You're brave for riding our old buckman road to Diablo Canyon. It's literally the most washboarded-out stretch of road I've ever ridden. Nice video. Sadly, the bike shop you visited, Mellow Velo went out of business just a few months ago. Come back and ride Pacheco Canyon, probably *the* premier gravel loop in the area!
Such a beautiful town with great cuisine and there are some awesome gravel routes around the area, we stayed at a wonderful air B and B named the Bobcat Inn outside of town and it was remarkable!!!
JOM ..that commuter rail line is called the Rail Runner. Runs down to south of ABQ. Enjoyed the vid as always. The 7,000 ft of elevation got to me as well when I rode out there. Such a cool town.
Nice video journal of Santa Fe. I live just up the road in Taos; NM is in an exceptional drought situation currently and everything (save true mountain terrain) is totally dry. And windy. We would love a month of rain! Washboards are the norm here! Enjoy your visit. There's a ton of gravel to ride in NM, but not particularly well marked.
One of my absolute favorite places I’ve been. I hope you spent enough time to see the entire area. Museums and culture are phenomenal and the riding looks cool! The views are amazing. The hiking is awesome and if you’re into native silver jewelry and art your wallet will be empty.
I share your sentiments, love Santa Fe!, hope to return in the future. I could see myself retiring there assuming I had the $$. Cost of housing is a wee bit pricey.
Visited Santa Fe a few years ago. Seems so strange to see the area so empty. Did you see any of the drug stores or outfitters advertising rescue oxygen supplies for tourists? Remember seeing quite a few of those signs around the edge of the park.
I agree 100%. My family and I were there in October of 2018. The square had ppl everywhere and a two man band playing music..very lively in comparison.
JOM, pardon me for my curiosity, do you keep a spare shoe while walking? Inside the hotel, I did not hear the familiar sound of cleat (I use standard look cover while walking, still lot of sound on tile).
Hello there, in the early part of the video, I was walking around in regular clothes / shoes for the inside sequences. In a nutshell, I conducted a self-guided walking tour in the morning, then took the bike to film a few things I missed, and the gravel ride itself.
As a native of New Mexico, and one who lived there quite some years ago, I got very tired of washboard dirt roads. There was a time when not many of New Mexico's roads were paved, and were graded once a week. If the roads got too bad, my grandfather would go to the city hall and raise hell, and the next day the grader would come by and smooth it out. The grader always made 3 passes, one on each side of the road at an angle so the water would run off (it seldom rained, but when it did, it made up for lost time), and the final pass down the center to make it smooth. Personally, I hated New Mexico. I grew tired of dirt, tumbleweeds, goat head stickers, and the color brown. I left as soon as I was old enough, and now live in Japan, a colorful country with nice scenery, with lots of streams, rivers, beaches, and coastline. What I do miss about New Mexico is the dry air, and the smell of rain in the air in the late summer when the storms would start to roll in from the west.
Your videos are the best! That ride was crazy. Especially the washboard section. And one handed...keep up the good work.

Yeah it is!!! Tucson, Arizona is cheap though. Lol. I love that area too and it’s not far from Santa Fe.
