I wanted.
4 years later Brad now has 7.37 MILLION followers ❤️‼️
"I've burned off my hair before so...."
Me: *pauses video* Stop it. Get some help.
I honestly always avoided watching your videos because i expected you to be really mean and condescending but youre actually SOOOO sweet, funny, and insanely nice!!! I can see that you're actually a good, down to earth person and now im binge watching all of your videos!! ❤️❤️❤️😊
React to Cutting my own hair fails! And more of these bleaching fails 😂 love your videos
Ray Klait yasss totally it would be so funny
Is it bad that I always just skip to when he actually starts watching the video
Mariellen Stathopoulos I do that
Yeah, he talks for 3 freaking minutes for his intro. JUST GET ON WITH IT.
I mean, it's not bad but he does say some interesting stuff in the intro if you listen to it.
Mariellen Stathopoulos i do 150% of the tine
From 728,000 beginning of 2018 to 3.56 million subscribers in the end of 2019... Brad is out here DOING THINGS👏🏼👏🏼
Her bag has no end to it! It reminded me of a magician pulling endless bunnies out of a top hat🎩
