I use to live in Sooke and go fishing for shrimps off the dock at night sipping on a beer with friend with a net made from a bicycle rim and onion bag , would catch a few dungeness and red rock too and even a sea cucumber once , great time...I miss it , thanks for the great post .

That should be all you need. GoPro has a built in mic (though it doesn't work that well in the waterproof case) and there are many mounting option you can buy as well as flotation backs, extra battery backs etc.
cage design is not good, cage eyes size should be smaller so it is not dificult for the crabs to get in.. youre lucky u have lots of crabs in your place.
I totally agree. It's hard for the crabs to enter - their claws get caught in the wire doors. I tried an experiment - I modified the doors, attaching fine mesh screen...but, I got fewer crabs. Not what I expected.

Lots of places to crab around Victoria ,, Cattle point - Esquimalt lagoon, Sooke -- Sidney ., Some places from shore -some places just get a small life raft.Best at slack tide . Drop the gear around 1 hour before a slack tide.,Just use the cheapest part of chicken for bait like the bones with a little meat on it .Or Turkey and chicken necks . If you use a small life raft just go to a place like Esquimalt lagoon . Do not go some place where the water at tide change moves to much .,

In British Columbia Dun gees have to be 6.5 inches .. But Red Rock Crabs only have to be 4 inches .I think in Washington state Red Rocks the size is bigger .And in BC we do not have a closing season we can Crab year Round
I just watched a clip with the same trap in principle. And none of the crabs managed to get in. I am confused but I know from you footage. I am going to get out the GOPRO and start working on the perfect trap. thanks
