  • Looking at my scrap pile that I was about to cut for firewood, I thought I might put it to better use. I detail the process of building a large, thick end-grain cutting board only from scrap pieces.
For this project you will need a table saw, a planer (thicknesser) and a sander. A palm router and a CNC are optional but useful.
My CNC is an, Aureus 3X from Euro Maker, similar to a Shapeoko or an X-Carve.

Lovely design. Thnx. I do dislike the massive handles though but thats just personal opinion. 😁

Thanks! I've put function over form here: I do the handles big enough so that I can fit a plate under them and push the food easily in the plate without making a mess. I'm clumsy. :)

      @@stephanforseilles plate idea makes sense.

If I might offer a suggestion. When you do your glue up, flip all the ones you are are going to apply glue. Pour a bunch of glue then spread the glue with a mini paint roller. This will literally take a tiny fraction of the time than the way you are doing it, one at a time. Also, if you plan to make a lot of these, consider using a surfacing router bit, like this one:

The pieces are of different thicknesses. A paint roller wouldn't be much help. If you look at some of Stephan's other videos, he normally does use a roller.

Indeed, but I forgot to clean it and chunks came away when I removed the glue. RIP faithful roller. Will treat myself with a new one next Christmas. ;) However the Rockler 'comb' works well too if all the pieces are the same thickness, I don't do them one by one.
And I agree for the surfacing, I have a surfacing bit exactly like this one (except it has 4 inserts) on order but it has not been delivered yet (I suspect it comes directly from China).

C'est de la pile de chute, il ya un peu de tout. Mais comme c'est une planche à découper, uniquement du dur: chêne, padauk, hêtre, iroko, frêne.
