Yep, usually as long as the sides are clear and they are getting light it works well. Depending on where its placed, it also helps to shade the light if it is too strong. Obviously any type of clear top would work, but if I had a lid that already fits I find it easiest to use that.
To spray the plants? Yeah that would work. You just want to make sure you are spraying instead of just leaving a puddles as the leaves need to be moist.

So, these plants actually grew emersed using a "Red color Top" instead of clear top or Saran wrap etc?
