Those cover charges, in some cases, are more than what I'd spend at a restaurant for dinner, not just to get in the door. At those prices, I guess I'd be eating in one of the MDR's every day.
We are in our sixties and experienced cruisers. We have tried several companies, and for us, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have the best rating for food. However, Celebrity has a more refined side. We will be on Beyond in October, so thank you for this video.
Thank you for the review. We sailed on the Beyond in September and found the food to be quite good. We dined in Blu and were able to order off the main dining menu as well. Can verify that the buffet is very good for breakfast and lunch. While the food for dinner was good, the selection was indeed not as broad as we expected for a buffet. The majority of our meals were delish, with only one pasta dish that was OK. Overall, very satisfied. Service throughout was marvelous.
We will be cruising in Oct, very much looking forward to it. However I am amazed at the up charges for the specialty dinning venues. Surely a lot more than what we are a custom to. This is are first Celebrity cruise,

Wonderful review - Your attention to detail and capturing all of the photos, etc. was wonderful. I am very interested in Celebrity and I think your reviews really helped in my decision to look into them in the near future. It seem the trend is downgrading portions and food quality. Glad to see the service is still very good to excellent on celebrity.
Your reviewed was excellent and very visual. I love the Celebrity cruises. We sailed on the Beyond in early December. The decor was of the ship was modern and gorgeous.My favorite so far. Excellent food and the new concept of the buffet with the multiples islands and the variety of food from around the world was amazing. No long waiting lines. The Mediterranean style sunset area was beautiful and romantic. The shows were great. I do not have anything wrong with g to say but All is Well❤
My concern with the food is the “cost” essentially most specialty dining offers are that if a restaurant on land. Seems a high price to pay to get great food. I want to do celebrity but that’s a lot of extra cash to pay

Disappointed with the food on the Celebrity Edge on 11 day Cruise from 1/23/23 to 2/3/23. Quality and portion size not what previously experienced on 7 other Celebrity cruises.

Question: Regarding liking the prawn cocktail, but it not being a large enough portion. I was under the impression that you could order multiple dishes (not just one starter, main and pudding) or do I have this wrong?
You can order another portion. But then you have to get the waiter/waitress's attention, which might take some time, and it can throw off the whole timing of the meal. Also, some people are "shy" about ordering two of something, not wanting to appear over indulgent, so it put the guest in a potentially uncomfortable situation.

In January we sailed Beyond b/b, first leg main dining second Aqua class. I agree with good to excellent rating, Blue was better but the multiple dinning format in main worked for us. Raw on five is excellent..
I lived on Crete for several years while in the Air Force. I love saganaki. But I didn't find the menu very Greek at all. It was fine, but not all that Greek for my tastes. Oceanview cafe for breakfast was good. What I missed (and probably should miss) was a traditional biscuits and gravy. Loved Cafe Al Baccio also. The 'cocktail' coffees were very good, as well as the standard coffee drinks. The lobster bisque was my favorite at Le Grande Bistro, but I also found the burger incredible, although as burgers go, Luminae has my favorite. You mentioned the cream corn. Very good. Almost 3-Forks good. I don't usually do the steakhouse, as there are many fine ones elsewhere. However, we have reservations at Fine Cut and am very anxious to try the dry aged steak, although ribeye is my typical go-to. We've also booked Eden for dinner, as our Apex experience was our favorite, ever, at sea. While the specialty dining is a bit pricey, our cabin came with a lot of OBC, so 'sort-of' consider it included. Once again, your tastes mirror my own, and you've left me anxious for our May 12 night Mediterranean cruise. Enough opportunity to try so much!
Congrats on being IF on a cruise….I would choose to opt out of breakfast in that case as well. There is nothing overwhelmingly incredible in most breakfast offerings. We find we are more mindful with eating while on a cruise and enjoy many times coming home to weight loss as we enjoy the quality not the quantity in having meals prepared for us. I agree, with the exception of Luminae. The breakfast there is something I don't miss. Often we eat in the buffet. I found the breakfast in the buffet fine, but like most, not exemplary.
Just came off Infinity in Buenos Aires and during two weeks sailing I just had everything to try. Overall I will give 2.5 stars out of five. Low point is I had to return food back to the kitchen.

Good question about the leftovers. I don't think anyone has ever asked that before. I'm not sure that they would keep paper or plastic containers on board for that.
Celebrity speciality dining costs have spiraled out of control& I would never say that any of the speciality dining would rate a 10. Have tried them all on apex & beyond
Several comments: 1) I thought the buffet breakfast of Celebrity was BETTER than the MDR in both selection and quality which is the opposite for HAL. 2) There is less selection in the buffet at dinner time. There is also about 75% fewer people using the buffet at dinner compared to the other meals. I saw no difference in the quality of the food. 3) I have to admit that I have never felt the need to eat at a specialty restaurant. I feel that in most cases, I can find the same food at home locally at a lower price. No, I am NOT a steak person.
Next time try the Prime Rib Sandwich in Eden...amazing. Wife and I flew to Rome to sail on the Edge in the Eastern Mediterranean to the Greek Isles. This Sept we will be flying to Barcelona sailing in the Western Med on the Reflection in Aqua Class. Hopefully the cuisine is as good as my last cruise.

Eclipse on a recent cruise was not as good as previously (we were non suite guests) - Main Dining Room - food okay but any steak ordered either via the everyday selection or as a daily special (e.g Steak in Madeira sauce) we found poor. The steak was very thin and overly tender. Buffet was very good at Lunchtime but in the evening it was poor - consisting of little more than Burgers and Pizzas with a few grill items (again very thin) and a couple of daily specials. Buffet breakfast was OK but it was the identical for 12 nights and the sausages were very poor - nice of they mix in a few variations (spicy rice, breakfast curry)
The regular steaks on the menu are like shoe soles and I stopped ordering them. I feel uncomfortable looking like a stupid nitpicker by sending 3 out of 4 steaks back, and I won't eat a tough "slice" of beef. In BLU as well as Luminae they can sometimes organize a filet mignon. You have to do specialty dining for steak on Celebrity.
I wonder if they make the food in the main dining areas less appealing so you pay to go to the restaurants? eg: French onion soup. We leave Nov 13th on the Beyond. Thanks for the honest review

I was on the Celebrity Beyond last month (October 2023). The food looked good but tasted awful. No matter how they tried, there was no disguising the low quality of the ingredients at Oceanview Cafe and the main dining rooms. At Normandie, for example, the french onion soup was thin and so overly salty, it was like drinking salt water. The beef was chewy and had no taste of beef. The only thing passable at Oceanview Cafe was the Indian food. We ate a few times at Raw on Five to escape the humdrum meals of the main dining rooms and found it OK even though it served only very basic dishes that were vaguely Japanese. We didn't go to the other speciality restaurants because we thought it better to cut our losses and not pay extra for what could possibly be mediocre food as well.
Agree. The ship is gorgeous. The steakhouse was amazing but everything else was awful. We ended up having pizza - which was mediocre - so many nights. I’m shocked at how bad it was. Hamburgers and hot dogs weren’t even edible.

It is really impossible to compare Silversea to the rest in this list and value is even harder to compare. If you like caviar, champagne and lots of it, it is probably a better "value". Silversea is a step above as far as luxury and personal service. Everyone gets a suite and every suite has a butler.
On the beyond now. My strip was 2/3 the size of yours. Didn’t get the aged. Sides stone cold. Steak not hot. Tough. Salads ok but wedge drenched in dressing. I had to go down and get my drink as I waited 20 minutes. I would say for 65 dollars worst steakhouse I have had and we have done clever it’s and royal and over 100 cruises. Most expensive and worst. My wife got the ribeye. It should have been called the salt eye. Cold and not good. The head of the steakhouse came over to apologize and offer us to come back no charge and see we didn’t eat our meal or even try desert. I will say tomorrow is day three. We just came off holland America Rotterdam where we did two sailings in December. Food blew this away. Service blew this away. I’m shocked as we did the edge 4 years ago and it was over the top good. We did silhouette two years ago and same. But this cruise the food so far has not been good. Even breakfast was the worst omelet I’ve had. How do you mess up an omelet. Let’s hope it improves. They are charging over 18k for a sky suite. 10k more than what we booked it for two years ago on an 11 day cruise and I would say quality is WAY down so far. The only thing up is the prices they are charging. Entertainment isn’t even as good. We listened to people all around us complain so far. I loved celebrity but I’m shocked at the level of service. In the retreat today not one staff asked me if I wanted anything. First ever on a cruise let alone the suite life. Wow.

Your acceptance of the high prices & also added Gratuities at specialty dinning lunch & dinner restaurants PLUS you giving them such high ratings even when they are providing slow service (for which you paid gratuities on top of the Ship's gratuities) as happened at Raw 5, - & then you receive no "credit" (money back) for not using the Main Dining Rooms nor the Main Cafe because you are in the very high priced Specialty Dinning --- Your Acceptance (along with other rich people) of this high cost dining will drive Cruise Ship pricing higher & higher! High priced Specialty dining is already affecting the food and the service in the Main Dining rooms! Its beyond my comprehension that you accept this (along with other rich pasengers) on a run of the mill Celebrity cruise ship (It is NOT Viking nor Oceania nor Seabourn or the others in Premium or Luxury class cruise ships!
Totally agree. Now that I have experienced cruising on the Beyond, I can say it's overpriced, and much too hyped up by many youtubers. My travelling companions had been on the Edge class ships before and it was very obvious to them that Celebrity had undergone quite a bit of cost cutting. That really showed in the standards and quality of the meals in the main dining rooms. The days of being served lobster at no extra charge are history now. One can't help feeling sad and ripped off when even a simple cappuccino is considered specialty coffee and has to be paid for over and above the cost of the cruise.
Who you votes for impacts inflation the cruise line can't control. Forget about what someone gets paid. That will never change. Fossil fuel costs can make cruising less expensive. Unfortunately we can't have it both ways. The bonuses paid to executives. Forget about it. It will not change. Change what you can. It matters.
Can’t believe you just glossed over the dramatic cutbacks in the Oceanview Cafe for dinner. It’s less than 50% of what it was. But you’ve obviously been paid to do the review by Celebrity, hence your 9/10 rating. Sad that you guys have become paid shills now too.

at the speciality steak house for example could you have ordered the strip steak and the tomahawk if you wanted to try both??
I doubt I could do that because the Tomahawk is specifically described on the menu as being for 2 people.
I understand that Celebrity Beyond has assigned seating times. Is this true? What if you get an 8:30 p.m. time and you want to eat earlier? Can you?

They instituted the tipping because people were leaving no tip. You can always add cash tip to it.
I don't recall seeing add-on charges for additional entrees, other than the lobster tail.

That depends on the drink package. But the premium package does include Cafe al Bacio.

did you ever explain why you are using air quotes around the gratuity?
I think I did in another video. If something is added to your bill automatically, then I don't consider it a gratuity, it is just an added fee.
So my question is: Do you pay for the food on TOP of the cover charge?
In specialty dining, you only pay the cover charge and gratuities. That covers the cost of your meal.

We're sailing on the Edge in a few weeks, does the Eden have a restaurant and a cafe please? I'm confused. Thankyou.
Yes, the restaurant is open for dinner only. The cafe is open for lunch every day and breakfast on sea days.

On the beyond now. My strip was 2/3 the size of yours. Didn’t get the aged. Sides stone cold. Steak not hot. Tough. Salads ok but wedge drenched in dressing. I had to go down and get my drink as I waited 20 minutes. I would say for 65 dollars worst steakhouse I have had and we have done clever it’s and royal and over 100 cruises. Most expensive and worst. My wife got the ribeye. It should have been called the salt eye. Cold and not good. The head of the steakhouse came over to apologize and offer us to come back no charge and see we didn’t eat our meal or even try desert. I will say tomorrow is day three. We just came off holland America Rotterdam where we did two sailings in December. Food blew this away. Service blew this away. I’m shocked as we did the edge 4 years ago and it was over the top good. We did silhouette two years ago and same. But this cruise the food so far has not been good. Even breakfast was the worst omelet I’ve had. How do you mess up an omelet. Let’s hope it improves. They are charging over 18k for a sky suite. 10k more than what we booked it for two years ago on an 11 day cruise and I would say quality is WAY down so far. The only thing up is the prices they are charging. Entertainment isn’t even as good. We listened to people all around us complain so far. I loved celebrity but I’m shocked at the level of service. In the retreat today not one staff asked me if I wanted anything. First ever on a cruise let alone the suite life. Wow.

Your acceptance of the high prices & also added Gratuities at specialty dinning lunch & dinner restaurants PLUS you giving them such high ratings even when they are providing slow service (for which you paid gratuities on top of the Ship's gratuities) as happened at Raw 5, - & then you receive no "credit" (money back) for not using the Main Dining Rooms nor the Main Cafe because you are in the very high priced Specialty Dinning --- Your Acceptance (along with other rich people) of this high cost dining will drive Cruise Ship pricing higher & higher! High priced Specialty dining is already affecting the food and the service in the Main Dining rooms! Its beyond my comprehension that you accept this (along with other rich pasengers) on a run of the mill Celebrity cruise ship (It is NOT Viking nor Oceania nor Seabourn or the others in Premium or Luxury class cruise ships!
Totally agree. Now that I have experienced cruising on the Beyond, I can say it's overpriced, and much too hyped up by many youtubers. My travelling companions had been on the Edge class ships before and it was very obvious to them that Celebrity had undergone quite a bit of cost cutting. That really showed in the standards and quality of the meals in the main dining rooms. The days of being served lobster at no extra charge are history now. One can't help feeling sad and ripped off when even a simple cappuccino is considered specialty coffee and has to be paid for over and above the cost of the cruise.
Who you votes for impacts inflation the cruise line can't control. Forget about what someone gets paid. That will never change. Fossil fuel costs can make cruising less expensive. Unfortunately we can't have it both ways. The bonuses paid to executives. Forget about it. It will not change. Change what you can. It matters.
Preparing 15,000 meal servings per day is the height of fine cuisine...just ask any Michelin star chef 😂😂😂

Can’t believe you just glossed over the dramatic cutbacks in the Oceanview Cafe for dinner. It’s less than 50% of what it was. But you’ve obviously been paid to do the review by Celebrity, hence your 9/10 rating. Sad that you guys have become paid shills now too.

We have been Celebrity 4 times. I love onion soup and have to say it was excellent on every cruise.

I only saw it on the menu at Le Grand Bistro.
