    Bharat benz 3123 Driving experience
    Expert Review
    Overview
BharatBenz has become one of the popular truck in the Indian market with its robust products, high performance engines, effective mileage and stylish looks. With truck available for all applications, 3123 is one, which has emerged as a pioneer in the industry and has become the first choice of people.
Categorized under haulage trucks, 3123 has been developed specifically for rugged Indian roads where heavy load carrying can’t be denied. The parts like chassis, clutch, gearbox, frame body and others have been built using high strength material lab tested under rigorous conditions. The longer service intervals and lower maintenance cost too adds overall usability to the vehicle.
    Specs:
    Engine - DE170 6-Cylinder 6.4 Litre BS-III
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) - 31,000 kg
    Wheelbase - 5,775 mm
    Power Steering - Yes
    Engine and Performance
Boosted by DE170 6-Cylinder 6.4 Litre 6,373 cc BS-III engine, 3123 is fit to produce a maximum power of 224.8 bhp power @ 2,200 rpm and a pounding torque of 810 Nm @ 1,200 - 1,600 rpm. Only a few haulage trucks are able to churn out this much power and torque, but 3123 doesn’t only produce these numbers smoothly rather performs consequentially well too.
Talking about the speed, it could hit a top speed of 90 km/h and with the gradeability of 18.3%, the ascents are not a problem at all to conquer. Helping the truck to achieve these numbers is 6-speed Mechanical Synchromesh gear box and supporting the transmission process is 395 mm Single Dry Plate clutch with boosters.
    Vehicle Built and Load Capacity
The wheelbase of 5,775 mm is good enough with the overall length of 9,867 mm and turning radius of 10,800 mm. Its overall width and height of 2,490 mm and 2,960 mm are also fir to carry the overall Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 31,000 kg.
It sits 264 mm above the ground after decking up load full to its payload capacity of 18,500 kg that makes the kerb weight 9,100 kg. The payload capacity is too rated as one of the best in its class.
    Handling and Suspension
With the heavy load capacity, comes the need of better handling system that requires less effort and offer easy movement in any direction. To ensure this, BharatBenz 3123 has Hydraulic Power Assisted steering, which offers ease and comfort while maneuvering the truck.
To counter off the jerk effects, it has Parabolic Type Leaf Spring with 2 Hydraulic Shock Absorbers as front suspension and Balancer Type Semi Elliptical Leaf Springs type rear suspension. The Reverse Elliot and GEE Pusher Type front axle and Fully Floating Hypoid Gears type rear axle also support to provide the balance drive.
    Braking and Safety
It has combination of Pneumatic Foot Operated Dual Line service brakes with Hand Control Valve parking brakes acting on rear wheels, shortens the braking system enough to be on safer side. The engine exhaust brakes also works to not only bring the truck to rest, but chips in for betterment of mileage as well.
Discussing more about safety, the cabin is crash tested under harsh conditions with positive results, there is Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) available with seat belts, side impact beam and steel bumper.
    Design and Comfort
BharatBenz has also taken care of designs, which was not focused until now by most of the brands. 3123 is very fine looking truck with easy to climb cabin, aerodynamic cabin structure and wider wind screen.
Inside too, the cabin is very spacious with sleeper berth, tilt movement and ergonomic feel, 3-way adjustable design, noise reductions precautions and handy digital instrument cluster.
