Matt, if you're looking for the biggest effect from a bullet impacting dry ice, you want to generate the highest velocity shockwave in the ice block that you possibly can. To do that, you have to balance how far the material has to move to get out of the way (bullet diameter) and how quickly the bullet compresses the material (a maximum of Mach 1 in the medium). A small diameter bullet moving very fast compresses the material to very high pressure, since the material has to move aside very quickly to get out of the way, but the initial area of the shockwave is small because the bullet is acting on a very small area. Since the energy of the wave drops with the square of distance, the energy dissipates a lot before it reaches the outside edge of the ice, meaning that the outer material slows down the inner material, and the whole cloud of expanding debris moves more slowly. A huge bullet moving very slowly doesn't generate as high an initial pressure, but the initial shockwave is larger in diameter, meaning that it has less material to move through before reaching the outer edge of the ice block. The BMG works so well because it's a fairly large bullet moving very quickly, but you actually went the wrong direction with the AP round. For the biggest blast from the dry ice, I think round expansion is going to be the key. I bet the .338 shooting a 300 grain ballistic tip, or a soft point BMG round (do they even make those?) would beat the AP incendiary round. A 12 gauge 3" or 3.5" rifled ballistic tip slug might even beat the BMG rounds you've tried so far. Just get the largest diameter, heaviest bullet at the highest velocity you can find, and make sure it's not an FMJ or AP round.
Sadly, it'd be hard for them to do it together, as he has a job as a vet, and the SlowMo Guys often record an entire years worth of videos in a relatively short amount of time, and also have jobs elsewhere.
The moment he said “fifty BMG” I instantly knew, and you would know too if you keep up with his channel, he would shoot an Armor Piecing Incendiary Round
Fun fact: the process by which dry ice turns to smoke is actually known as sublimation rather than evaporation since it turns from solid directly to gas without being liquid
Glad you got the Five-seveN! I used to own one of those guns about six or seven years ago. They are a joy to shoot and absolute nail drivers. I traded mine in for a couple of carry guns because the ammo was so difficult to get a hold of and I have regretted that decision ever since. It is back at the top of my list of "guns I must own", especially since the ammo is easier to get these days. Hope you enjoy it!
Since both FN makes the 5.7x28mm for the slightly older PS90 (but way ahead of its time and is still a major contender for the PDW Class) as well as the FN Five-Seven. I think you should do a side by side comparison, I know at one point you did own or may still own a PS90 and Five-Seven. Now obviously there's a difference seeing as the PS90 has a longer barrel so it will be going slightly faster. It would still be really cool to see them together. Also I'm sure I'm not the only one on your channel who would love to see it being done. Thanks Matt for your channel, regardless of RUclips's unfortunate un-American stance on gun channels you and many other gun channels are a massive net positive for the site and we all are thankful for what you and many others do. God bless you and your family.
I'm disappointed that it was never mentioned that the FN 5.7x28mm cartridge the Five-seveN fires is the same round used in the much more famous P90. The pistol was, in fact, designed specifically to be used as a companion to the P90 so soldiers carrying them would only have to lug a single cartridge type around, thus simplifying supplies.
@@animalm4st3r The fact that someone designed a pistol that not only shoots FN P90 rounds but is also lightweight and with very little recoil does out a smile on my face.

5.7 pistol can't go through kevlar, even with the nato steel core rounds. The rounds readily available to civs have trouble with kevlar, even with a p90. 5.7 armor penetration is extremely overrated, though yes it will go through armor with a p90. the biggest advantages are really the capacity and flat trajectory. "stopping power" with 5.7 has always been questionable, not enough data, wound ballistics suggest it sucks, but it's not commonly used in self defense so there's very little data on it. if I was SF or police, I'd stick to my 5.56 carbine.

relating to how different materials act under different temperature and pressure; for water, there is a point at room temp, at about 1/2atmospheres, water will boil, and freeze, and stay liquid at the same time
Yes, thank you for commenting this. I paused the video to check this because I would have done so myself otherwise. However, we would have to be *cough* blue *cough, cough, wink* in the face to accuse a man so knowledgeable about guns of being *cough* politically incorrect with his chemistry terms because most people do not know/remember this. Honestly, I enjoy that he doesn't explain half of the physics; I can do that myself if I really want to but it's the explosions and firearms that I enjoy. It's not about the science it's about the guns and the fact that any one of us would love to be doing the same thing AND making advertising money to pay for it all.
Hey! Use dry ice as a substitute for clay pigeons! That would be so much more rewarding than powdering a clay. It would be more like making clouds. I'm pretty sure Bird shot would help vaporize that real quick
Energy = mv²/2, so with twice the muzzle velocity of the FN 57, you get a factor of 4 times the energy of the 9mm. At 1/3 the mass, the final factor is 4/3, so the energy of the FN 57 ends up being about 1/3 more than the 9mm.
TheTacticalToaster it seems like he reuses the same table sometimes, i think mere would beat his butt if he kept having to buy a new table every time he went shooting. (in the last one you could even see he reused his old board, (plates, apple devices, now tiles. ik there's way more.
Actually, I have recently begun studying the arts of the dry ice, also known as "icimelium fres". When dry ice is fired at, it will explode and all of the contents inside will seem to evaporate, or as you said, "sublimating". BUT it is actually called salemating! I know it may seem crazy, but when you really think about it, and once you search it up you'll understand more, but you'll realize that the definition of salemating really does explain how much I made this up.
Any discussion of 5.7x28 inherently comes down to a discussion about ammo. The common ammo you find at the store is pretty neutered down and weak. The original SS190 ammo can still be obtained if you look around. Even better is Elite Ammunition's defensive loads, which really push the cartridge to show what it can do.
Some will penetrate IIIa(soft) armor, but I doubt anything but super hot handloads would do the same. Most things on the shelf will get stopped like a 9mm. (and 5.7 is a bitch to handload, so I hear.)
The 27gr bullet is the one you want to shoot into body armor, not the 40gr. .22 plinkster did a video of shooting various handgun rounds into bulletproof glass. The 27gr zipped right through, the 40 gr didn't.
The co2 from the dry ice creates an inert atmosphere so anything that burns probably wont burn. Once the bullet vaporizes the dry ice it's like a co2 fire extinguisher going off. Although titanium and magnesium will burn in an atmosphere of co2. Which I think is what the incendiary round is using. Like a powdered magnesium or something.

Not with regular gun-store 5-7 ammo. There is armor piercing ammo made for it, but us lowly civilians cannot be trusted with such ammo.
The standard ball ammo will penetrate soft kevlar when fired out of the 16" PS90. But it needs the extra barrel length to achieve penetration.

Cannon Wolfe as much as the ATF cares, yes that is how it works
This guy looks exactly like the vet ranch guy. Wow!
Same with the offtheranch guy
triplets maybe???
Marshall Brown idk probably
amoxford 2 and they have same name !!

My first initial reason to like any of his videos are because of the intro! Every single time. Lol love it man. Keep up the great work. Happy for ya.🇱🇷💪
I want to see the FiveSeven VS. .22 hornet !!!!! 5.7 is top of my wish list
Good Day Champ.
Please make an video with all your guns you own, and then choose your favorite gun of each class. Pistol revolver, etc.
Keep up the good work on all 3 channels.
How much does the shirt cost WITH the bullet hole? It's like your autograph
but then it has to be a 50Bmg bullet hole
Next challenge: How many t-shirts can Matt 'sign' at one time?
Oh, and that intro joke somehow never gets old!
lol I get guess it is Ryan.
He makes RUclips videos.....

its called sublimation when a solid converts straight to a gas skipping the liquid phase
you ever seen water at its triple point? it's pretty cool too
scubareece wut
relating to how different materials act under different temperature and pressure; for water, there is a point at room temp, at about 1/2atmospheres, water will boil, and freeze, and stay liquid at the same time
Chem 101
My Brother! Just shared this clip on Facebook 👊 thanks for your awesomeness!
11:51 all those trees are SO happy right now 🌲 Vote yes for dry ice!
No
Yesn't
Cause its CO2
@@shiroyasha4995 no shit
@@pseudonym8082 Actually, dry ice is frozen CO2.
Hey! Use dry ice as a substitute for clay pigeons! That would be so much more rewarding than powdering a clay. It would be more like making clouds. I'm pretty sure Bird shot would help vaporize that real quick
I wish u had a slow motion camera like the slo mo guys
Let's get into the meat and potatoes
And by meat and potatoes I mean
*dry ice and orange drank*
put tannerite in a raft on a lake, pond, river whatever u have and fill the rest with dry ice. then shoot. best video ever
55 gallon drum filled with dry ice with tannerite taped to the top.
Bradley Rodgers taped to the base would be better because it would send the dry ice flying because all the force will be going up
Sounds good or even directly in the middle of the drum
Bradley Rodgers in the middle of a field while a heavy rain is coming down, should be epic!
You should do a collab with the slo mo guys
He just put dry ice in his mouth. I don't think him and/or Gavin would live through the collab. But would make for good content. I second this.
I think Dan may be the only one to walk away, except he'd walk directly into a tree, then off of a cliff.
Huggsmd 1 that's actually not a bad idea because they both live in Austin...
i believe gavs talked about him on the achievement Hunter channel
Huggsmd 1 HOLY CRAP YEAH AND THEY CAN SEE A 50BMG BULLET IN SLOW MO!
this channel summed up in one sentence
“do i need to? no. do i want to? yes”
Energy = mv²/2, so with twice the muzzle velocity of the FN 57, you get a factor of 4 times the energy of the 9mm. At 1/3 the mass, the final factor is 4/3, so the energy of the FN 57 ends up being about 1/3 more than the 9mm.
I wonder how much money the store that sells those plastic tables has made off of Matt
TheTacticalToaster it seems like he reuses the same table sometimes, i think mere would beat his butt if he kept having to buy a new table every time he went shooting. (in the last one you could even see he reused his old board, (plates, apple devices, now tiles. ik there's way more.
+TheTacticalToaster This is Demolition Ranch what did you expect
I wonder how much money the gun shop made off of matt
Anthony Chudler the owner is now Bill Gates.
it's the only thing keeping them open mate :P
Hey, can you fire that FN into ballistic gel? I'd love to see what it does compared to other rounds
Taco Online The Military Arms Channel has done ballistic gel testing comparing the Five Seven, P90, and .22WMR
Taco Online it's very good at defeating armour
awesome, ill check that out.
hey could you provide a link, or do you know the date range it was posted?
Really enjoyed your show and it is nice to see the difference with amunsion.
It's not evaporating matt its sublimating
take yer booklearnin where it's welcome
i forgot that sublimation is a thing. What's it called if a gas goes straight to a solid?
Jack Dauley it's called deposition
Actually, I have recently begun studying the arts of the dry ice, also known as "icimelium fres". When dry ice is fired at, it will explode and all of the contents inside will seem to evaporate, or as you said, "sublimating". BUT it is actually called salemating! I know it may seem crazy, but when you really think about it, and once you search it up you'll understand more, but you'll realize that the definition of salemating really does explain how much I made this up.
FlyPurpleHippo Hippo HAHAHAHAHAH
Thats why hes a doctor before all you dumbasses.
i love waking up to the sound of bullets
FN 5.7 cartridge (various shooting platforms) vs. various types of BODY ARMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( PLEASE LEAVE A LIKE SO MATT SEE's THE IDEA)
SBwingman I know it will penetrate just wanna see first hand. I own one also, not too bad to load a magazine.
LinkHyrule03 only an idiot buys 2nd rate ammo
The 27gr bullet is the one you want to shoot into body armor, not the 40gr. .22 plinkster did a video of shooting various handgun rounds into bulletproof glass. The 27gr zipped right through, the 40 gr didn't.
Load dry ice into a shotgun shell. Like the old videos
It wold freze the barrel and stop the bullet sorry for the bad spelling
No
The Gaming Bros Can you also apologize for your bullshit information?
Doubt it would freeze the barrel. And even then the temperature of the barrel would not stop the bullet.
The Gaming Bros It definitely wouldn't stop the bullet haha 😂😂😂

Kinda makes me wonder...how many tables has Matt destroyed in this channel?
Sam Shumaker all of them.
Tablecide
Sam Shumaker too many and not enough
#TableLivesMatter
At least 5.
Hi Matt, try putting a piece of AR500 plate into liquid nitrogen and shoot it see what happens.
nestor1ut And then heat one up and shoot it
nestor1ut if it shatters that's gonna be reallllllllly dangerous xD
Anto Garcia true hope the raptor can take the shrapnel lol jk
Way too mainstream. cold would make the armor hard and brittle. Heat would make it "stretchier".
BlaXeD ! You're right heat it up
Shoot the dry ice in in the RAIN smoke would be crazy🇺🇸
when do you team up with the slow mo guys
Andrew Coetzee top 1 anime crossover.
yeah they're already in texas too.
Gavin Free is in Texas, so it is doable.
Andrew Coetzee i had the same question
come on everyone let him see this
Just to let you know, I was a subscriber. Then I wasn't and I couldn't find your channel at all. Now I found you again and am now I've resubscribed.
You should do it next to a body of WATER so when the ice falls on it it creates additional smoke. 👍🏻💨
FabianOlivas It's actually a gas, not smoke. See, due to the transmogrification of the flamjibrula's vector...ah, nobody gives a shit.
"You guys are literally duct taped to a window"... Not my first time pal.
Brings back memories of band Camp and Freshman Hazing
Marcus Colwell one time...in band camp...
the Five-Seven? Is this the first step to the P90??
(I hope so:) that would be heavenly!!
who needs P90 if u can just buy a Five Seven every round? One shot headshot all the time
Well the Five-Seven came after the P90 apparently.
they were created together at the same time for a NATO competition
He will one day get a scar-20 and complete the transformation into a silver 1
Probably end up being a PS-90. Yet while we are talking about FN the FS2000 would be pretty sweet to see, looks like a alien gun.
I love the care the he puts into his intros they are always great
Matt you should make a video of your guns collection
Yeah....with no shirt on ;) haha
