    Love this moment in the film. It's perhaps the only moment that Gilda is completely vulnerable, relaxed, and herself- not vamping, taunting, seducing her male admirers. She seems sad as she sings the song, but the bartender seems to be a real friend and not a leech. Thanks for posting.

      As a guitarist I can definitely confirm her hands aren't in the right places to sound the chords that we hear. This is especially apparent when the camera moves to the back view of the guitar neck and the chords are changing and the fretting hand isn't moving at all.

    As with Natalie Wood in West Side Story, it's unfortunate they didn't give Rita a chance to do all her own singing. Her actual voice is quite pleasant with some very touching overtones. Though I must say, Anita Ellis was a fine singer, though she didn't shine to the utmost until the '50s and beyond when she became one of the premier jazz singers of her generation.

    The top 4 are easy to name: Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor (and, 'A Place In The Sun' is one of my favorite movies!), and Rita Hayworth. The fifth spot goes to either Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Ingrid Bergman, or Grace Kelly.

    I Love Rita so much. There was really no one quite like. her. And she was a legendary Star. And for those who believe she's singing here, my comment that it is Anita Ellis is NOT a challenge. I just think that to be the case. But we are all entitled to come to our own conclusions. (Jo Ann Greer's voice was used for other Rita films like "Miss Sadie Thompson" & "Zip" from "Pal Joey") For me, nothing can diminish the Rita Hayworth effect. She was one of the most incredible artists ever to grace the screen.

    the singer who song all Rita's songs is called Anita Ellis.
    You can buy her CD's with all these songs.

    Anita Ellis, I believe, sang for her in the rest of the film, but I read in a book which covers all her movies that she might be singing in this scene herself.
    She had a sweet voice.
    She did sing with Carol Burnett on her variety show.

      Yes, I have that book. It does talk about when Rita actually sang and why. She also sang for the troops and on the Carole Burnett show and in a few other films.

    How on earth did this woman think she couldn't sing? That was a convincing jazz vocal performance, albeit soft and easy.

    • @diqweezle9751
      @diqweezle9751 3 года назад +2

      Upon further research -- she was probably lying. No way the studio would pay extra for a pro if she could sing that well.
