This song starts out with a discussion about "chi" (or energy.) Message of the video is simple: Careful what and who you invest your energy in, especially if you are trying to prove a point to someone else or for money. Use your energy wisely as someday you will need it to help yourself or someone else and before you realise it, you are burnt out. In the video we see his friends come and go, the girl comes and goes, money comes and goes - all that is left is your chi. And when he is faced with a situation where he needs to help someone else, an actual worthwhile pursuit, he is unable to.
Yeah, gush over the song if you like, fine, but for every one of these excellent tunes, there were 20 Limp Bizkits, Creeds, Sugar Rays, Sisqos, and Smash Mouths. The decade wasn't some magical time for music... you're just engaging in nostalgia porn.
There's a pub in Glasgow called the Horseshoe bar and they have Travis platinum and gold discs behind the bar.. as a thank you for being the place where they started.
I think they've contributed to that themselves by often being the support act. For example, they have been supporting The Killers lately - but Travis for me are a way better band than them
I feel like this rarely gets mentioned. But their acting in this video is severely underrated. It's very naturalistic and just fits the tone of the whole video without feeling wooden at all. Really adds to the overall impact of the video.
You might forget the song, but you never forget this video - then you come here and it reminds you what a brilliant song this is. (& how lovely that girl is)
Who still loves this amazing song in 2022! His vocals have such an emotional quality. It’s a song I remember on MTV. MTV is where I got some of the best music from esp when they added MTV Rock 🙌🏻
I think the best way to sum up this song is its like life. You set a goal for yourself. Meet a girl, but she leaves (better or for worse). You succeed at by everyone else’s standards except for your own that you set out. Your friends leave because you don’t listen to their advice. And then after you continue with your life trying to achieve what you are not sure of a much bigger problem that is more than you comes up but you have no way to stop it because your burned out already.
'Why does it always...' was the first Travis' song that I listened to, but Turn is definitely the most important to me. The first cd I bought. It was 2005. I was 10. Lovely memories. The best ones, I guess. The band of my childhood, that's for sure. Time flies. Greetings from Madrid.
God I miss these guys! And also the era where guitar based bands were still being played on popular radio stations. We can only hope that pop music becomes this good again.

Here neither group was big, the theatre was OK, 2500-3000 people, but the show was fantastic. I am a big Oasis fan too, but that night I discovered Fran Healy as well.

The first Indie band that I really became obsessed with!! I (a little girl from south east london) remember telling my school friends at the time that I liked Travis. I was laughed @. I think of the bands/musicians (if you will) they were ranting & raving about. Most have not been heard of/spoken of for at least nearly 2 decades kmt. I have seen so many bands/artists etc over the years & Travis are on my list!!! Travis' music formed the foundation of my obsession with Indie/Indie-Rock music & Scotland!!

Aah the 90's, when life felt like life.
I was addicted to this song back in the year 2000. I haven't heard it in years but it just popped into my head.
me too dude. Met them once while working in the grog shop next to their recording studio. Top men.
