    Love the fact that you say 'Tam-eeya' and 'Dee-kals' while us Brits say 'Tami-yah' and 'Deck-als' :-). Your build videos are so therapeutic to watch - one of my favourite places to visit at times of stress. Many thanks.

    Your tip for using Taimya black panel liner on the tyres of wheels has to be the most useful thing I've learned in a long time. I've just resprayed my Tamiya Panzer II from dark yellow to German grey and it works an absolute treat. I now have some of the neatest wheels I've ever painted! :-)

    Love the mats - I'm surprised there are not more like that, such a simple idea. The stencils, though, not so much. After they have been used once they will not be unique and, I suspect, they will be more of a faff to use than just streaking and blotting the usual way.
    Nice model, BTW.

    Hi, i am currently building this model and (before having mounted the tracks) i believe it would be very difficult to mount the fenders before the tracks due to the pressure needed to get the assembling guides of the fenders into place. I could press the fenders upwards now but it would have been basically impossible with the tracks in place. :) I'm really enjoying this build, it's my first Border model, i am planning an El Alamein diorama, and of course as soon as i bought this kit and few Afrika Korps miniatures, Tamiya comes out with their own F2, miniatures included ...

    • @derekbaker3279
      @derekbaker3279 3 года назад +1

      From what I understand, the transition from "F-2" to "G" models of the Pz. Kpfw IV was gradual, and some factories took longer than others. Since attrition was quite high on the Eastern Front, tanks from each factory were not kept together, but were sent wherever replacements were needed & whereever new units were being formed for Operation Fall Blau, (Interestingly, the Germans never really used the designations of "F-1" & "F-2", but went straight from "F" to "F lang" (F with long gun) to "G"). 😊
      To add to the confusion, replacement parts for the upgraded F models & early G models were not readily available, so sometimes older parts were used for repairs if they were compatible. Furthermore, some upgrading with the latest parts occurred, even if the new parts were not officially for the older tanks (e.g. some older models were fitted with schurtzen if the materials were available).
      The net result is that there were differences from tank to tank - some were obvious & some were not. Therefore, to some degree, there isn't a definitive "F", definitive "F-2" or definitive "G-early". For modellers who worry about accuracy, they should aim to replicate a specific tank, for which they have plenty of reference photos/vids captured at a known period of time on the front line. In the case of Andy's tank, I guess it's possible that the museum's Pz. Kpfw. IVG has older hatches? I don't remember, if they do. 😊

    Curious as to which barrel you used. The kit comes with three "G" barrels, one aluminum and two plastic, C29 and the longer K27?

    • @derekbaker3279
      @derekbaker3279 3 года назад

      Hi David. FWIW, I think that the transitions from "F" to "F lang" (*), then to "G" were not immediate, and the changes made at various factories were not totally synchronized. 😊
      (*) [ "F lang" = "F long", i.e. German for a long-barrelled F model....and from what I understand, they didn't differentiate by using the terms "F-1" and "F-2".].
      So, because the changes to manufactured tanks were gradually phased in while supplies of old parts in each factory were being used up, there were "F lang" tanks reaching the units on the front line that differed from one to the next, and from unit to unit.
      When it comes to armament, if I recall correctly, the first transition that occurred was from the short L/24 75mm barrel to the longer L/42 barrel with the round muzzle break, then the next change was sticking with the L/42 gun, but adding the new muzzle break. Finally, at some point, the L/42 gun with new muzzle break was replaced by the L/48 gun with the new muzzle break came along (which I think represents the mid-G and late-G/early H versions). 😊
      So, assuming you haven't gone ahead and picked one so you can continue with the build, I will recommend that you either go the artistic route by choosing whatever one you wish to use, or peruse photos/videos showing actual Pz. Kpfw. IV "F lang" & "G" tanks that were at the Eastern Front at a point in time that interests you, then build your model to represent an example you know existed. (BTW, given the lack of a clear & sudden change from one model of Pz. Kpfw. IV to the next, it's possible that the authors of some books/documentaries/videos may have mis-identified German tanks (unless it was Hilary Doyle, as he is one of the leading gurus when it comes to WWII AFVs), so keep that in mind too. 😊

    • @davidgolinsky
      @davidgolinsky 3 года назад

      @@derekbaker3279 I appreciate all the info...the problem is, is that there is way too much reference material by too many so-called "experts" claiming this tank this or that tank had that, which in turn makes things confusing to even the seasoned hobbyist like myself. I build for pleasure, relaxation and accuracy. But sometimes things can go too far. As far as my final build, I went with the early G with the L/42 barrel with double baffle muzzle break.
