As a former LEO, I truly think it's important for citizens to be able to protect their families and themselves in a manner that's moral and prudent.Your videos are a wealth of knowledge that most citizens with firearms probably don't know and should know. I advise all people that own a firearm to get training on their weapon and, if possible with a training weapon, put yourself through some tactical home situations that can possibly give you some mind muscle memory in case a situation like that were to arrise. Brother, having the sword of the Spirit and an earthly sword ready to rock, is awesome. Its great seeing a man, reading the word, yet teaching practical defense. I believe also, if the person went into the kitchen, that could provide an unarmed person a weapon, and if they are showing ability, capability, opportunity, and intent, a justification could be explained.
Unfortunately the law means very little if you have a radical DA that’ll do anything to put you in prison. I feel like they do a ridiculously good job at making any situation appear as if you could have fled without harming anyone. I live in Texas too btw

At the end of the day you have to decide what the safety of your family is worth to you. Of course, I would do my best to abide by the law in a home defense situation. But the defense of my family would come first, and if by accident or by some corrupt DA I went to prison for defending my family, I could live with that much more easily than I could live with losing a family member because I hesitated due to legal crap. At the end of the day, you have to decide what your family's life is worth to you. For me, it's a no brainer.

Thank you for the video. On an earlier video you had done, I mentioned that I wear a pistol while at home always. I started first doing what you show in yours and had been carrying it with me in the house, setting it down beside me where ever I was at. I came to the conclusion that it didn't work for me because if I left it in the kitchen while getting chips and a soda, it does me absolutely no good if I sit on my couch and forget it there. There was a surprising amount of push back on that comment. I think everyone should do what works for themselves. Carry it in your hand, on your waste, or leave it in the bedroom if you believe you are the flash and can get to it first running down the hallway faster than the guys bullets if he decides to shoot. On a similar subject, I just watched a video from Masad Ayoob and he was going over weapon flash lights and how they can land you in jail. Do you have any plans on doing a video on the subject. I had never thought of that much on how using one on your property or even in your house could land you in jail. While I have a much clearer picture of what's legal, many in your audience may not ever see that video and may well appreciate your take on it. Thanks again for your channel.

I do find it worth thought - in situations when the intruder is running out the door or towards it - is it objectively a good idea to send rounds towards them and the threshold. Likely it will be justified but is it a safe option. We aren't always as accurate as we train to be - especially for the lesser trained majority of owners - and given the variety of scenarios whether you are tired or otherwise impaired enough to affect your reaction time and overall processing how responsible should you be held if that round ends up outside your home and makes impact in something other than your target. Not even considering the worst case of hitting an unintended living target but say like a residence across the street or a vehicle that may or may not be occupied. Sure it's Monday Quarterbacking but I think it's a good idea to think about these things beforehand to mitigate as best we can any issues or if something should happen that we can quickly form a resolution. Either way, great content as always! Finally considering getting into gun ownership after being out of the Marine Corps for about 7 years now and your videos are certainly helpful especially with handguns given my limited experience with them compared to rifle systems.
Dogs are a good alert buddy to have especially at night. Lighting and motion cameras are also very useful, stay safe and stay armed my friends there are some very unstable and unpredictable people out there these days.
A dog can be a first line of defense. It can actually avoid all this. His last video opening a door can be an issue. He should have never opened the door in the first place. Call the police and stay armed.
These situations are always so touchy. The scary thing for me is if they shoot at you while running way. Or if they shoot at you right when their back is turned. I know in these situations time is precious but would a body cam be good addition to your pistol?

Glad I live in TX. As a former TX LEO, I know our deadly force and self defense law, and they’re solidly in favor of the homeowner. In cases such as this, it usually will never go past the officers that respond to the scene.
Excellent video! Very much helps me to know how to respond...need to look up IN laws too. True scenario... So my son responded correctly last year to what he was awakened by my screams at 4:30am. I was downstairs he was sleeping in his bedroom upstairs. He didn't know this but I saw a mouse (I hate them) running unexpectedly in my lovely living room. My son jumped out of bed, loaded gun in hand (which he shared w/me later) and in the dark said "Everything ok mom???" I gave my son a clear response "Everything is ok, we have a mouse in our house." End of event. My son is WELL armed and knows how to handle a weapon and thank God only a critter n not a criminal ...(we did capture that critter too.)
I live in a state that's one of the friendliest in the Union towards home defenders and defensive use of firearms in general. Basically if an intruder is even simply on your property uninvited, we are well within our rights to use deadly force against them. In fact, the laws here tend to favor the defender/home owner so heavily here that citizens are essentially lawfully permitted to shoot an intruder(s) in the back even as they're fleeing or retreating, provided the intruder(s)/assailant(s) are still within the boundaries of the owner's dwelling at the time. At least this was the case last time I checked a couple years back, however they could have been altered or updated since then... It would probably be a good idea for me to check on that and brush up on the latest elements of 'castle doctrine' within my state now that I think about it 😄, just in case there's been any changes or updates made since the last time I examined all of the relevant legislation in-depth.

In NJ we dont have castle doctrine and we have a duty to retreat. Meaning we can only shoot when we have already retreated and can no longer retreat. It leaves us vulnerable in our own homes and is ridiculous.
Thank you for another informative video! I watched your previous home defense breakdown and the wine sipping got me thinking: what if you found yourself in a self defense while inebriated (drunk)? I personally think it would make for an interesting video.
Please Mr navy seal what happens when I am on the shitter with the taco bell gut faucet running and I left my sidearm on the coffee table and there's a knock at my door and it's the FedEx guy but I can't be sure. Should I grab my bathroom defense shotgun and forgo the wipe to immediately meet any possible threat or should I clean up and retrieve the package from the porch later. Please make a video on this specific situation I can't go about my daily life without you walking me through my paranoid hero complex fantasies
One thing: the fact that the door was not latched / locked will raise questions with both the police and a jury. Also, shooting a perp in the back - even in "stand your ground" / "Castle doctrine" states can very likely cause difficulty with your defense as when the perp is retreating they are no longer considered a threat (given they are not still shooting at you).
Circumstances will dictate. The standard is "reasonable fear of imminent death or harm". If someone is holding a weapon and already breached a house, giving them an opportunity to take cover is putting own life at risk. It suddenly becomes a lot less convincing if they're not armed, though. Even if personally I'm not very sympathetic to the home invader regardless. IMO people assume way too much calm, composed thinking in situations like this. Someone physically breaking into a house is already a surprise, high stakes scenario for the people inside. These entire interactions play out in a matter of seconds. Not everyone has military training...nor should they need that to justifiably react to a serious threat created by malicious criminal intent (forcibly breaching a home is necessarily this). Someone in the act of turning might be turning to run away, or they might be doing something else. By the time you're pulling trigger, they're getting hit in the back, in < 500 ms! Even so, juries are armchair combatants/call of duty players when deciding what someone who had their life threatened "should have done". Thus even though it's awful, it's a fact of our legal system.
4:02 In my state, Castle Doctrine says you wouldn’t, but knowing that the government is fucked up, you’d most likely go to court and spend some time in jail until they back down cause lawyers would push Castle Doctrine. Doesn’t matter if they have a weapon or not either since Castle Doctrine just says you can defend yourself the second someone kicks in a door or breaks through a window
Lol this reminds me of the time my wife got my son a new alarm for school. I heard it go off while i was asleep jump out of bed and grab my SFT that was on the night stand. Should I grab my bathroom defense shotgun and forgo the wipe to immediately meet any possible threat or should I clean up and retrieve the package from the porch later. Please make a video on this specific situation I can't go about my daily life without you walking me through my paranoid hero complex fantasies
@@MacPNW that was uncalled for.
@@infernosierra you'll be alright
@@MacPNW thats why you need a ring camera
Congratulations for your video
I love the sign on the table LOL. Great video.
Good discussion.
The rolls on the grass I've seen in a long time 😂
The Ring camera feed takes forever to load sometimes.
Great points!! My exterior doors are double barricaded.
Thank you.

Love your videos, please keep doing what you are doing.
In Indiana (where I'm currently at), if someone crosses the threshold of your home you can use deadly force
P.S. Love you Frogman! Go Navy!
