  • You may get angry more often after you’ve had a stroke. It can be linked to many things, including your feelings of grief, loss and frustration about your stroke. It can also be linked with changes in the brain making it hard to control your emotions.

It is hard to imagine that a stroke affects your brain, emotions, balance, physical activity, self esteem, independence, loss of job, everything that you as an individual take for granted as normal until the stroke hits and leaves the people close to you to help pick up the pieces, thankfully my amazing wife was 110% for me she got me to the doctors, then stroke hospital, organised everything, looks after me and thankfully I do not have the many symptoms that others do. I am on medication for the stroke and atrial fibrillation, something I have never taken on a permanent basis but you have to listen to the professional people who you hope know what they are talking about. I have been told it should improve with effort, time, persistence, to get results. The question is "will you ever be the same person that you were before the stroke invaded your life?" Let's all hope to see improvements in ourselves and try to stay strong for the benefits of those who look after us!

My husband had a stroke a 6 weeks ago, and one of the BIG changes is his personality, He is in bad mood all the time. the doctors give him some medication to control his anger, but when the effect of the pills pass is mad again, use a lot of bad words always.
He wasn't disrespectful, he never get mad with me , he never use bad word when talked with me.
Also is hard to make him to take all the pills or medicine what the doctors gave to him.
Can my husband be the same person what he was before the stroke??

I had a heatstroke and I deal with anger daily because nothing is the same. I also cuss and yell. The cuss words Judy fly out. I want to ask if I am just supposed to accept everything and not respond. Be patient and try to understand that we can’t be like before and it is not our fault.

Xarelto and Eliquis as blood thinners work best IMO to also help mood. It has to be either or, not both. But when stroke patients are on either one of them, I've observed their moods are better & it curbs their anger.
Although they are solely blood thinners.

I am extremely angry cause my stroke and the aftermath had not had to happen. I don’t think the same way and I can’t see normally or think past feeling mentally delayed, hard to find words at time. I’m more limited now and it never had to happen had my medical plan allowed me to get the stroke protocol. My anger is that I want to hurt those that had control over my health care and didn’t take my concern seriously. I would hurt them if I wasn’t a Christ follower. His word says to pray for your enemy. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Anyway. My family doesn’t understand so..,,

Anger is definitely something I deal with. I had a heatstroke the day after Labor Day and my life is nothing like it was. I also have two hyperthyroid autoimmune diseases to deal with and those cause nerves to be torn up and the thyroid also causes anger.
