I really liked this mod, I thought it had flaws but it was supposed to be over the top and ridiculous so I loved it. It breaks my heart that the devs are a bunch babies that can't handle criticism and would do immoral crap like this.
Damn based on the title I thought it was gonna be something cool like the Sun leaking too many radio waves, but it’s just a bunch of nerds having a power trip and thinking it’s cool to sneak in code meant to harass people
Isn't it just refusing service? Lets say you're handing out free meals. A few people review and trash your cooking. So next time when they show up you tell them to move along while you hand out more free meals. They might be shit but you got a right to refuse service. It's not like they actively harm the machines of these people, they just can't run the specific mod.
@johnwest6083 if the devs did a better job and were able to handle criticism like adults, then they would've used the negative videos to see where they could have improved, but no. They chose to blacklist any bad press.
And here I thought modders were different from AAA game devs. Apparently they're still people eating in the modding community who can't take constructive criticism. Instead of if you don't like it don't play it they said if you don't like it you can't play it.
Modders are just nerds, and nerds can be as petty as anyone else. For a few years the Skyrim modding scene was essentially controlled by the dev that made the Unofficial Patch, and he would straight up DMCA people who tried to make their own patches or remove the bullshit he put into his mods.
I’ve worked at game companies as an engine developer. Occasionally, we’d hire someone and find out they were like this. They were fired within the probationary period. We need team players who can accept criticism. If you can’t take criticism, you’re worthless to us. These people also generally didn’t get another shot at another company because we pretty well know each other.
I think my favorite part about this is that one of the blacklisted RUclipsrs has like barely 300 subs. Like how petty do you have to be to blacklist such a small RUclipsr
Minecraft had a similar problem If you make a mod DO NOT have extra crap built in that serves no immediate use Best case it’s some function that was left over that was forgotten about Worst case it’s a back door onto your computer
So… a game with a ban system is technically a Trojan, yes? It’s got a payload that negatively impacts players on certain conditions (the servers dictating that the player is banned). While I do think the devs were petty, I’d say this is the best way they could have banned the RUclipsrs. Because if they were to just prevent the RUclipsrs from downloading the mod, it would be stupidly easy to bypass that. If it’s baked into the mod itself, *and* the mod is closed source, well, these players are likely not going to be able to play your mod without spoofing their steam ID, which is much more complicated than just looking for a download elsewhere
@NotAdachiPeople Big difference between regulated anti cheats and some logic bomb made by some stinky dude in his 30's. Logic bomb gets you insta banned of nexus as it should.
Honestly if they just hadn’t let their ego get to them then I would be on their side. If you don’t like a mod, you don’t have to install it. It’s as simple as that. They could have actually taken the criticism to heart and actually made something they could be proud of.
Honestly the idea of a game scanning for specific steam users and doing something is hilarious. I would love to invent a game and implement such a list, and the list would exclusively consist of people who defend bad or nonexistent keyboard/mouse controls by scrambling controller inputs, and disabling keyboard inputs outright. Or the people who say framerate locks are good, they will instead have a game that runs at 17fps, the most unpleasant framerate according to science.
@sciencewithfun2052 So, in your world, giving someone negative feedback is the same as physically assaulting them, and launching a targeted cyber-attack is the same as legally getting a restraining order. All I can say is, good luck in life and my condolences to any friends, family members and coworkers who have to deal with you IRL.

Dude what? That’s a slippery slope man. All they did was ban a few people from using their mods. They didn’t harm the base game or the user’s computer. Any mod could lead to PC hacking or malware spreading.
@@connorcornwall1404 I think that’s considered a logical fallacy, the slippery slope fallacy. The general idea of this is “because they did this, they could do this and this and this.” Plus, I mean, any mod that edits DLLs can do the same “because this mod used a custom DLL file, it could end up silently inserting a Trojan, which could end up ruining your computer, even though all it did was edit that DLL file.”
The fucked up thing is a similar situation happened in the Sonic fandom a few years ago. Someone made a fan game with sprite edits, and if you try to access the files or look up cheats for the game, it would either force close or give you some cringe creepypasta jumpscare. It would also randomly create a file which would execute itself, connect to an IP address, and then delete itself. Needless to say the uploaded got his proverbial shit kicked in and has been banned from all future Sonic fan game expos.
@JesterOfLemmings firstly just because it is single player mod doesn't mean they can't harass the devs on forums, secondly it was only technically considered malware because of the method used to access the IDs
Correction: The phrase "the sun is leaking" actually comes from Deadwater Gaming channel, specifically their first HL2OC vid (Half-Life 2: Overcharged is a Very Big Deal)
@@alienmagiHere "malicious" has a technical meaning: that the software exfiltrates data, damages the computer system, or otherwise exploits the system's resources. This situation doesn't fit the definition of "malware." I agree with you that the modders are acting out of malice. Targeting specific users and denying them equal use of a free mod released to the public is petty, unprofessional, unethical, and undermines trust in the modding community as a whole. But calling this "malware" misrepresents the offense and I fear may distract the community from holding the modders accountable for their actual actions.
Imagine that they were not just disallowed from playing at all, but were sent viruses instead because their SteamID matches a conditional check. That is when it's malware.
@ThaGuus no, not all games have that, the games that do ban people usually use ip or hardware ban, and in the case they don't use either they ban accounts (ex: COD)
This is definitely petty, and possibly even unethical. But unless one's definition of "malware" is "software that deliberately goes against the wishes and expectations of the user," it's unlikely to be malware. There are frameworks that catalogue each of the malicious actions that malware can take (Dewey Decimal style) and none of them consider "(selectively) refusing to launch" to be a malicious action: malware must cause damage.
The content creators are in the wrong here for harassing them, it is clear they sent their simps to harass them when they got banned from using the mod
it's malware because unless you're a developer of the Steam platform itself (not a game nor a mod), you shouldn't access that kind of user data, it's against Steam's user agreements and stuff
@@Ect0foxI don’t agree with this logic because technically any .exe file would be considered a virus because it could have ran bad code. If you could explain further and point out why my argument is wrong, please do. I am currently neutral.
Not really malicious at all, the devs blocked them from using THEIR mod, if they simply uninstall the mod the game functions as normal. Its like claiming someone's malicious for banning you from their Minecraft server for talking sh*t about them lol.
Agreed: not at all malicious in the technical sense. The mod platforms (ModDB et al) are well within their rights to ban this mod, but my hope is that they do so for the right reasons, i.e. not "this mod is malware." Rather something like "these actions were divisive and unprofessional; singling out specific users to deny them equal enjoyment of the mod goes against our community values" gets to the point and clearly illustrates the line that was crossed here.
@@ThaGuus Lock players out of playing at all, for starters. If there is a Logic Bomb, there is trouble. Imagine if the respective Steam IDs were sent viruses on their machines, they would be entirely in the right to want Valve on Overcharged's throats.

Can you talk about the gpus companies use in data centers? You talk a lot about the gpus for the common consumer, which is nice, but it would be cool to watch some RUclips shorts about gpus made specifically for large companies for significant processing power. Love your content btw!

Don't you just need a CPU for that ?
I really liked this mod, I thought it had flaws but it was supposed to be over the top and ridiculous so I loved it. It breaks my heart that the devs are a bunch babies that can't handle criticism and would do immoral crap like this.
It was harassment not criticism
@sciencewithfun2052 yeah, I mean the devs couldn't handle criticism so they harassed the reviewers.
@ct3000 the devs didn't harass them, the "reviewers" did

Damn based on the title I thought it was gonna be something cool like the Sun leaking too many radio waves, but it’s just a bunch of nerds having a power trip and thinking it’s cool to sneak in code meant to harass people
I thought it an actual sun leaking something from the core
Isn't it just refusing service? Lets say you're handing out free meals. A few people review and trash your cooking. So next time when they show up you tell them to move along while you hand out more free meals. They might be shit but you got a right to refuse service. It's not like they actively harm the machines of these people, they just can't run the specific mod.
Quit defending influencers
i was thinking about the sun as in the news site

Honestly, when I first saw “the sun is leaking” I thought that the mod had a bug with skyboxes or something like that.

RUclipsrs as 'Anticitizens' lmao
In my Indie game, there were members of the community that were cool and got hard coded highlights to their user names. They were blue!
yea having a payload that negatively impacts users and only activates under set conditions is like definition of a trojan
@NotAdachiPeoplegame with a ban system doesn’t crash your program.
@NotAdachiPeopleit’s called a logic bonb and gets you INSTANTLY BANNED on nexus, no questions asked, permanently. this is malware
@NotAdachiPeople Big difference between regulated anti cheats and some logic bomb made by some stinky dude in his 30's. Logic bomb gets you insta banned of nexus as it should.
@ I see, so the way they did it is wrong…
Honestly if they just hadn’t let their ego get to them then I would be on their side. If you don’t like a mod, you don’t have to install it. It’s as simple as that. They could have actually taken the criticism to heart and actually made something they could be proud of.

For clarification, the Vanity URL shown in the code is just a comment put there to clarify which Steam IDs were blacklisted in the code below.
was not expecting this to be news on this channel
also the sun is leaking.
Well now that's an interesting level of petty
I love how everyone commented "The sun is leaking"
Honestly the idea of a game scanning for specific steam users and doing something is hilarious. I would love to invent a game and implement such a list, and the list would exclusively consist of people who defend bad or nonexistent keyboard/mouse controls by scrambling controller inputs, and disabling keyboard inputs outright. Or the people who say framerate locks are good, they will instead have a game that runs at 17fps, the most unpleasant framerate according to science.
Imagine if you left a negative review on a fanfiction and the author sent you pipe bomb in the mail. That's the closest equivalent to this.
@@generalrubbish9513 nope it is like you going to slap an artist at their house and they get a restraining order on you
@sciencewithfun2052 So, in your world, giving someone negative feedback is the same as physically assaulting them, and launching a targeted cyber-attack is the same as legally getting a restraining order. All I can say is, good luck in life and my condolences to any friends, family members and coworkers who have to deal with you IRL.
It’s not like the mod creator sent a pipe bomb to his house 😭
It’s really ain’t that deep, banning people you don’t like off a mod you host for free isn’t that bad
@@generalrubbish9513 That is not right, a more correct thing would be: You leave a bad review on a fanfic and the person sends you a letter saying I don’t want you reading my works. In response, you say omg you sent me a letter, that could’ve been a pipe bomb and then you send death threats to the fanfic writer.
@MarsRover81Yeah, but the things the mod creators did can also be done to inject malware into targeted computers
First time i know something before this legend makes a video about it
Valve should sue ngl, This could lead to pc hacking or malware spreading.
Dude what? That’s a slippery slope man. All they did was ban a few people from using their mods. They didn’t harm the base game or the user’s computer. Any mod could lead to PC hacking or malware spreading.
@NotAdachiPeople people tend to look at the bigger picture.yes all they did is a simple blacklist but who knows what else they can do?
@@connorcornwall1404 I think that’s considered a logical fallacy, the slippery slope fallacy. The general idea of this is “because they did this, they could do this and this and this.” Plus, I mean, any mod that edits DLLs can do the same “because this mod used a custom DLL file, it could end up silently inserting a Trojan, which could end up ruining your computer, even though all it did was edit that DLL file.”
The sun is leaking sounds like analog horror
That's a fantastic way to help stop people from leaving a bad review from a game that you play MODS on
this mod is the definition of "chuck shit at a wall and see if it sticks"
Imagine being _so_ sensitive to criticism that you pull something like this. At that point I wouldn’t even mod anything, I’d just quit tbh
Technically the way their going about this is considered really pathetic lmao
Don't forget deadwater gaming started the whole "the sun is leaking" gag
this kinda modder behavior is not okay, how petty
Banning people who harass you is perfectly ok
@sciencewithfun2052 its a video game mod, not a multiplayer game, they never harrased the devs, and injecting malware into peoples games isn't very ok
@JesterOfLemmings firstly just because it is single player mod doesn't mean they can't harass the devs on forums, secondly it was only technically considered malware because of the method used to access the IDs
@sciencewithfun2052 I guess breaking into someone's house and not taking anything is only "technically" considered burglary, then?
@generalrubbish9513 shitty analogy, more like looking into someone's house isn't considered burglary
Correction: The phrase "the sun is leaking" actually comes from Deadwater Gaming channel, specifically their first HL2OC vid (Half-Life 2: Overcharged is a Very Big Deal)
How the hell is a hardcoded black list considered malware
Because its malicious software.
@@alienmagiHere "malicious" has a technical meaning: that the software exfiltrates data, damages the computer system, or otherwise exploits the system's resources. This situation doesn't fit the definition of "malware."
I agree with you that the modders are acting out of malice.
Oh, that makes perfect sense.
The devs really have to wake up, cause the sun is leaking
Fun not so certain fact, using steam IDs to hardcode bans os against TOS (this is from not so great memory of actually reading the TOS)
Against what TOS?
@@ThaGuus Steam ToS
Literally what else would have a rule against banning Steam IDs?
@Lo-Sir It's not on Steam, and banning by steamid is not against their TOS all multiplayer games have that functionality.
@ThaGuus no, not all games have that, the games that do ban people usually use ip or hardware ban, and in the case they don't use either they ban accounts (ex: COD)
Does this count as a Streisand Effect?
This is insane but let’s be real, this is not malware 😂 it’s honestly kinda funny
It is malware, software that you download that acts in a malicious way (blocking you from playing the game) and also targets specific people
This is definitely petty, and possibly even unethical. But unless one's definition of "malware" is "software that deliberately goes against the wishes and expectations of the user," it's unlikely to be malware. There are frameworks that catalogue each of the malicious actions that malware can take (Dewey Decimal style) and none of them consider "(selectively) refusing to launch" to be a malicious action: malware must cause damage.

it's malware because unless you're a developer of the Steam platform itself (not a game nor a mod), you shouldn't access that kind of user data, it's against Steam's user agreements and stuff

@@CFSworks Violation of TOS is also unprofessional.
