Milds we’re very strong in the early days pre Second World War. I have brewed a few in my time but always made them in excess of 5% ABV. Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby mild is a good example of a strong mild and one I have brewed successfully a few times.
When I was a kid in the late fifties early sixties my grandmother had a pub as did my parents in Marsden. Near Huddersfield .
A lot of the people then would have a pint of mixed which was half mild and half bitter. The older customers would ask for half and half ( or AYF and AYF) as they called it. My mother hated pulling this as it was a half pint glass with half mild and half bitter in. It was a difficult pull on the old hand pumps!😂
I'm anticipating you trying the Brewdog Black Heart !
There are a lot of side-by-side reviews with Guinness at the moment !🍻
I've watched some of them and it sounds positive for Brewdog, some preferring it. To be honest I think a better comparison would be against a craft stout. Guinness isn't all that great. When I go over to Ireland for work, I'd have to say its one of the worst Irish Stouts. There are some great Stouts over there.
@@MrScotchpie I've tried it and it reminds me of Beamish from back in the late 80s (inspector Morse sponsored by Beamish) 🍻
I'm old school and Mild will always be a cask beer alongside Bitter. Seems just alright though👍
It's an alright Mild. Nothing fancy but good when you just want a beer while watching TV. Not one to analyse.
cannae beat a pint of belhaven black form the tap
