Generally craftsman don’t like to work with homeowners because they have too many ignorant opinions, and not enough skill. These fantastic craftsman treat you like a good hoddie, which is a huge compliment. It’s amazing to see how much you’ve picked up in your short time with them. One of my favorite parts of this channel is just watching y’all work with such good flow and attitude-work is not a four letter word to you two-it’s a blessed opportunity-and that is a joy to watch.

I ditto so many of the comments below... The stonemasons are incredibly talented! So interesting to watch... My husband and I built a rock wall as a large planter bed at our first house. It probably still stands today. ;) I read and read about getting the cornerstones, and slightly leaning the stones for dry-stacked stone walls. Then we built! Hubby pushed, rolled and carried stones up the hill from the unbuilt greenbelt in our subdivision behind our house. But we did very little chipping of the stones themselves. Since we made that three-sided planter bed, I went and grabbed my husband to come and see how you built the archway. Amazing!!! I never would have thought of using styrofoam and sand as a surface to build onto! What a learning curve (pun unintended)!! I am learning sooo much. Wish I was in our early 30's all over again. ;)
Really enjoying watching your whole house rebuild. Thank you! Happy Easter to you all!! ✝💞

Wow, you have two artisans working for you. Keep going, you’ll eventually have a beautiful home, probably won’t need air conditioning given that a stone house will be cooler in the Summer. Thank you for sharing your story. ~Namaste

When I did engineering, I studied the Archway, and I never really appreciated that, But to see it built and come together like this is really very good

Depends on where you are coming from. Cement is the substance however commonly used as the mix with fine sand for laying hard bricks and simply called cement, ciment, etc. Mortar however is more of an adhesive, a mix and can be much different in strenght, water retension, flexibility, durability and the mix can next to the specific cement and sand have lime added to it. This is typically used when working with all kinds of sand-stone (soft stone), natuaral or fabricated, straight or unevenly shaped or for pointing walls while it is more flexible and easy to redo/repair. Concrete however is the mix of concrete cement, stones or little rock pieces or pebbles, fine sand and if you like addatives like for strenght, flexibility, weight, waterproofing, etc. This is the hardest of them all and gives a solid adhesive solution. In normal masonary you do not use concrete because the stones easily unset the bricks. Guess for the slade stone application, very hard stone, you would use the 32.5N/mm² class cement which is used in generally concrete together with sand. That does not make it concrete, it is really cement while using concrete cement as base making it hard, not flexibile, like portland cement (which really is just a name of the collor of the cement named after the cliffs of portland). The rule of thumb is that you use a mortar/cement that is equal or less hard to the hardness of the stone you use to work with.
