    Thanks Annie,
    Just checked the last 10 day trend from the 17th - it was pretty much as forecast.
    A bit later into that forecast period, we all got a bit excited about this current week being sunny, especially in the south east, but it hasn't quite panned out that way.
    It's been warm, but annoyingly cloudy. I guess very hard to forecast that.
    Earlier this week I was quite happy with the forecast for the week, but it hasn't been marvellous - and I've been lucky where I live to get some of the best of it.
    🤞this 10 day forecast is as accurate as the last.

    Has there ever been a worst summer especially in Scotland?

    • @pipoo1
      @pipoo1 2 месяца назад

      1985! Nothing has ever been worse than 1985. We lived on a farm in Aberdeenshire at the time and I have vivid childhood memories of the craters left in the fields behind our house where the combines sank into the ground at various places. Not only that it was the same summer our house was struck by lightning during an extraordinarily severe storm in the middle of the afternoon in early August.

    Any chance of a chart showing sunshine levels across the UK for this year please? It's been mostly overcast all year so far in the mid Central Belt, with just the occasional sunny day like yesterday. Cannot remember a year like it in the past 60ish years.

    Scientific and succinct, that is what I like in this presenter's delivery. Conscise and precise. That is what we expect from the Met Office, not what we are expected to feel about the weather. We don't need either drama nor dramatists. We want clean reports. Strictly info, no emo. Reports are objective, That is their value, impact is subjective, some other channel might deal with that, but not the Met Office. The Met Office should offer Objective content and refrain/abstain from therapy. It is the weather.

    Thank you for this ten day trend! When you show the different frontal systems, they all have different colours and symbols like half moons or triangles. Perhaps you could explain these different systems in one of your next deep dives? That would be very interesting I believe. 👍

      Red semicircles = warm front.
      Blue triangles = cold front.
      A mix of these indicates a mixed (occluded) front.

    Thanks for the stats of 50% of July's average sunshine so far. Helps confirm that I should get about 140kWh/kWp for the whole of July rather than the measly 70kWh/kWp so far!

    Sunnier in the South but cloudy and rainy for the North and no doubt " uncertainty " how far South that could be
    With all the gloom, the rain Its heartening to know water companies want to massively increase their prices

    Half the amount of sun!! Where?? The SW has been grey and raining bar a few days in July. Next week we'll be told it's a heatwave again. So the SE represents the UK now?

    • @metoffice
      @metoffice  2 месяца назад +3

      The UK as a whole has had 55% of the monthly sunshine, where as the SW of England and S Wales have had a little more, 57% of their monthly average. SE England has had 56%. So the UK statistic actually represents both the E and W quite well.

      @@metofficewhat is the sunshine percentage figure for South Western Scotland? Every day has been mostly an overcast sky forbye an odd fleeting glimpse of sunshine here and there. Yesterday was the best day all month with sunshine all day until about 6pm when the cloud came in again and, as I write this, it’s grey, dreary and dank low cloud with smirry rain.

    It's good to have access to a weather forecast from meteorologists instead of the BBC presenters, most with just 'a bit of training', and relying on data from the Met Office, in any event,
