    Loving this! I was surprised to see op. 13 on here, but then again, just because it's more intense than than the others of that period doesn't mean it should be very hard. I'd be interested to have your take on the hardest sonatas too!

    The 3 Gs, as I call them are a good start. The I Movement of the G Minor Op 49 is lovely, but more difficult to perform than it looks on paper.

    I think op 10 no. 1 is easier than either of op. 14 sonatas. It’s much more pianistically comfortable, and aside from those two 3:4 spots in the last movement, and some uncomfortable passages in the right hand in the second movement, it’s quite manageable.

    Just a quick question, the op.2 no.1 is usually considered one of the easier Beethoven Sonatas between the op.14s and the op.10s. Could you elaborate why you feel like op.2 no.1 is harder than what people usually say as it’s not in this list?

      my personal opinion is that
      First movement: turns hard to play with dynamic range, syncopated part and balance is rather hard to do a lot more contrast in feeling between sections
      Second movement: quite easy, but the last 1 or 2 pages can be quite challenging with polyrhythms, aside from that its just the same old nailing every note
      Third movement: just easy
      Fourth movement: arpeggiated base is quite challenging when playing at proper tempo, chords must alway be even and voicing must be proper. constant 2 against 3 polyrhythm moving octave jumps in left hands is not easy. Overall tempo is really fast
      Sonatas listed here dont have many intricate details, its just Beethoven's signature fury and proudness

    Oh really, the op 10 as third? Interesting. I've played the op 49, 28 (first full Sonata, though I obviously couldn't get the Coda down yet at the time) and now learning the op 2 no 3. Considering I'm almost 'done' with it (are we ever, really?), I might just learn the op 10 no 1 afterwards, or the pathetique. I'd love to learn the Tempest, but I believe it to be a little too difficult still :P.
    Edit: 8:19 to add to this, it is also so valuable to play entire Sonatas in one go when you're done as it truly tests your stamina (and memory, like you mentioned). Super useful if you ever get the opportunity to perform

    I'm surprised the moonlight didn't appear, it was not hard at all when I learnt it at 13😅 I'm thinking of learning more beethoven as he is my 2nd favorite composer! Thank you for this video, I didn't know I needed it, but I now see i was wrong, I needed it!

    Anything that is a Henle 7 rating is not by ANY means easy…

      Wer🎃talking about Beethoven, ya goofy. His works are pretty demanding regardless of where you look.

      @joeyboi87 2 года назад +4

      Lol goofy! I saaaaay how immensely cheeky 😂. I know his works are demanding it’s just amusing that Henle 7 is considered easy! But I do definitely agree with the order here. And I’m glad that for once someone has also listed Beethovens op 111 as being more demanding than the Hammerklavier! I’ve always thought this myself!

      Henle sometimes overrate some piece and underrate other like hungarian rhapsody 2 and 9 that are definitely level 9 but they added it on level 8
