Bart, spent 2 hours tonight researching gimbals. I wanted one that would work for my iPhone and my GoPro. Thanks for a great review!! Answered all my questions, and you went over everything that was a concern on mine! Just bought it on Amazon! Was under $200! Thanks for taking the time to make this review.
Thank you for the detailed review of this unit. Your experiences are the same as mine. I originally had the v1 version of the HHG-01 and had issues with the unit losing "level" at times. Unfortunately when i exchanged it and received the v2 which is the same as what you have, I also still had the same issue of inconsistent level. I really do hope Lanparte can offer a firmware-related fix as aside from this, the unit is really impressive in build and design. I agree that the balancing system could be better. I also wished it had 1/4" mounting holes in the handle so it can be mounted to rods or handles. Overall, this is a great little unit which is almost perfect.
I have been researching rumors on the upcoming iPhone 7, and it looks like the high-end version will have a really sweet dual-lens camera. My bet is that it will fit on this gimbal just fine, and only be that much more amazing. Like you, I have lots of hug, heavy, and expensive gear. The gap is narrowing. I think the future of super-portable rigs is so exciting.
Hey Bart, I enjoyed your review, having looked at your footage, I can't see any but are you aware of any 'footstepping' effect whilst walking around with the unit ? I've been using the Feiyu-Tech G3 and Rollei alternative and can't see any way of avoiding this annoying effect...
Your footsteps will show up, as the gimbal has nothing to handle the vertical movement. I have become rather good as walking with gimbals and letting my arm and walk absorb most of the noticeable movement. It takes practice.
+hobidolap I am not sure if it will work with a HERO 2. I believe the HERO 2 has a deeper body than the HERO3, 3+, and 4. This means it would not sit with its back flush to the mounting plate and would be tilted downward. But you might be able to use a short GoPro extension to move the camera body out a bit. Not sure if it would balance properly.
Bart, if it you had been shooting with an iPhone, do you think you could have attached ear buds or a short wired lapel mic? In other words, would that slight tension had thrown off the balance?
+Joe Van Wyk I think adding something small like that would work just fine. The gimbal compensates pretty well. You would just want to make sure to give yourself a long enough cord to move freely.
Great video Bart, thanks for posting. If I want monitoring, do you think this would work with the GoPro BacPac or am I going to need something external? Thanks bro!
Maverick Monk Productions You won't be able to use the GoPro LCD BacPac on this. The GoPro needs to mount bare to the gimbal. I use the wifi and my phone to control and monitor the GoPro
+TheNamesUnknown you might be able to if it uses the standard GoPro style mounting. You may run into issues with balancing depending on the size and shape of your camera.
I'm looking into getting one of these. My question is does the motor ever come into frame when turning (I have this issue with my Zhiyun Smooth Q even when turning slowly)? Edit: also want to know where you can get the firmware update currently?
I never ran into any issues with the motor coming into the frame. As for the firmware update, I am not sure where that can be found. You might want to reach out to LanParte directly to see about that.
Good review. I'm thinking of purchasing this gimbal for my backpacking videos. How do you think it will hold up in a backpack? How delicate is it? Obviously, I would be careful with it but I wouldn't want to take it if I think it will break.
+featheredprop It is fairly sturdy, but there is a lot of plastic. And if it gets pushed too far while packed away it can potentially break the built in hard stops and possibly pull cables. If you are able to keep it in the case and still fit it in with your gear, I think that would be ideal.
Can you speak to the differences between the Lanparte HHG-01 and Feiyu G4? I've got the FYG4 right now but I'm not sure that i'm totally happy with it. I do like the size of the grip the HHG offers as well as the option to use either gopro or iPhone 6! What are your thoughts?
+Adrian Keith I have not personally used the Feiyu gimbals, so I am not sure of their exact specs. However, I believe they have different modes for follow mode and locked off mode, as well as a joystick. The HHG-01 does not have different modes or a joystick. It is always in follow mode.
+Bart Johnson Productions How well does the HHG work with your iPhone? I'm heavily contemplating returning the G4 as it doesn't offer the same flexibility as the HHG.
+Glend W I'm not familiar with that camera. If it has a similar size and weight to a smartphone you could try it. Unfortunately you cannot program the strength of the motors to accommodate heavier cameras.
Bart Johnson Productions are you still using it now? and how is it after a few months of use? it's the only one that is available in my country (locally). I can always buy from overseas but it'd be more expensive.
Bart Johnson Productions You mentioned that it's not always level and that sometimes it takes 15 mins to level out. Do these things still happen a lot or have you found ways to fix them?
It still does happen. I have a feeling this has to do with me using the GoPro HERO4, which has a different weight distribution than the HERO3 and HERO3+ due to the battery redesign. The only way to fix this would be with a software update that would boost the motor on that axis. There is a USB port for firmware updates, but so far I do not know of any updates being released.
+FrankieMoto It really depends on what you are looking for. The LA3D has more features and can do more, but it also requires more work to operate those features. If you want simple pop the camera in, turn the gimbal on and go, this is the one for that.
I am actually a pro at photo and video. however I'm starting to consider my youtube channel more seriously. I think the LA3d will fit better. your videos are very helpful. I am trying to see if i get a sponsorship from Lanparte gimbals. No luck so far.I would love to take that gimbal on a motorcycle or some extreme sports and test it out! any advice on batteries? i know its late.thanks
The LA3D is definitely more versatile. You may run into issues at high speeds with the gimbal because of the wind, however. It seems to handle a good bit of resistance, but high speed winds might cause the gimbal to shut down the motors if there is too much resistance. As for batteries, the LA3D comes with a set of batteries that last hours and you can always pick up spares super cheap on Amazon.
ok i see your point! however i know a solution to walk around that. and it works fine. On a supermoto with a chest mount the wind is deflected by the front section of the bike. and the handle bars.. I am guessing because its a supermoto i can do this because of the body position is upright and we dont crouch down into the tank! hey wana help me with the lanparte gimbal sponsor gig? show me some love bro
Kaster Troy Glad the video helped. The wonky weight position is one of my biggest gripes with this. I with they hadn't assumed the best balance was at 90 degree angle.
HELP!!! :-) I have my lanparte....and about 4 powersupllies....now i dont remember anymore WHAT powersupply belongs to my lanparte :-( Can someone help me by telling (or showing) me what is written on the sticker of the power supllie? i would be really greatfull :-/
Flip Flinstone It reads Model YDT1215HL on mine. Output is 13V at 1.2A. But you should be able to use any 12v adapter that outputs less than 1.2A and fits into the connector with negative on the outside and positive on the inside. Although using the original charger is always best.
+AutoNetwork That all depends on what type of microphone it is and if it is compatible with the GoPro or smartphone you are using. The ports on the GoPro and phone should be accessible to plug into while on the gimbal. Just make sure to give the cable plenty of slack so that it has room to move.
vaqueropob188 I haven't worked with that camera, but the PILOTFLY H1 is a new gimbal that seems like it might be promising for use with mirrorless and similarly sized cameras. Should be the right size for the BMPCC. copter-rc.com/en/catalog/60-pilotfly-h1-handheld-3axis-stabilizer-for-mirrorless-camera-.html

No problem! I am so glad it helped and that you got a great price on it! It's always nice to know my videos helped someone.
Beat video I've seen about this. Thank you. I'm thinking lots of people will appreciate that battery test.
+savedfaves Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope it helped!

Thanks for this amazing review. I think I will get one, it's perfect for my travel blog job :)
Very good review, Thank you!
Cheers, Pete
Really fantastic review. Sure appreciate it. I just ordered. Also, I lived in SA for many years! :-)
+Joe Van Wyk I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was actually only visiting San Antonio, but I did enjoy it!
Hi there, I need to know what size does the clamp accepts in thickness? I have a bigger than usual Panasonic CM1?
Hey Bart, I enjoyed your review, having looked at your footage, I can't see any but are you aware of any 'footstepping' effect whilst walking around with the unit ? I've been using the Feiyu-Tech G3 and Rollei alternative and can't see any way of avoiding this annoying effect...

Awesome. I'll circle around and let you know what I find out. Sure appreciate your response.
Hello.. you said it has pan and follow... Does it have facial tracking for vlogging..?
No this does not have facial tracking. The follow mode means that it follows your movements of the gimbal.
I use the wifi and my phone to control and monitor the GoPro
are you able to use your own frame mount as i have a different action cam (sj4000) that is very similar dimensions and i would like to use that
+TheNamesUnknown you might be able to if it uses the standard GoPro style mounting. You may run into issues with balancing depending on the size and shape of your camera.
Is there no alternative setup for palm style POV cams?
I'm looking into getting one of these. My question is does the motor ever come into frame when turning (I have this issue with my Zhiyun Smooth Q even when turning slowly)?

+featheredprop Glad I could help. I think this will work well for you.
Good review. Is this compatible with the hero session? Thanks.
I believe they do make an attachment that allows the session to be used.
Bart Johnson Productions thank you sir.

+Glend W I'm not familiar with that camera. If it has a similar size and weight to a smartphone you could try it. Unfortunately you cannot program the strength of the motors to accommodate heavier cameras.
Bart Johnson Productions Thank you for your information. I'll go look around and see if it fits. :)
Bart Johnson Productions are you still using it now? and how is it after a few months of use? it's the only one that is available in my country (locally). I can always buy from overseas but it'd be more expensive.
Yes, I am still using it. Still works great. I've used it in several of my videos. It is built very sturdy and holds up to use very well.
Thanks for the info. I'm considering buying this as well but I'm worried because it's being sold without warranty here in Malaysia.
With careful use and reasonable care it should last you just as long as any other piece of gear. It really is well made. Metal and rugged plastic.
Bart Johnson Productions You mentioned that it's not always level and that sometimes it takes 15 mins to level out. Do these things still happen a lot or have you found ways to fix them?

what would you say is better this one or the lanparte la3d? maybe its obiious

Thanks for the video & go pro tip, i just got one of these and was scratching my head as to where to put the counter wights.
Kaster Troy Glad the video helped. The wonky weight position is one of my biggest gripes with this. I with they hadn't assumed the best balance was at 90 degree angle.
Will this work with the Sony x1000v ?
+rafael gonzalez I am not familiar with that camera, but I don't believe so. This is designed for smartphones and GoPros.
+Bart Johnson Productions ok thank you for taking the time to respond back.

I'm looking to replace mine, anybody know of a distributor of this power supply? Thanks!
is there away to add external mic?
+AutoNetwork You could use some sort of clamp to clamp to the grip and add a mount for a mic.
+Bart Johnson Productions would the mic input be directly into GoPro or smartphone mic input?
+AutoNetwork That all depends on what type of microphone it is and if it is compatible with the GoPro or smartphone you are using. The ports on the GoPro and phone should be accessible to plug into while on the gimbal. Just make sure to give the cable plenty of slack so that it has room to move.
+Bart Johnson Productions tks. the mics i have work with GoPro and iPhone 6s. does Lanpart sell just the light weight cable used with the monitor?
+AutoNetwork I am not sure if the do or not.

wow is a lot of distortion in that camera why?????
+jor bonta Do you mean the lens distortion? It is the wide angle lens of the GoPro
