In the case of the cricket bat, the point on which you should focus is the mass distribution rather than the radius or distance of the point of application of force from the axis because it (the distance) is pretty much the same whether you rotate it from either of the ends so to minimize the moment of inertia to get maximum possible angular acceleration we should have the heavier part as close is possible to the axis but in the case of the door the mass distribution is not the concern because it is uniform so to maximize the angular acceleration you can only work with torque here so to make the torque maximum we apply the force as far as possible from the axis😇
