Hi Asmat! Yes, Stockholm & Sweden were absolutely beautiful, and this was my favorite day of our trip because I enjoyed Djurgärden and Skansen so much! Thank you for watching & commenting 💙💛💙
Hi there Steamboat Willie! Oh wow, Carl Bellman was a composer, not a poet. That was my mistake. I'm reading his Wikipedia page right now, and you're right, he did both but sounds like he was more heavily involved with music than just plain poetry. How sad that he didn't get to see how popular his music became 200 years later. Thank you so much for sharing! I always know if a statue was made of someone, they must be really important and definitely worth exploring a little further.
@@michaelandjulie Well, he is Swedens most well-known bard, still. If you search on youtube for one of his songs, like "märk hur vår skugga" (Was made into a hit in 1985 by the rockband "Imperiet" and reached no. 2. It's been covered in English by "Candlemass", "Marduk" and the US metal band 'While Heaven Wept') you'll find dozens of recordings by various artists. One song of his have been performed by students since the 1700's. (Fredmans song no. 21, or "Så lunka vi...")
I will look this up!!! Usually when I can't sleep at night, I start looking things up that I heard about during the day on RUclips, so hopefully by tomorrow I will have heard of this song and can give you a better reply than this. Thank you so much! What a great resource you will be! I appreciate the offer very much and will absolutely take you up on it, especially whenever it comes time we are lucky enough to start thinking of making another trip to Sweden! :)
Very nice to follow along! Once again, you seem to see beyond the surface/touristy things and it's nice to see a more personalized and detailed vlog. Really hope you enjoyed it, even though it wasn't the Medieval museum (that sadly closed in november anyway, they are planning on moving it) and that Skansen doesnt let you have a day pass (a bit stingy). I hope you got to see some other christmas market, maybe the one in Gamla stan (Old Town)? Thanks for a lovely video! ☺
Hi there Guinevere! Thank you so much for checking out these videos & commenting, I always enjoy hearing from locals. My friends & I chose to do this trip walking the entire time, which did limit how far we were able to go, but we felt like we were able to thoroughly see the places we went. We did see them setting up the Gamla Stan Christmas market on our last day, which was nice. Stockholm is such an absolutely beautiful city, so clean, so walkable.. part of the reason we chose to walk everywhere was how wide, clean, & nice the public sidewalks are. By far the most walkable city I’ve ever been to! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video, we did have an amazing trip and I hope I’m able to come back again soon. There is so much in Sweden I would love to see!! Skål!! 💙💛🩵💛💙
@@michaelandjulie Hi Julie! I'm glad I found you, I like your pace and tone, if that makes sense. Relaxed, intelligent and aware (like more deep cut and real attention to detail) and so pleasant at the same time. Also the first American tourists I've seen that opted to walk the whole time, that is kind of impressive when it would have been so easy to hop on any mode of public transport, and it being winter too! Not even Swedes would do that! Like you say, you got to take in the surroundings and details more, soak it all in. So glad you did and enjoyed it. ☺Really happy that the land of Pippi Longstocking didn't dissapoint! You are so welcome back and see more, and if there is ever something you want tips on before or during another visit I would be glad to help. If you like history and medieval times Gotland and Visby would be great, and there is also Pippis house, well as a part of an amusement park, but they filmed the actual films there too (in Visby). Cheers! 💙❤🤍💙💛
Hi Guinevere! Wow, thank you so much for the compliments on the how I did the videos, I'm so honored that you enjoyed them so much! I can't say enough how amazing Stockholm was and how much I enjoyed every minute of my time there. We arrived planning to purchase a metro pass or use public transit the whole time, but as soon as we realized how walkable your city is, we knew we had to take advantage of that. Not all cities in the US are anywhere near this nice and walkable. Charlotte, North Carolina, where I used to live, was nice downtown; but the neighborhoods had poorly maintained sidewalks or even none. Where I live in Melbourne, Florida, the sidewalks are mostly extremely narrow and in bad shape. I just gaped at how wide, clean, and smooth the sidewalks were in Stockholm and knew right away I was going to walk as much as possible haha. We did check out the metro system on our last day there because we'd heard about all the artwork in the stations, and that was really cool! But ultimately, even if it meant we maybe saw fewer things, we were all 3 glad that we chose to walk the whole trip. As cold as it was in November, the exercise helped keep us warm. Plus it meant we could enjoy a few extra cinnamon buns! :). By the way, I thought I knew what a good cinnamon bun was before this trip, but I haven't eaten one since I came home. Sweden OWNS cinnamon buns!!!!! Wow! :)

Oh wow how cool! I didn't learn anything about it being haunted when we were there. Do you know the story behind who's haunting it or how many times people have had encounters in that house? I'd love to know more about this!
@@michaelandjulie Well, I don't know specifically who... in another house I know, but not this one. It might be more than one since I personally know of about ten incidents that I've got directly from the witnesses... and one instance I was part of myself. :-)

Thank you for correcting my mistake! :). It definitely looks like it would function as a community court house better than a family home haha.
@@michaelandjulie Well, it was about half the family home of the magistrate and his servants in winter. Just like the post office was both home for the Postmaster, and office of the Royal Postal Service.
oh cool! Very interesting! I think "back in the day," a lot of homes doubled as the workspace of the family's business. In the US, it was common for families to live in the upstairs floor of funeral homes!
Hi there, Ronger! Do you call these seals in Sweden? I thought they were what we call river otters in the US. If I’m wrong, please let me know! They sure were cute! 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Yes, ”säl” in Swedish. You call them seals in the US as well. I think this is a harbor seal. We have three species of seal in Sweden (also grey seals and ringed seals). Otters have more of a dog’s nose and visible ears. 🇸🇪 ”utter”
You are right! Whoops my bad, I looked them up side by side and these are definitely seals haha. Thank you for the correction! I can’t fix the video without reuploading it, but hopefully people will see this comment and realize my error. They are so cute regardless! Where in Sweden do you find them living naturally? Anywhere near Stockholm? 💙💛💙
Yes, they are cute, aren’t they? The harbor seal is knubbsäl in Swedish, which translates to chubby seal. 😁 We have seals along the entire coastline of Sweden. I think the harbor seal is mainly found on the west coast and the southern Baltic. You can see grey seals in the Stockholm archipelago and ringed seals in the northern Baltic. Can’t remember last time I saw a seal in the wild, though.
Small typo Djurgården. Djurgärden (which to my knowledge doesn't exist) translates as _Animal fields_ while I guess Djurgården would be _The animal farm_ though the real meaning is closer to _The fenced hunting ground_ where a king and his entourage in the 1500s could enjoy some hunting, or more like shooting fish in a barrel really. Ä think Bear, Å more like in Raw.
Hi there, Anders! Oops, my mistake, you are right, I did misspell Djurgården. I will fix this immediately! Thank you very kindly for pointing out my mistake and for the language lesson. That’s very interesting! The garden was so beautiful and I really enjoyed getting to spend some time here. Thank you so much for watching my video, I really hope you enjoyed it 💙💛💙

Hi there, Robert! I found this song on a website called Pixabay in a search for Scandinavian, Viking, Swedish, Nordic, etc music. I recognize the song also! It is a hymn in English also, and I remember it from when I was going to church as a child. I just cannot place what the song is called though, and I don't remember any of the words unfortunately to help me search it. Could you tell me what it's called in Swedish, and maybe I could look it up that way? I can hum the song from start to finish, but not one of the words is coming to me unfortunately. I hope you enjoyed watching the video!
It's hymn 391 Blott en dag, translated to Day By Day. It was around the massive emigration, I guess, so it may well have travelled to America early on!
You and your snow. 😂 spooky old tree is cool!! And another! Don’t see many hollow trees around here. The statues you filmed are pretty interesting, and the explanation to the one in the museum, interesting read. I’d heard about removing or covering the male genitals before. New info about females statues though. Once again, loved the architecture. And I understand you weren’t focused on it but still really good shots. Looking forward to the warship vlog, that was a very interesting lead up to that story. Thanks Julie!! Loving these!❤
Hi Mustang! This was my favorite day in Sweden, so obviously the most fun day to vlog and edit. It's hard to believe how much we packed into one full day! I'm still working on the Vasa vlog. I only took 9 minutes of footage in the museum, and then I scripted out what I wanted to say about the Vasa, and it's like 20 minutes of talking! So somehow I have to cut the script down (there's not one thing I want to take out of it!) or stretch the footage out. Who knows, I'll figure something out! Hoping to get that video out in March also. I'm so pleased you're enjoying the Sweden videos!!!
I’m sure you’ll figure it out, please don’t cut the script down though. We want to hear all of your thoughts as we see the Vasa. Even if you have to loop or use slow motion. Will still be worth it I’m sure. Love you got a fan in Sweden too!! ☺️

Beautiful place🎉
Hi Asmat! Yes, Stockholm & Sweden were absolutely beautiful, and this was my favorite day of our trip because I enjoyed Djurgärden and Skansen so much! Thank you for watching & commenting 💙💛💙
07:25 Carl Michael Bellman was mainly a composer. One of his songs reached the number one in the Swedish charts almost 200 years after his death.
I'd love to hear it in Swedish and English, if the words are translated closely. I have really appreciated all of your comments and how much I am learning from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to send me these recommendations!
@@michaelandjulie No problem. Anything you want to know that I can answer is yours.
Wow! :)
Sorry to step in here, but just wanted to say it’s so nice to see these comments Guinevere! I’ve been following Julie and Michael just for a little while now and love their vlogs. You are so correct in how well Julie presents all that she sees. You have beautiful country! And this is another American that is enjoying seeing it. ☺️
@@Mustang-6-The-Force That's quite ok! Thank you so much, that is so sweet of you! I immediately liked their style (I have now mostly watched these with Julie though) and they stand out in the best of ways to me, so natural, insightful and pleasant for the senses, she captures it all so well (since I know every place she shows here). I am so glad you enjoy it too, you both make me so happy and thankful! All the best from me and Sweden!
Finally someone else went to Aifur, a lot of vloggers miss that place. And you stumbled upon it!
Hi there, Nekotaku! Haha thanks, I for sure put in my research before going on this trip so I would have as many places as possible to check out while I was there. Wow, Stockholm has to much to see and do!!! My friends & I had an absolutely awesome time there. I knew Aifur was a can’t-miss and am so glad I got to go. The food was probably the best food I had in Stockholm, and the music was awesome. So glad I found this place!! Thank you so much for watching & commenting. I always appreciate hearing from other people who’ve been there! 💙💛💙
@@michaelandjulie I haven't been there yet but I wanna go for sure. (I'm Swedish)
I hope you get to to check it out soon! I had never had reindeer meet before this trip, and this place was my first reindeer. Absolutely delicious! Where in Sweden do you live? 💛💙💛
@@michaelandjulie A bit south. Reindeer is very yummy.
I hope I can find anywhere in the States to have reindeer! I have had "Swedish meatballs" here at a nice steakhouse, but they were obviously made with beef instead of reindeer. They were good, but they were just not the real deal!
17:08 That little house, "Kyrkhultsstugan", is the most haunted house on Skansen.
WOW that is so cool!! I've never done any ghost hunting or anything, and any paranormal experiences I've ever had were confined to my years working night shift in a hospital. I'd love to know more if you want to share your stories. I love haunted adventures!
@@michaelandjulie Yes, of course!
12:45 Eh.. Ekshäradsgården isn't really a farmhouse... it's a court house.
Oh interesting! I thought I got the fact that it was a farmhouse from the sign out front, although I was taking pictures and videos at the same time and maybe the picture went with a different building than I thought it did when I got back home and was editing.
15:47 Seals though. 😁
We have seals along the entire coastline of Sweden. I think the harbor seal is mainly found on the west coast and the southern Baltic. You can see grey seals in the Stockholm archipelago and ringed seals in the northern Baltic. Can’t remember last time I saw a seal in the wild, though.
…and technically you never claimed that these were otters, like “these are clearly seals, and by the way, otters are my spirit animal”
Thank you so much for watching my video, I really hope you enjoyed it 💙💛💙
At 18.05,Gröna Lund, where it happened an accident with 1 of the rides 1 person,a woman, lost her life and 6 or 7 were injured & had to go to Hospital. After that tragic accident they lost visitors for a while.
Hi there, Swedeman! My visit to Stockholm was in November of last year, and I was thinking the park must be closed for the winter season. That is a terrible tragedy to hear about. I looked up the story after I read your comment to learn more. I'm so sorry to hear about that. Thank you for watching the video and sharing some new information with me. I always like feedback on my videos, but hearing from Swedish people really makes my day, thank you! 💙💛💙
@@michaelandjulie You re welcome,as you americans say :-)
🇺🇸 🇸🇪 💙💛💙
16. 00 the song is very similar to an old swedish psalm.
@@Mustang-6-The-Force Hi again! Sorry for butting in Mustang - I just want to say I second that! Maybe you can use some stills or a minute or two from some YT-video on Vasa or the time period (that is free to use)? Fotage from when they raised her from the water? Maybe you only want to use your own fotage though. Talk over showing a sign? Thinking out loud a bit... Hi from your new Swedish fan! I'm sure there are more... 😎
@@GuinevereKnightNo need to feel sorry Guinevere, you’ve given Julie great ideas!
Those are great ideas!!! Let me see what I can do here. I didn't want to use anyone else's work just in case it upset anyone. I received a strike on my channel one time just for uploading a video of me playing an Andrew Lloyd Webber song on the piano, and it was an arrangement I made myself! LOL. I think if I slow the footage down a little I can make it work, just hope that doesn't make anyone sea sick! The VASA has such an AWESOME & unique history, truly one of the coolest museums I've ever seen in my life!
Aaand...somewhere there, where you filmed this.. .lives Benny ,1 of ABBA :-)
Hi there, oh wow how awesome is that!! I had no idea I filmed the house of a member of Abba! I certainly meant no invasion of privacy, we were just taking pictures and video of beautiful homes we saw from the sidewalks on our trip. ABBA is such an amazing group, their music is awesome!!!! 💙💛💙
@@michaelandjulie Hi ! I did nt say you filmed his house, but he lives in that area :-) And yes,its crazy,ABBAs song are as popular today as when they recorded them :-)
@@michaelandjulie And Björn,the other ABBA member used to live in a BIG house near the Lake/Sea,but he sold it and moved into a big apartment in the exlusive part of Central Stockholm, about 2 yrs ago ?
Oh okay, very interesting! I'm actually kind of glad I didn't film the house. I'd hate for anybody to think I was trying to sneak up on a member of ABBA! We were just out for a walk, waiting for the museums to open up at 10:00am, and taking sidewalks through beautiful neighborhoods. We visited so many beautiful neighborhoods on this trip, but Djurgården was probably my favorite. So lovely!
It just crossed ny mind, you look like someone..AND,you are SO look-alike 1 of the guest stars in Australian tv-drama-show,McLeods Daughters, last Episode, she wanted to join "The Fire Rescue Unit" when they had practise..I don t know her name but you have "same face" to 90% ! :-)
Hi there Swedeman! My MacBook keeps autocorrecting your name to "Sweden" every time I type "Swedeman", so apologies if this comment pops up incorrectly. I've never heard of this show! Maybe I can find it on one of our streaming apps or RUclips? I'd really like to see my doppelgänger. I've been told I look like people before and of course I didn't see the resemblance at all haha. I like to think I look a little bit like Princess Victoria, but that might be all wishful thinking on my part :)
I love you
