Brilliant! Although I'd love to know if Robert Guillaume shared any screen time with Inga Swenson, just to give "Benson" fans a kick. Bill Conti came back for the second... but not the third.
I had the pleasure of seeing all three parts as they were originally broadcast, and it really was a sweeping saga. The tv adaption was far superior to the novels the were based on. It is IMHO one of the late Patrick Swayze's most underrated and best roles portraying Orrie Maine.
I was 12 in 1985 when our country's state-run terrestrial TV station broadcast this series but only for one season. Now, our satellite TV provider reruns it, just concluded Book 1.
I actually loved Bill Conti's score more than the miniseries itself - it was absolutely majestic - but I still enjoyed watching the show. I don't think they needed to do three full miniseries (and Patrick Swayze didn't come back for the third anyway), but the cast kept you watching.
In the book the Orry character is killed in the 2nd book so it made sense. They really should not have made a 3rd mini-series b/c the mini-series genre was kind of played out.
❤ Greetings from coastal Mississippi and Twelve Oaks plantation. One of the best mini series. 40 year anniversary
Great music and fantastic tv serie! ❤👏🏻🤠
Best miniseries hands down. I'm still watching him whenever I can.

This was was Swayze's breakout role.
@@emerybayblues, and you can tell. He really got into the role... and did his homework as well.

Excellent miniseries 👍🎬😎
Superlative music and series - what else can one say. Would love to see this again.
Those 1970s mini-series were just great.
Wendy Kilbourne - great as Jack Killian's boss in Midnight Caller.
Good night America wherever you are...
And Jonathan Frakes!
Wendy Kilbourne and James Read got married in 1988 and have 3 children. She's currently an attorney.

@@emerybayblues Agreed.
watching it
While some outdoor scenes were shot in the southeast, the majority of the film's interiors were shot in Burbank.
