The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Election Commission of India following a plea urging for fresh elections if the 'None of the Above' (NOTA) option receives the highest votes. Shiv Khera, a writer and motivational speaker, filed the petition seeking to declare elections in a constituency as "null and void" if a majority of voters choose NOTA. The petition also proposes barring candidates who lose to NOTA from contesting elections for five years. A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, directed the Election Commission to examine the regulations concerning NOTA.
