    Will you share what ideology/method/school of soil amendment you follow? Or what type of soil consultant you trust?

    We run VERY similar nutrient mixes... good stuff! I'm glad you mentioned how the plants and soil feed each other... that is a KEY POINT most people miss!

    Do you ever use soy bean meal? Highest in L-glycine, earths natural chelator. Ever try Humic DG?
    Mushroom compost? Do you have a worm farm or have you ever added worms?
    Thanks!

      Soybean meal interferes with germination. Mushroom compost is an expensive purchased product which is inferior to compost we can make at the farm.

    Every year I watch the phosphorus levels very slowly and gradually creep up. I use a commercially available compost made from food waste, horse bedding, and cow manure. The compost tests out with .37 phosphorus so I know this isn't helping my problem, but my soil needs the organic matter. Have you ever been concerned about phosphorus in your planting beds?

      Plant Don't mind little more phosphorus . They will use what they need. Different plants have different needs.
      If your plants don't grow then you may need to remove and replace soil with fresh compost/manure. Otherwise stop fretting and start planting!

    Love the idea of a mix from different sources. Thanks for sharing!

    When re-amending the soil, do you average all of the plots and treat them all the same, or do you treat them all differently according to the test result you had in the spot? Do you ever amend one bed differently because of what you will be growing there, or are you basically just creating a healthy balanced soil that has everything one plant could need and letting the plant / soil life combination sort it all out?

      @NeversinkFarm  6 лет назад +1

      I average some but split the farm up into about 20 plots and then mix them again each year so that the entire farm is equally balanced.

    To boost your soil biota try a bacterial-fungal cocktail called Recharge which you can buy on Amazon. Stuff is amazing. So is Azomite for micro nutrients.

      I try to create the right environment for the biology to thrive. All the biology is in the soil already. I do not personally think you need to add it. The environment is what is important as the biology will only thrive when it is right. If it isn't, even if you add it, it will not do well.

      Minerals are part of our balancing which is done once per year based on soil tests

      If starting fresh use 30% soil + 40% compost + 40% cow/horse manure.
      If chicken manure use 30%
      If recharging add just compost+manure mix 2 inches on top for small root veggies

    Have you ever used seabird guano?
    Have you looked into the use of Bio-char?
    i believe that bio-char will lower the cost of future inputs, increasing ROI.; can you address this input?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Interesting mix, a lot of amendments are done by 'feel'. Do you do trials or just go by how well last years mix went in general?

    I like to fish can the waste be dried and added to the garden?

    • @hervva
      @hervva 3 года назад

      i guess it can, but it may be easier to compost it fresh rather than drying. Meat and fish can be composted by burrying it under garden bed.
