Honestly, if they keep it up with the new content, I can see that Retold will be very popular. Freyr and minor Gods look insane, Chinese and another all new culture already confirmed, you really love to see this game finally getting the love it deserves.
It’s gonna depend on how well it runs. Optimization is what killed AoE 3 DE for a lot of people and that game didn’t quite click for people in the same way AoE2 and the original AoM did.
@@NathanCassidy721 TBH RTS games are not big deal. We have a lot of them, but the thing about AoM is getting more work on makes it possible to be the best RTS game at the moment. It just need to have more content and more diversity from my perspective.

They also did some interview rather recently at gamescom where they not only showed off Freyr and the new minos gods but also said again that these 2 new cultures are already in the works.
Maybe the fitting minor god was the issue. I mean draugr fits well to a frosty god but idk why they took Ullr since he is so similar to Skadi but I definitely like the other ones.
It's such a good controlled leak. Look at it, makes me want to buy it and i already have it. This will incentivize people to try the game at it's release.
Idk man, I love the game too but we need to be more aware and logical about what this means. This is signalling to me that every +1 major god for each existing pantheon is a separate dlc. I predict pay to win powercreep, and fractured new pantheons that come with god bundles which by the end come with a higher total cost for what used to previously be considered a “DLC/Expansion”. Frankly, I am worried.
@@isaacPc9 They are using their aoe2 DE model whereby the original was amazing, HD/EE sucked and "Definitive edition" is another beauty. Aoe2 DE has been actively maintained and has new DLC for 5 consistent years and they're usually kept around same prices, £10-£20 in UK (€15-25). It's very healthy for the game and nice to play the new content. With 7+ of them it does mean £100+ from each person but we are talking about 5 years, £20 a year is worth it. This allows them to keep dedicated teams, who are always working on balance fixes and bug issues 🙂

If you didn’t get the premium edition of the game each dlc leader was $5 and they did 10 of them. So I’d hope it be something small like that.
That Reginleif mission I believe is the cut mission that is from the original AOM campaign. Which actually is genius if so! I was wondering why they cut it. This gives me hope that they did their homework and research on things that was cut or altered in the game that they can now bring to life. I mentioned this mission as one of my 13 suggestions I wanted in the game.
As long as they keep adding more Single Player content I'm in for literally anything. More campaigns, more custom scenarios, maybe even official custom game modes like people used to do for AoM on the workshop and forums

They could go with the name Fafnir brood similar to Fenrir, but it's ok either way. As for medusa, they could have gone for Gorgon, but medusa is a more common name used in pop culture than Gorgon, maybe that is why they chose that.

Excited for all the changes, so far the game has shaped up nicely BTW Drongo the Chinese were added to the EXTENDED edition of the game, released like 6 years ago or something idk. They were very poorly made, for example they used Han Chinese for the voices, which is like having the Swedish chef voicing the norse, just not a lot of effort at all put in.
I really want to see the South America pantheon mod be officialized. The mechanics and myth units are really cool, and I feel like they would be a great addition to the current gameplay mechanics.
Seeing more Dragons in Age of Mythology is going to be so awesome. Only two dragons I know are the floating dragon in the Chinese civ and the Two Horned one in the Norse. More Dragons means more mythology greatness.
There is a mod for original called "Age of Wrath" and it has both Draugr and Fafnir. I wonder if this mod inspired creators of this new gods for the Norse.

A lot of people pronounce it “fray-er” thanks to the Golden Gift campaign from the original game. And while it played fast and loose with the original languages, Classic AoM was pretty good with pronunciation. It’s how I learned to say Nemean and Adamantine properly.

Greeks had cities that focused more some gods. Athena and Apollo were worshiped as major gods in some. For the egyptians... They have those Rah variants, AmonRah and SobekRah, that for their cities they were major. Atlas was THE Titan of Atlantis, he could be the next major.
I doubt Atlas will be a major god, as he's already in the game as a minor god. If they were planning on adding him, they would likely have renamed the minor god already

I like the new content, but in Norse mythology Freyr is the lord of the elves, so I was hoping that Freyr can train elves instead of dwarves, with special abilities (Similar to how AOM-Thor is the lord of the dwarves)

Being a sister of Zeus and having a clear economic focus which would be different from the three current major gods would make her fit perfectly, and her daughter Persephone could be one of the minor gods available to her which could also be made available to Hades.
It’s become very common across the industry, for better or for worse. Usually it’s “content” that was cut and resold as “DLC” if we’re talking AAA games. And for multiplayer games, new content is a way to keep player retention and bring in new revenue. With AoM, it’s a case here as they had a pre-existing game to work with and they saw the positive reaction to the expansions with AoE2 DE and wanted to replicate that.
Fafnir is a male dragon. Fafnir is said to be a dwarf that was so greedy and evil that he turned in to a dragon. Personally, I would have liked Fafnir depicted as more serpent like. But hay. Cool to see Fafnir without wings. Something Fafnir often gets in more modern depictions (but is not mentioned Völsunga saga from what I remember.) Dragons in Norse mythology were often more like giant snakes than what we often see today.
the one thing thats a lil weird/sad is that only the new major god will have access tot he 3 new minor gods (since I bet they dont want to touch the OG roster as far as changing what they got access to). The problem with that is Norse mythology was passed on to the rest of the world through other sources. Particularly, Christian sources that made alterations that twisted the original source material. Source material that wasn’t written down either so we have no idea what the original mythos was. Loki in particular is the prime example of this as he seems to just “appear” conveniently when the Christian monks were writing down the myths of the Norseman.
i wonder if buying dlc changes any of the original norse gods. For example, can you pick Vidar as a mythic god choice on like Loki? if you can't use any of minor gods on other norse gods than this dlc just looks like a power-creep dlc to play Norse.
Rock Giants annoy me. For one they have three giants all ready they dont need another and have other units they could have done. Two Trolls are pretty much Rock Giants all ready. Then you have only one mission not even a mini campagin like Golden Gift. I hope they at least let you play as Freyr on the last mission of that one.
I wonder about the greek pantheon if this is something they are going to do. I'm not sure which three minor gods is going to be in there since the remaining 12 major gods and goddesses remaining in greek pantheon is demeter goddess of seasons which I suspect to be a major gods. The only two I can think of that fit with her is hestia goddess of hearth and persephone the spring goddess. That leaves the last minor gods which I seems to unable to think of anything.
There is a couple of minor gods among greek mythology, like Nyx (goddess of the night) or Erebus (god of the darkness). Not only they sound metal, they are primordial gods. Plenty of opportunities, imo
I really didn't get the hate for the chinese faction - i get, that all the bugs were annoying, i get, that the campaign story wasn't gripping - but the chinese by themselves were really fun to play
Must have been the bugs, the unused God Powers repurposed for the culture, the myth unit choices and the baffling deity choices (Fuxi instead of Yuhuang / Jade Emperor as the chief god, really?)
No, it'll be the same multiplayer for everyone, but only people who have bought Freyr will be able to play as him. Provided Freyr is reasonably balanced against the other gods, this is not Pay To Win, and it's a system that's worked out really well for games like Age of Empires 2 and Total War Warhammer.
Playing this game since 2006 and my biggest wish for Retold was to get a bit more content for the original Pantheons. I am so happy!

"All new" Chinese is already confirmed as 5th Pantheon, will be the first DLC. The 6th is up for speculcation.
It could be a “new” Chinese because that DLC for EE is still very buggy and busted to this day. Which a lot of players would not mind.

stalagmites rise from the ground up, stalagtites drop down from the ceiling. Just think about the tites part in stalagtites. Those eventually sag too.
Rock Giants annoy me. For one they have three giants all ready they dont need another and have other units they could have done. Two Trolls are pretty much Rock Giants all ready. Then you have only one mission not even a mini campagin like Golden Gift. I hope they at least let you play as Freyr on the last mission of that one.

I wonder about the greek pantheon if this is something they are going to do. I'm not sure which three minor gods is going to be in there since the remaining 12 major gods and goddesses remaining in greek pantheon is demeter goddess of seasons which I suspect to be a major gods. The only two I can think of that fit with her is hestia goddess of hearth and persephone the spring goddess. That leaves the last minor gods which I seems to unable to think of anything.
There is a couple of minor gods among greek mythology, like Nyx (goddess of the night) or Erebus (god of the darkness). Not only they sound metal, they are primordial gods. Plenty of opportunities, imo

I really didn't get the hate for the chinese faction - i get, that all the bugs were annoying, i get, that the campaign story wasn't gripping - but the chinese by themselves were really fun to play
Must have been the bugs, the unused God Powers repurposed for the culture, the myth unit choices and the baffling deity choices (Fuxi instead of Yuhuang / Jade Emperor as the chief god, really?)

No, it'll be the same multiplayer for everyone, but only people who have bought Freyr will be able to play as him. Provided Freyr is reasonably balanced against the other gods, this is not Pay To Win, and it's a system that's worked out really well for games like Age of Empires 2 and Total War Warhammer.

The Chinese was not in the original game. It was a bad DLC made for the Steam version
I really want Celts and a revamped Chinese. Then other awesome additions like Indians, possibly Mesopotamians etc
