I might be a little late to answer, but it’s because Sanemi is colorblind and Obanai is like blind in one eye, the right one(yellow/orange) Hope this helped you a bit! :)
correct me if im wrong but the nichirin blades can only kill be decapitating because t hey have the suns powers in them right? if so then tanjiro as a demon being immune to the sun shouldnt die from decapitation then as the sun in the blade cant harm him so no demon slayer apart from shinobu would be able to kill him

@Camelia3003 the katanas they use are special as they are made from an ore that absorbs sunlight. If they tried fighting demons with normal ore katana they would not be able to kill the demons
