    As a former Zenzone 9 user, The camera lens not being aligned with each other defeats the whole design of the body. You need a case that adds bulk but fixes the lens alignment and the bezel is horrible. I wasn't happy with the camera quality and sold mine after finding out it only had 2 years of software support. I bought an S23 and overall I'm very happy. Only thing I miss on the Zenfone is the battery life (can easily go a day and a half on a single charge) and side fingerprint sensor.

      I feel like OS updates have become less and less of a selling point over time. I had the same initial reaction as you, but as I thought about it, when was the last time Google introduced a new feature that impacted my experience? Usually when they do, it's something negative and Samsung had to correct it in OneUI. This isn't like the Oreo days when a lot of new things were being added. Android versions are pretty stable these days and most of what changes is behind the scenes.

      So what exactly do you do on your phone that requires the bleeding edge Android with its 5 minor changes Google makes to it every year???
      Last time I checked, there is very little difference to user experience between Android 10 and 13, the only argument here is if Google brings something big like Native Desktop Mode to Android 14 which would be a HUGE feature.

    I'm waiting for Pixel 8 & check out some comparisons between Zenfone 10, Galaxy S23, & Pixel 8. So far, the S23 seems like an overall better package, especially with the cameras & image post-processing. I'm hoping Pixel 8 will blow things out of the water, however I'm also concerned about overheating issues their Tensor G3 chipset, since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset does not overheat on the S23 (and I'm guessing also on Zenfone 10).

    I feel like the Zenfone 10 is where the series is beginning to plateau
    the Sony IMX766 as the main camera sensor feels outdated for a 2023 flagship, yet there's not enough space to fit in newer sensors like the IMX888 (Sony Xperia 1 V) or IMX890 (Oppo N2 Flip)
    Not to mention Asus was forced to use the ROG Phone 7's ultrawide & selfie cam sensors as internim because Sony isnt making the Zenfone 9's UW & selfie sensors anymore, so the 10's UW and selfie perform worse than the 9's
    In order for the Zenfone 11 to be able to move forward with new camera sensors for all 3 cameras, I think they'll need to do one of these things:
    * Somehow engineer a much smaller gimbal solution for the main cam
    * Reduce battery size
    * *Slightly* enlarge the 11, even moving to a 6 inch screen should still keep the 11 less than 7cm wide

But until then Zenfone is king of the niche! Also I personally find it beautiful. So it's absolutely attractive in many ways.

      @@billieguitarUnfortunately you forgot about the srsly not good update support. 2 years for a 800 bucks and more phone is ridiculous. Same with Motorola flagship phones for example. I expect a bit more than that, if they want us customers to open our wallets. 🤷 I wouldn't mind more compact phones either btw.! No idea why companies are selling Smartphones almost as big as tablets nowadays.

    Why is going on with GSM Arena these days? Saying it's a good camera when absolutely every other reviewer out there is saying that the camera isn't good enough, that it's the weakest part of the phone & that it's nowhere near flagship level!

    • @billieguitar
      @billieguitar Год назад +5

      They arent the best cameras, that's a sure thing. But are they bad though? Also I think this video was fair, it pointed out issues like oevrsaturated colors and oversharoening. Which by the way touches on another subject, how modern phone camera sensors arent much different in the amount and quality if information they capture. How each manufacturer chooses to tune the lately overall extremely strong processing however changes the final look and feel of a picture A LOT. And instead of going for color/gamma accuracy, manufacturers strive for striking, eye catching, attention grabbing, bold. Fake clarity, "enhanced" colors, PERCIEVED detail. And because that is deviating completely from objective, scientific quality and accuracy - there is an artistic element to how manufacturers tune that processing. So as strange as it is, it's nowadays NORMAL to NOT have a verifiable consensus on which phone camera is *actually technically* the "best". Differently tuned processing will be subjectively differently pleasing to each person!!! And people, including me, who are used to professional camera equipment and editing raw data themselves dislike MOST modern phone camera results. They are too obviously artificial.

      @@billieguitarYes they are bad. It's acceptable for a budget range phone but not flagship pricing. As another reviewer put it, they're years in development behind Samsung & Apple but charging the same prices. GSM Arena used to be very thorough but now does a McDonald's drive thru version of reviews. It seems to be all a one-man band now, so maybe that's the reason? I don't know. Other reviewers just do a much better job these days. GSM reviewed a S21 a few years ago. Said the battery life was very good. I bought one. Battery life was terrible. Went on the Web & thousands of people were similarly complaining of awful S21 battery life. It's like GSM tests have just become automated & no real-life measurements are taken.

      @frankmcelhill9379 I guess you had different expectations from GSM. Their main thing is their website which is like a well documented index for phone specs and kinda there with related review and price scraping. Consumer-focused real-life, scenario and usage based testing has never really been their forte or focus as far as I've followed their path. They seem to draw conclusions based off specs more than anything else. Which isn't wrong to do, just has to be taken with a grain of salt because virtually nobody uses their phone in the exact same way all the time and further, in line with what specs would suggest.

      I just read somewhere that it should drive regular small impedance earphones no problem but it doesn't have anything special that would be powerful enough to drive 150 ohm headphones and above. IE300 should be fine

    I think next year to spice things up a little bit , Asus should introduce a bigger screen version for those who want a big screen at least 6.3 i think we would see it appeal more to the masses. I know they have been known for their signature of small powerful mini phones, but they need to introduce other models as well.

      Im guessing Asus isnt popular enough to compete directly with other manufacturers? So they focus on filling a precise niche instead. Though I would also love to see more models from them.

    Am I the only one who thinks ASUS is a total crap? I bought Asus 8 four times, because I needed the call recording feature and the 3mm-jack which no other phone offered. All four times the phone kept turning itself off randomly with my headset in, no matter what. I spent literally months trying to fix it (1000x re-installations, warranty repairs, replacements etc.). Then, I bought the brand new ASUS 9 and from the very begining calling over the headset was a disaster, I sent it in for ASUS warranty repair after a month and they told me that it was my fault, that the 3.5 mm jack and the USD port was corroded therefore the mike was crackling! On a 68 IP phone! ASUS said the warranty does never cover any water damage even though the phone is waterproof! They said my brand new phone, which I had bought a few weeks ago, had corroded ports and I was to blame! (I had never immersed the phone in water like you did in your video) What a joke ASUS service is! Never again. Now I bought Samsung Galaxy S23 (had to pay for special installation od the call recording feature and the 3.5 mm jack-USB adapter) but I am happy, not problems whatsover, finally a phone that is reliable.
