"It's not that I'm smart, it's that you're stupid." Dear GOD do I feel that... I used to say that under my breath all the time in my younger days. It seemed like I was constantly being accused of thinking I'm "so smart." Meanwhile I have always enjoyed being around people who I can sense are smarter than me. Lots of people don't seem to be wired that way, they rather prefer that no one in the room be smarter than they are. What a shame. Many of us (myself included) learned to compromise on that and "play dumb" and "blend in" as we got older. For better or worse, Rip has refused to do that. I gotta respect that.
I like the compactness and efficiency of the linear progression. I go to the gym, I end up doing a total 5x5 on that lift (2 sets of warm-up, 3 sets of working set) and done. Boom. Not complicated, not fancy, it just works. I rarely have the luxury to be in the gym for more than an hour, so this system works really well for me.
This is ultimately why it works. People think you need complex programs and I’m sure a lot of that is masturbatory “look how much work I did” rather than pounds on the bar.
I just squatted 335lbs for a 3x5. And honestly I felt like 320lbs was a harder workout. Anyway, I put 335 on the bar and said "Shit, I really don't know about this.." but I did it.
@@GreyRock100 Folks just need to do it a few times to see the value. I'd say 4 out of fahve times I'm not sure I'll get that last rep, I do it anyway and make it back up, etc. And if you don't, that's why God created safeties. But we are stronger/more capable than we think generally.

Steiner is still around. His strength training is old school, especially in relying on a whole bunch of supplemental exercises, etc..., and he thinks Arthur Jones' original Nautilus was good, but he was critical in getting martial arts out of rejecting progressive strength training.

Every time a novice thinks they can get Rip to sign off on adding exercises or powerlifting and body building strategies. I can tell they want to skip to the part where they look good or have respect from athletes. They believe Arnold showed up to Gold's Gym at 6'2 103lbs a year before he won his first Mr Olympia. And it was the crunches and thoroughly confused muscles that made it happen so quickly.
I disagree with Sir Rips-a-lot on this one. I would say to definitely go to the "super woke, pro-blm" trainer and get some help with your form. When they bill you for their service, tell them that, as a trans person, them billing you feels very CIS-aggressive and that you cannot in good conscience participate in this type of capitalist arrangement. Say, "If I'm being honest, it feels a little rape-y."
It's embarrassing that the commenter doesn't understand that you don't wash a cast iron skillet once it's properly seasoned. If you are grown enough to type you ought to know this.
I don't understand why athletes other than strength athletes never need advanced strength programming. I thought you advance according to your position on the sra cycle? Surely someone who does more cardio will find it harder to recover from lifting? Not saying they'd lift as much as they could if they didn't do another sport but why is advance programming reserved for strength athletes?
Advanced strength programs should be personalized and give you the intensity and volume that you need. Advanced doesnt mean more complicated. It means you are squatting a shit ton of weight and adding 5# to your max is an epic endeavor. This is beyond having a strength foundation built from novice/intermediate. An athlete specializing in their sport will gain nothing from trying to strength train like that is their specialization. They should strength train, yes, but do not need advanced personalized programs.
So let's say for example a heavyweight pro boxer who's accumulated strength through maximising every stage of training in practical programming from nlp to texas to a 4 day split to 5-3-1 to olad and then block and they squeeze out every bit of strength they can get while still training for their sport, getting in enough rest, eating enough and having periods where they focus on strength only during their off season, what would they do then?
@@dalebraithwaite6890 In that example, the further the boxer is away from a fight, the more strength work they can and should do. As a fight (the athletic performance) approaches most of their volume needs to be conditioning work. It doesnt matter what your squat and press is if you are gassed after 2 rounds.
51:15 - One of the big issues in English is that there isn't a gender-neutral singular pronoun. This wasn't the case in the message you were reading but if you are talking about a person of ambiguous gender and then try to reference said person, you are forced to use "he or she", which is awkward, and thus people result to improperly using "they."
"He" was the default pronoun unless it was specifically referring to a female, therefore English was and is just fine, it's just political correctness that complicated it.
Stronglifts gets used as shorthand for Starting Strength and sometimes they get grouped together In conversation. I'm sure that's been detrimental to your business.
