When Nico lost her arm and went full OP with her magic, was an amazing moment!
Just got the midnight sun's game and honestly it's so damn good so far. Brought me here
This is one of the most underrated comic channels on the internet! Great vibes, great energy and really knowledgeable on comic lore!
I love Nico so much, I just hate that gave her a great arc and powered up her magic, only to retcon her progression back with time travel. That being said, I do like that she can now use magic the normal way, but it did kind of come out of nowhere. Even the Hulu series saw the benefit of allowing Nico to develop her magical talent (with and without the staff) on screen and took the time to show that development. I literally would've just bought a whole side book about that.
Did they take away her awesome powers in the comics too? If so that’s bs tbh
@@RylansVoice Yes. Which is sad because The Runaways in the comics are a rare case of comicbook characters that do actually grow and change over time. They all started out as young teenagers (except Molly who was a young child in the comics) in volume 1, and by volume 6 they are young adults (Molly is a teen now) dealing with young adult life.
Nico gained a lot of upgrades throughout volumes 1-5, and a few crossover books. Namely, an upgraded staff, a magically prosthetic arm, a new type of blood magic to power her staff, and more powerful spells. But all of that was retconned in volume 6 (might've been 5, it's been a minute).
But like I said, unlike the Hulu/FreeForm series, comic book Nico never really delved into learning magic without her staff. A recent issue in volume 6 confirmed she can learn the basics, but that's nothing compared to TV Nico who learned to full on fight and perform rituals without her staff. So the writer nerfing comicbook Nick's powers to how they used to be when she was a teen, is just a massive disappointment.
@@lucariomew365 that’s genuinely so irritating. she couldve been so more, n literally the most powerful being ever, but nope:] writers say she forgets🤬🤬 complete bs. its just as annoying as the whole ‘it was all a dream’ plot. like wtaf😞 how are they gonna do her so unbelievably dirty like that:[ she fr deserves so much better both in comic and show😭 i now strongly dislike the comicbook writers
@@RylansVoice They literally retconned her powers via time travel. Chase basically goes back in time, causing a time warp and Nico notices her staff and arm are back to how they were when she was younger. And all the limitations she overcame were undone. When Chase comes back to the present he's like oops, didn't mean to do that. All of this happened in the span of a single page, and that's how they choose to leave it.
@@lucariomew365 that is extremely stupid.:{ and very sad. it rlly sucks how they be treating nico. although i guess i understand why they did it -shes too powerful.- she wouldve easily overpowered ppl like doctor strange and scarlet witch within the next year or so. literally couldve became the actual fucking chosin one😭 even the mf gibborim n gods of the universe fear her😭 but nope. boom. 1 page flipped n all that hope is lost😥
im today years old as i discovered Nico in Marvel Snap Game and i was curious to know more... so thanks for the introduction.
The Runaways tv series was really good..
Calling it right now. Midnight suns leads into strange academy in the mcu
Kinda hard to happen, but would love to see both series adapted oh so much
Nico is Marvel's version of Raven.🖤
love Nico
This was pretty dope . Could you do a video in each of the runaways ?
You should do more runaways deep dives
The thing that disturbs me in Nico is her name. It reminds me of “Nicolau”, which is a grandpa name where I live and it’s short form is… Nico 😂
Excellent character my favorite character in the runaways team I want the runaways back in the MCU
I can't really get behind recommending Arena or Undercover for a lot of reasons, but otherwise, your recommendations for her hold up.
Though I'd quibble about what she does being blood magic, since that was largely a retcon from Arena that never held up (Runaways vol 5 seems to go out of its way to retcon back everything Arena set up). If any word on Nico's magic should be taken, it should be from herself and the Witchbreaker.
Though I'm partly convinced that the One is her Grimmshape, something the Witchbreaker mentioned when they met.
How was the last Runaways series? Any good?
@@matthewschwartz6607 an overall solid outing, though the ending was mildly fumbled due to Covid. It's very much about the interpersonal drama over the adventures, but it works.
Do you have any advise on how I should grow my channel
what comic is 9:52 from
Without the staff, does she still have the ability to alter reality like she did with “legal adoption”?
No. Her magic is not that potent without the staff. She can still do a lot, but it's more 'standardized'.
I'd like to think Marvel's "Runaways" show did a good job of covering her powers. You should give it a watch
@Bluefacebaby I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the Runaways show. Especially given the fact it was on Hulu and is a fairly low-budget show about an obscure team. I liked it way more than Cloak & Dagger, though that ain't saying a whole lot...
Was the show any good?
So good that people MCU to adopt them.
I'm starting to think that some of y'all don't actually watch his videos. He literally said it was good in the video
No, they made ridiculous changes and ruined the best character Alex Wilder
@@CPKerney No they didn't. Had the show kept going we would of saw the outcome. The last episode showed him with all there powers so they definitely would of gave us the go goods. Its just didn't have enough support.
@Bluefacebaby 👆 this. And boy, I gotta say I think it's incredibly intellectually lazy to make the argument that "X movie/show adapted from Y comic is bad because they made changes to the original story". We're what? Almost 15 yrs deep into the MCU and other related media? So while yes, we all wish and hope that they would hire people like Ernie, Rob, Carter, and Dope to be in the writer's room and craft perfect stories every time (which even they wouldn't do with 100% consistency), at this point, we all know the deal; they're gonna change shit and deviate from the source material at their leisure. So yeah, comparing the shows/movies to the comics, at least insofar as simply saying "this was changed therefore it's bad" is just a cop-out in my opinion. At least come up with an original argument.
Okay! DC's Stargirl or Marvel's Nico, who wins in a battle?
Nico imo.
@@joshuaa2278 , why?
They really did need a Raven clone. So glad they were finally able to check this box. Big relief.
