One time back in early 70s Marty an Millie matorella from Roch. Was at Steuben bowl bath ny. Putting on a exhibition bowled against dean soor py My. An Al O brocta from bath both were Awesome bowlers
This is astonishing to watch because I bowled with and against Marty as a kid in Syracuse, and he must have been in his late 60's or early 70's then, and his motions and style are IDENTICAL, even down to the weight he used to wear on his opposite hand. He trounced me on WSTM Channel 3 bowling "Beat The Pro" when I was a cocky 16 or 17 year old. :)
I remember watching this back in '71... was so excited because I lived about 100 miles north of Syracuse and watched him on Syracuse Bowls TV show on Sundays...
Didn't Marty pronounce his last name "Pih-RAN-oh"? Chris Schenkel calls him "Pie-RAIN-oh" throughout this match. Shouldn't pronunciations be a basic part of preparation for big-time network pros? Anyway, I went to SU from 1973-77 and also watched Syracuse Bowls, with Marty offering analysis and Joel Mareiniss doing the play-by-play. "The balls will be rolling and the pins will be falling as ... Syracuse Bowls!"
I remember watching Marty Piraino roll his 12th ball at Ballinger Bowl back in '73 or so, for a 300 (back when it took SKILL to do). Rest In Peace, Mr. Piraino.
Millie was the first lady to 300 on the pwba. Also first to win the queens tourn Back to back once her maiden name ignizio.then married name matorella She was from Rochester ny
impossible not to root for Mr.Piraino here. Mr. Davis was coming off a bit pompous in this one, seemed overconfident at first lol. This is my first opportunity to watch Mr. Piraino, its an absolute TREAT that has me wanting to try his release this afternoon. FLIP
Lyle Zikes said it best! If the Pro Bowlers Tour had a senior tour back in the 70's Marty would dominate. The senior tour didn't come to be until 1981.

I've never seen Marty in competition, but holy cow. What a treat to watch!

I always like watching Dave Davis bowl.....always seemed like he was enjoying himself!!!
except in this match 🤣
I grew up watching Marty on Challenge Bowling on channel 3 in Syracuse. Nice to finally see him bowl.
Marty was a great man. I had the pleasure of working with him at the Ritger Camp and he was just an all around wonderful guy. A class act.

@@MrHmg55 Yes, that pronunciation bugged me throughout the whole show...
I'm from Syracuse, I remember Marty always telling us kids " straighter is greater" really great man

Marty is the best bowler ever out of Syracuse

Marty will forever be my idol. he could really string strikes with the best of them.
A different era in bowling. A time when you'd hit the pocket light & leave the 5 pin. Or maybe an 8-10 for the righties.

And it was just a short time ago that we lost Marty! RIP!
Davis seems to always have trouble with the approaches, even as a senior
Mike Durbin missed the TV finals by 136 pins.
would love to see martys last victory in 73 or 74 when he bowled 299
Wouldn't know Piraino if he bowled me over
Sorry
