    Vedanta is not a subject matter, a spiritual doctrine, or a philosophy - it is a method of self-inquiry (atma-vichara) based on the wisdom (vidya) of the ancient rishis, as found in the Upanishads, a part of the sacred Vedic scriptures. This method can lead you to discover your true, divine nature (sat-chit-ananda atma) and gain moksha, freedom from suffering.
    Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: www.arshabodha...

    What an amazing and profound chapter! Shankara is such a genius with lots of wit. The part which talks about mind reflecting consciousness reminds me of Buddhist tradition teachings on Melong / Mirror / Looking glass especially important in Dzogchen. Shankara doesn't let it know word by word but states the same thing, that mind is always empty and pure, it only reflects quality and form but it is originally unaltered. Shankara further explains that its content is consciousness. I agree that these profound teachings change our outlook on ourselves and the world significantly. Blessing!!!! Thank you. Om Shanti! 🙏

    thank you for your most interesting lectures! could you explain the contradiction that seems to me. in the beginning, we talk about consciousness as an informed observer, thanks to which we are aware of everything that happens in the mind. then we say that consciousness is reflected in the mind as in a mirror of light and consciousness will manifest itself through the reflection of the mind. then it turns out that consciousness depends on the mind and is limited to it. the poles have changed. please explain this

    Is EGO a basis that keeps the body (panch tatva) intact in a deep sleep? In other words, is it the only thing left in a deep sleep maintaining its form?

    Thank you, Swami-ji. I've never really understood the concept of the mind reflecting consciousness. All is consciousness, and consciousness is not an object, so how could it be reflected? That assumes a duality of consciousness and non-consciousness, and somehow this consciousness, an object, is reflected within non-consciousness. Leaving that aside, it's easy to see thoughts AS consciousness, because consciousness is all there is. "My thoughts are me, but I'm not my thoughts." makes sense to me, but "the reflection of consciousness" makes no sense to me.

      When Purush (Shiv) and Prakriti (Shakti) unite the Purush reflects (or experiences) the Prakriti and the Prakriti reflects the Purush. Think of Purush and Prakriti uniting just like a man and women have sex except that there is no sexual organ. They unite until the Prakriti disintegrates. This desire of the Purush and Prakriti to unite is the ignorance which makes them think they are one while actually only Purush is real while Prakriti's existence is changing / temporary / maya.

    • @alukuhito
      @alukuhito Год назад

      @@vs9324 But whatever purush and prakriti are, they're just consciousness. If "consciousness" reflects, it's an object, so why say it reflects?

    • @vs9324
      @vs9324 Год назад

      @@alukuhito Purush is consciousness, prakriti is matter / maya (including our body and mind). When there is a union matter imbibes the quality (maybe the right word is constituents or elements) of consciousness and consciousness imbibes the quality of matter. That is where the error arises. Matter reflects consciousness and, in my opinion, vice versa too. Consciousness too reflects matter as it is one now. There is a union. While Vedantis use the term "mirror" , i prefer to conceptualize it as union or intermingling of consciousness and matter. This intermingling appears as one but is actually two different things.

    • @alukuhito
      @alukuhito Год назад

      @@vs9324 OK, but if purush is consciousness, then prakriti is already purush, because everything is consciousness. How can you have anything outside of consciousness? Matter isn't separate from consciousness. How can consciousness ever intermingle with anything? Consciousness isn't an object, yet all objects are consciousness.

    Does really Consciousness [Ātma] move? NO. But it seems so. Why? Because we confuse Consciousness with Chidābhāsa or Chith-chāya or as Bhagavān Buddha puts it, Vinyāņa. Chidābhāsa is a reflected Consciousness in the constantly shining intellect, the birth place of ego. When Chidābhāsa based ego expresses itself through the mind and the five senses, Chidābhāsa arises and fades away like waves on the surface of an Ocean. When a rũpa of an object touches [saṁyôjana] the eye-gôlaka [apparatus] an eye-consciousness [eye-chidābhāsa] arises, stays for some time and soon after fades away; when a sound touches ear gôlaka, an ear-chidābhāsa arises, stays for some time and later on fades away etc. In other words, when the objects of senses like śabdha, sparśa, rũpa, rasa and gaņdha come in contact with the respective equipment, respective chidābhāsa arises, stays for some time and afterwards fades away. Chidābhāsa is not real, it is mithya. However, Prajne [Chith], the Source of Chidābhāsa, is unchangeable [nishcala]. Because we use the word Prane even for the reflected-consciousnesses of senses [including mind], we also presume that Prajne [Ātma] also moves. Swamiji's brilliant explanations certainly help us to clear our confusions in this regard. Thank you very much my dear Swāmiji.
