Its always interesting to me how people seem to believe rim brakes are death traps - as if people hadn't been descending mountains on them for over a century. The 9 speed Shimano rim brakes on my old road bike were better than the TRP discs that came on my gravel bike. Anyways - rad bike, great vid. Thanks for hosting Nutmeg again!

Hello Ron! You’ve inspired me to buy a used Specialized Stumpjumper Duralcan off of eBay. I read on the radavist that you used a shimano un72 BB. Do you remember the spec for the bottom bracket? I’m seeing un72’s listed on eBay as “68mm/107mm” or “127.” I have 170mm specialized son of strong arm cranks if it’s helpful to mention. Apologies for the shameless cry for expertise; I found conflicting guidance on internet forums (shocker). In any case, peace be with you ya suave perveyor of golden age bicycles!!!

The Rworks frame is a triple butted aluminum, on the other hand the Wombat is a double butted steel one, i assume it’s saving almost 2kg / 4,4lbs over the same build, which is insane. My steel rigid mtb is actually pretty light at 12,3kg in size L, I can’t imagine if it was around 10kg, that bike would be flying
breathtaking lack of high maintenance gizmos. love the commentary on rigid xc riding, it resonated with my experience riding my rigid karate monkey around the woods.
