The sum up advice here is - play clubs you know how to play. For me the tee shots were a horror - I was not able to play anything but irons for a while, and discovering that there are driving irons and I don't have to look for a driver/hybrid sliced out to the woods every time, was the biggest game changer that got me to lower twenties. Later on I caught up with woods, but still, have I not randomly tried the u505, I might not be playing golf at all. I still carry it, it flies between my 7 wood and 3 wood, but I mostly play it into the wind, or as a second shot into a par 5.
Lob wedge - I carry a 58 degree wedge for emergency use, and for me any bunker is an emergency! In fairness it works well for me from 40 yards to 70 yards, but I still feel more comfortable with lower lofted clubs as I grew up on links golf so a 5i bump and run from 60 yards is a playable shot. As for a 2i, never used one. I know with my speed any iron with a loft of under 25 degrees is a problem to get a consistent launch. As I hit irons well I guess a 2i could be OK for me from the tee, but seems a waste of space I would add in the list of clubs to avoid the 3w and probably the 3h, in both cases unless you have better than average swing speeds getting enough launch and peak height will be a problem. I dropped my 3h for a 7w which was a definite improvement
I’ve worked a ton on my 1 iron and 60° and totally agree with you Matt. Finally confident in them but they are for fun rarely used for trying to score well. The driver, yeah I’m looking to go forgiveness on the next one. Getting to low single digit handicap I used my driver far less, only when needed 👍🏼. I’ll never depart with my 5 wood or 56°
Agree Matt , especially the 60 , this is an emergency club imo I've got an LS driver which is brilliant when I'm swinging bob on However it spends most of the time waiting for me
I remember the Callaway Sub Zero when it first came out and it was seen as the holy grail. Hit a demo on the course (not fitted for me but nevertheless) and I couldn’t get this thing to hit a ball above 15 feet in the air ! Didn’t bother with a purchase on that occasion 😂
I can square the face much easier with a forward weighted driver (low spin type generally) give me any so called forgiving driver and I can miss it off the planet! Horses for courses I'm afraid. Some will find rear weighted easier, some vice versa. It's about what's the most forgiving for you
I’ve changed to a 4 and a 5 hybrids and my irons stop at 6 and I’ve played so much better golf ( I’m a10 handicap )with a 5 wood but I’ve always had a 5 wood use it loads off the tee And changed my wedges to 58/54/50 which had help massively not leaving short shots to short . I play far more to my handicap and it’s going down .also I’m 50 and went to regular shafts massive difference can carry an 8 iron 155/160 . All means I love golf even more 😂😂

For me, the 5w goes left. A driving iron/low iron typically flies straight
Great advice - hilarious ending! Take the Lob Wedge out - and click here to get more out of your Lob Wedge! 🤣
Totally agree with those 3.. and in my case the 3 wood was another that I took out of the bag.

I replaces my 4hybrid with a 3iron and I can strike it way more consistently. Great safety club for off the tee when it just needs to go straight.

This is excellent information
Matt - now that you’re with Mizuno, could you do a review on the 20k waterproof jacket? Not a RUclips review to be found !
