A great doku on a quite unique event! As we do with rc models,.. this really looks alike! Such a big vessel grounded like a model... thanks a lot for sharing! Good trips! Holger from Subwaterfilm
The area is called a tidal flat. The level of the ocean when the tide is out is greater the the elevation of the land. The reason they grounded the ship due to a number of factors like the soil not being able to hold up excavators and the like so the ship is brought in closer and allowed to ground during the low tide where you see what is going on here. The very first shot is the anchor that will be used by the Maersk to pull itself free of the flat and move towards the ocean. I'm guessing that the part of the flat that the anchor is in floods during high tide enough to allow the Maersk to float free. Cool video.
Read the comments below and you can figure this out! There are many hard, sandy tidal flats like this across the world. The ship is designed to ground itself. An HDPE conduit is installed to run the POWER cable FROM the wind FARM. LOOK-You will see it. The ship is the Connector that installs the cable to the shore station. Simple concept-extremely complicated process.
I wondered about the tide cycles. The excavators doing the pulling seemed too slow to beat the incoming tide. In one shot they showed some initial flowing of water coming in (I guess)- so did the excavators have to rush to the land to get out of the rising tide and then return the next day or that evening to get another hitch on the cable? Was this done all in one pull? Why couldn't the landward cable wench do all the pulling? I guess the video was all about the grounding. I did not understand the long tidal flat. It looked the same level all over even toward the ocean. What was the depth difference where the ship grounded vs some other location. Was it hard to get the ship back to floating or did they have trouble breaking suction? Inquiring minds want to know.
I believe they are making the connection to land for an undersea telecommunication cable. After the tide comes back in the ship will lay the rest of the cable under the sea to its destination beach front.

And, by the way,.. a short question: How did they keep up the watercooling of the engines?
Thanks and best wishes,
Holger

If the Science channel did a show on this I would watch it because I really would like to know what’s going on.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who didn't know what was happening
Great video. I saw the ship and have many photos of it off Broadstairs in Kent.
Laying electrical power cables for off shore wind farm. It’s off Coast morcome the tide goes out for miles in the bay
I understood nothing about what's going on, just shots of a cable and a ship =_=
Athanas Iliev but amazingly well shot ones.

Using high tide and low tide timings, Subsea Power Cable connectivity from Onshore terminal to Offshore location. Is it HVDC cable?
... thanks, must hold the record for a shallow water shore pull :)
I don't even know if I'm looking at mud or ocean

How long was the duration of low tide? When the tides came in, what happened to the operation?
Such a nice uninformative video...

nuthinleicadane 🤣🤣🤣
same I have no fuking clue what's going on here.
Is the cable left on the rollers? Do they remove the rollers and bury the cable later on?
Did they drain the ocean? wtf is going on? lol
Skinny Mcdoogin no they simply waited for low tide
I seriously hope your joking for your sake
Video is not informative in anyway, why would be be joking.
Reece
still a idiotic question
For real though...
yep same.. not a goddamn clue of what's going on.
You all got it wrong it's a new beer line to my beer fridge eat your heart out
Don Kinzett shame then, cause we've tapped into 👍😉 cheers for the beer 😂
Wheres the water?

Too many dramatic shots and not nearly enough Show & Tell in this video.
Does the Connector have self cooled generation or were air cooled generating units on deck?
Just take it easy on that free beer Dave and don't drink and drive. You might spill some ha ha
I'll phone these guys next time I need an extension wired-in...! ;D
Hello. Tell me, why are they doing this? What will happen on this connector? What is it for?
it lays pipe for natural gas lines and power lines there u go
wow, how did you dry the ocean to do that?
water1oo first step is a really big straw 😂
How many miles of cable was this?
That was a weird video did someone pull the drain plug where did the water go lol!
big job on!
An explanation for the common man would not hurt. Or is it to hell with the common man?
Laying of fiber optics and other communication systems on the sea floor.
hawk7825, they are actually laying power lines for a new major windfarm in the Irish Sea after looking at the schedule for this ship.
Did they dry out the ocean ? Wtf
Is that a ship on land or ice or what
My dad works in deep ocean!!!!!!!
That's cool.

Nice bhai
Pra que serve esse cabo?
Qual a função de tanto trabalho?
COMUNICAÇÃO POR CABO ÓTICO. O QUE PODERIA SE CHAR DE SATÉLITE. POIS SATELITE NA PRATICA NÃO EXISTE. PESQUISE E VAI ENCONTRAR A VERDADE
ESSES CABOS VÃO PARA OUTROS CONTINENTES ?
It's a Power cable!
not that we could tell without some reasearch
Is that a telegram line
Music gives ya head ache!! Much rather hear whats going on !!!
That looked cheap....and easy. 😓
Lol. Wind farms on ocean need a way to send electricity to land.... they are laying extension cord.....
I'm confused, think I'll pron.
Erm what?
I'll say the same thing as everyone else: Wtf is going on in this video...?
well i wish i could get that chunk of time back, cause that was a total fucking waste
