- Steamed? Yes, I have thought about this since the last time I read someone talking about hard crusts on their soda bread. This is a way to ensure the bread is baked through without it getting too dark.
I gave it 30 minutes then an additional 15 minutes once I removed the trays. If you want a bit more color just give it another 5 minutes or so
I always steam my yeast breads so I figured it would work here and it does. Check out the video for more. You can also use a Dutch oven for this
This is a Traditional Irish Brown Soda Bread with the exception of a little added baking powder
This was delicious, thin crisp crust and a really moist crumb.
Alternatively you can just bake it at 200C Conventional oven Fir 45 minutes. Wrap it in a clean tea towel and eat it once it cools down
Have a go and let me know how you get on!
Have a Happy St Patrick’s Day 2024 me aul flowers!

🧚🧚🧚🧚♀Yumm!!💛
You can also soften the crust buy wrapping in a tea towel and then into a plastic bag until the bread cools. I bake mine in a cast iron pot, lid on, and get great results.
Yes, I have another video there where I wrap it in a tea towel. Cheers pal! Have a great St Patrick’s Day! ☘️
I saw the tea towel tip on NYT cooking and it worked great! @@irishbakerabroad
