  • Civil rights activist Rosa Parks (February 4, 1913 to October 24, 2005) refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated Montgomery, Alabama bus, which spurred on the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott that helped launch nationwide efforts to end segregation of public facilities. The city of Montgomery had no choice but to lift the law requiring segregation on public buses. Rosa Parks received many accolades during her lifetime, including the NAACP's highest award. #Biography

      @@dalezegarelli5553 Rosa Parks is not a "fake". She did something extremely courageous and stood up for rights that should've been given to black americans long ago. While Claudette Colvin also deserved recognition for her protest nine months earlier, they are both important figures and moments in the civil rights movement. There isn't a shred of credible evidence that says the Rosa Parks incident was staged(although the famous photo probably was). You are exerting your passion and energy into the wrong issue my friend. You are whining about corruption among civil rights leaders and who was the "real hero" while mass oppression and discrimination has hindered the black community long before either woman refused to give up her seat. Don't be so transparent and pathetic in trying to deflect the issue.

      @anapassos9037 4 года назад +3

      icanswim70 dear, no disrespect to Rosa Parks, but she is known in United States not by the rest of the world. Each country have their own history and their own important public figures. Only a few get to be known by billions by getting into the common sense kind of knowledge. I’m sure she is part of the common sense in America. I’m not saying this to disrespect her, but as a fact. People know the history and the heroes of their own country. I live for a while in USA and this always bothers me, when Americans put their heroes as world heroes, and there are not, they are American’s heroes. I know this may seems like a lot of criticism for such a small comment, but I’m saying this for you to reflect. Because I have been in situations where Americans felt insulted because I didn’t know someone, but they don’t know the important public figures of other countries. And that is normal, and that is ok, because every place has its own history and it’s own heroes. It’s just a bit upsetting when Americans do that, treat their heroes as being world heroes, it diminish the important figures other places have it. Example: I’m Brazilian, in Brazil my heroes are the people who fought against the dictatorship that ended in the late eighties. I know people who was tortured by the military policy. The university in my city changed the numbers of the classrooms so the soldiers would be lost, for the identification number of the rooms was completely random. They made the halls a labyrinth, so the soldiers wouldn’t find the room the meetings were happening. Again, I’m not diminishing her importance, specially for USA civil rights issues. To be honest I already regret writing this, but I already wrote it so... I’m almost sure people will misinterpreted what I’m trying to say. Just reflect about this. Be humble, understand each place has its own heroes.

      Great message. In short, Rosa was not first and was not unique. I am pleased that Rosa Parks was willing to stand against Democrat racism and segregation (the only kind that has ever been systematized in America). Unfortunately, as with most Democrat messaging - erroneous, misleading - her story was neither the first of its kind nor unique. See Claudette Colvin, and even earlier and more importantly, Ida B. Wells.

      AOC with her glasses on looks a little like Rosa Parks, but comparing the two women would be an insult to Ms Parks

    I'm her biggest fan, she was so brave and courageous. Yes she had every right to sit, and how dare the policemen arrest her for breaking the (stupid) laws of racism when they themselves were breaking the basic human rights?

    Some weeks ago, I was in near constant pain from a back injury, walking with a cane. My wife and I shared an Uber ride with a young black woman, who offered me her seat (which would require her to take one at the back of the car), but thinking about Rosa Parks made me pause. I couldn't allow that in good conscience! For lack of a better answer, I told her, "I am a gentleman, you are a lady, and you get to keep your seat." And I sat at the rear.
