The first time I heard this song, I thought he was saying "Big Mac, _rice_ to go". Obviously, now I know he's saying fries - but I've actually had a Big Mac with rice on the side and it is a match made in heaven. So delicious, you have no idea.
Meus 19 anos... fiz rolo nesse vinil a uns 20 anos atrás e por sorte consegui um outro zeradinho a pouco tempo. Ouvir esse disco em vinil faz toda diferença.
lipps ic. , salt n pepa, the creatures, the osmonds...the twilight zone, iggy and the stooges, the beastie boys plus a few others i don't recognize..def con one...!!!
I remember first hearing this while working the doors in a Perth nightclub called The Loft in early 90's. This great song along with many others made this an awesome weekend hangout.
Sunday, February 28, 2010 Long live PWEI! RIP Vileevils long live PWEI GRAHAM CRABB LAUNCHES NEW FUTURE FOR POP WILL EAT ITSELF Iconic Band’s Principal Songwriter and Co-Frontman Revives PWEI
@andinoble thanx dude, i looked up the song and i dont recognize it but its really beautiful. those movies came out a tad bit before i was old enough to care about the media. but yeah, i'll make sure i'll check out those movies and once again thank you =)
I doubt many lasses know who the Poppies are. They we're a little before my time but I still remember being 15 year old sitting in the back of a clapped out Ford Escort cruising around the country roads with my friends every night. We had a brown McDonald's tray on the back shelf covered in rizla packets and snapped tabs and the Poppies was always blasting from the Ford tape player. We spent a full summer doing that. Can't believe 'Harry Dean Stanton' isn't on here but it will be in 5min.
ten years or maybe more.Norman was a mere former Housemartin at the time! Poppies were underplayed, under appreciated & always f'in awesome to watch. The Prodigy hadn't even started,so you could say PWEI were a helping hand to the Prodge's ascent.........
Saw them when they played the Harp Rock Week at the Town & Country Club (now the forum) in Kentish Town during 1988, live they were amazing and tore the place up big time, Only VOTB who played a show the same week, at the same venue, could raise a crowd into such a frenzy. The show was filmed for tv, so should be out there some where.
I accidentaly saw Poppies last year. They were fucking awesome. Chatted to graham after, who tactfully said that 'Clint had better things to do' nowadays.... :)
It's one of the older single versions pre-This is the Day... This has been reissued on the expanded Box Frenzy. I think this one directly samples I Wanna Be Your Dog whereas the later version has the guitars played live.
There were so many samples on this - The Stooges (I Wanna Be Your Dog), The Creatures (Right Now), Lipps Inc. (Funkytown), The Osmonds (Crazy Horses), Beastie Boys (Time To Get Ill), The Twilight Zone theme and I'm pretty sure the marching feet at the end are from Holidays In The Sun by the Sex Pistols......
I just read your response to me from last year...you don't recall whom being in the novel? I simply said that PWEI should have been in the "Watchmen" soundtrack
@02476 don't you think that this song was not only a cynical pisstake of McDonalds use of military imagery then and that it also certainly implied having the munchies? This is the late 80s - the cold war was not a distant memory but very much a threat. To use Def Con One as a selling point for your fast food seems inappropriate and it makes sense that PWEI would have a go at that. But that's what I love about British bands - they can do stuff that is both hilarious fun and viciously critical.
Try about three....years and you're close. They weren't pioneers of electronic music, but they were definitely the pioneers of hybrid sounds. No matter which way you shake it. They smashed punk and hip-hop together. It was awful. But they did it for everyone else.
without pop will eat itself there would not be a prodidgy. this band are so important, you should feel privilaged to listen to them
What a wonderful song!!!!
I loved listening to this in the indie clubs of the early 90's awesome.

Ah, I like the sampling. The Creatures and The Stooges.
These definitely used to listen to B.A.D
Get me Big Mac, fries to go and..The twilight Zone!
Such a pity the audio quality is so trashed. Miss the days of the poppies.
The revenge of Leicester Polytechnical [sic] - Mark E Smith
I'm curious there seems to be a lot of sampling in this, what did they use?
Stitching together samples long before Fat Boy Slim was popular.
Lol Thanks!
Dez para o dia do juízo final, movendo-se rápido .
I just read your response to me from last year...you don't recall whom being in the novel?

Sampling Funkytown = awesome
Reminds me alot of Marilyn Manson 89-95 :)
Try and say that as fast as he does “Give me Big Mac give me fries to go.” You can’t.
@Tillytotuk was that in manchester m8 i was there every week
@7rollface I'm almost 100% certain there are no references to Big Macs in Watchmen.
Ahh different mix from the album version...I dunno if I can get down with it

I was very disappointed that the producers of the movie "Watchmen" did not use the Poppies on the soundtrack at all...
DEFCON 5 is best for our world !. :-)
But DEFCON 1 PWEI F CKEN ROCKS !!!.
yeah, I wanna be your dog. But I donno if it's from the album version, it sounds different
Blaises nightclub in Middlebrough, 1990. Crap beer, cool girls in Docks and cardies. Bliss.

PWEI rocks!
Vote Doctor Doom! It's the only choice!
Give me a big mac please and oh yeah some fries to go
Bit of funky town in there as well after the stooges riff... Think that's the idea though..
Someone had obviously been watching the films of Jeff Keen.
