You are an ace at assembling and conveying all the details that are usually skipped, but which I find fascinating.

The logic behind her being a replenishment ship at the front line is actually very sound. Under different circumstances it could have been quite successful.
The fact it took the ship so long to sink despite being struck by so many torpedoes and not having her water tight interior doors installed is a great testament to how good the ship actually was.

    Iron concrete? Fascinating.

You filled in a lot more info about this ship than I had known before. I thought most of the specs of these amazing ships were destroyed and that was all there was. Thanks for this video.

Shinano was built to replenish an air fleet Japan no longer possessed.

what would you have done with the empty 46cm magazines instead?

At the time Japan did have the fleet. It takes 2 yrs so things do change from the decision to start and when completion is accomplished.

A lot of interesting details that flesh out the basic story. Thanks.

The irony of an aircraft carrier not being water-tight should be drilled into the Navy afterwards. Any leak is a catastrophe.

The ship was commissioned not because it was actually ready for service, but because of the need to get the ship underway and to a location safe from B- 29 bombing raids. She was actually in a partially completed state- and barely ready just to put to sea. The hull was watertight, but it was supremely vulnerable to torpedo attack.

I was always puzzled why the IJN didn't prioritize exchanging the secondary batteries on Yamato and Musashi with the 10 CM guns.

Lack of available numbers of the turrets was the primary reason.

This is the last of Yamato's sisters that still need to be discovered.
May I ask, will you ever discuss the test range for Yamato's main guns at Kamegakubi?
Take care, and all the best.

@@christophersnyder1532 I intend to make a video covering the Type 94 46cm gun, similar to what I did for the 15.5cm gun. The testing will most certainly be included.
      Thanks, take care as well.

So Shinano was never meant to launch and/or recover aircraft on its own deck, just restock other carriers when they suffered losses to their air groups?

    • @centralcrossing4732
      @centralcrossing4732  3 месяца назад +7

@@TyrannoJoris_Rex It had its own air groups. The mentioned 50-60 planes in the hanger were for Shinano's use only. The 100-130 would have been partially assembled aircraft that could be quickly reassembled and sent to operate on other carriers. It was capable of operating its own aircraft while supplying others.
