Short term thinking and this one is a drop in the bucket compared to the federal funds we are handing private firms. Public funding and clear long term non political directives should have gone to NASA instead. It's going to come back to bite US in the butt. We might have saved a little in the short term but we now have Boeing Lockheed (ULA) and the guy with a Ketamine prescription more or less controlling the largest part of US space capabilities and owning the IP. How long until they all decide to collude on their launch contracts to fleece the taxpayer and make their shareholders happy (or raise cash for vanity projects in the case of ketamine guy) and we are back to square one with NASA having no capability?
