The K8-S was designed with cobbles in mind, and that's exactly what Chris Froome and the other yellow jersey contenders have to deal with on Stage 4 of this years Tour. The defining feature of this bike, which was unveiled in the spring of 2015, is the rear 'suspension' system which intersects the seatpost and seatstays. It offers up to to 10mm of travel.
Other modifications for the pavé include FMB tubulars, usually only seen at the spring classic Paris-Roubaix, plus an extra layer of handlebar tape to make the tops that little bit more comfy.
Will Froomey survive the cobblestones? Who will be victorious on the day? Let us know in the comments section below!

Congrats to Froome for winning the yellow jersey.
Always great videos and loving the washed out yellow GCN T-Shirt
He needs "LOOK AHEAD OF YOU FFS" written on his stem.
very interesting bottle cage choice. I used to have one of those, but I got rid of it because it didn't hold the bottle as good as a newer style.
Hi was wondering if you guys could do a video on the osymetric chainrings? Seen a few videos on it but am still none the wiser.
The "little plastic things" under the riders saddles are so that their speed and other small details can be shown to us watching at home and their team, it's the start of something very big in cycling tech
Love this bike.
What is that thing under/behind saddles at the Tour de France? Cannot see it on this bike...
+Michal Formánek they were trackers to see where the riders were on the road
9070 Di2 is known for its second-to-none- front shift quality, but I still wonder how it shifts with those chainrings. Would love to bet a dollar that he's still missed a shift ocassionally when going up from the small chainring to the 52.
I changed from Speedplay pedals to SPD-SL's and theyre real nice..nice n wide a platform - you feel like youre enveloped by them with a nice bit of movement WELL recommended!! + you get the walkable pontoons on the cleats over Looks.. #shimanoowemeafiver LOL
lee a dorney just did the reverse, ill take the cornering clearance, the weight savings, the adjustable float, and the double sided entry. considering the cleat makes it a giant platform theres no power loss either
+ an additional 30 quid
- as for weight savings, that's negligible, wearing of the pedal body is an issue as well. Hope youve only a size 8 foot, no more + the stiffest shoe around! oh and get the cleat covers ;)
And grease them after every ride!
Is there any particular reason for the set-back fork from the headtube on the K8?.. only real thing i can think of is improved handling maybe?
Trek's system for the cobbles (I think it's called the decuppler?) is definitely better than the suspension on this bike.
Wow, I've never seen a asymmetrical gear wheel, interesting. More efficient torque?
Congrats to Froome for winning the yellow jersey, though I don't think he wanted the golden shower too.
What / whats the stages power meter? I didn't see it and you didn't mention it on both your recent sky bike reviews? ??
by looking at this bike, what do you think is the head tube length, 152mm, 163mm or 170mm? this way i could know what is the frame size of this bike.
Stage 4 is 223.5 km long, won't that suspension absorb too much of energy just because of those few pavé section?
how about the weight?
is it the same frame size that he uses for the F8 bike? thank you!
Frame Size?? any idea? highly appreciated if i can find out. thank you!
So did Porte bring his motorized home again?
Don't see much Campagnolo these days. I guess they've had their day.
+no 1s here Many teams ride campagnolo including lotto-soudal,movistar,astana
Glad to hear that. It's a great company with the greatest tradition.
I find it interesting to only have suspension at the rear as with mt biking if you only have one shock absorber it is at the front
Daryl Liggins On a MTB, when off-road, it's relatively easy to stand and take the harshness of the trail with your legs as they are so powerful. This can't be done on a road bike when the vast majority of the time is spent sitting. It is more difficult to absorb bumps, especially whilst steering, with your arms and so the suspension is located at the front. Also, outright efficiency is not so heavily required on a MTB. It is easier to make up ground by having suspension which enables you to go downhill far faster than by having a lighter bike enabling you to go up hill better. You will notice that the front suspension compresses when pedaling and this is simply too much of a power efficiency disadvantage on a road bike especially when coupled with aero disadvantage etc.
They should rotate the oval chainstays 90 degrees on touring or comfort road bikes
Do most pro riders that use FMB tires choose cotton or silk casing? Why would they pick one over the other?
Froome to win
is Chris Froome not using a power meter on his bike ?
What is the UCI restriction on tyre width?
Would he be able to jump on a mountain bike for the 13 KM of cobbles?
What is the price?
Can I just ask, almost all of the riders on every team have a bit of plastic stuck out from behind the saddle this year. It looks to small to be an ass saver mudguard, so what is it?
I've just seen on a forum that they are part of a data collection system.
Yep, I posted on a G+ group and they said it was dimension data systems. If you google it, it will lead to a beta testing site. You can see a live plot of everyone's speed and stats. Pretty neat but also glitchy at the moment.
what is that assymertic thing good for? Can someone explain me please?
Fotsirvelk It basically changes the gear you're pushing throughout the pedalstroke itself. The idea being to raise the gear when you're at your most powerful part of the pedalstroke, and lower it when you're not. They went through a rise in popularity a year or so ago, but many riders have since returned to using normal round rings. Chris clearly likes them though.
Looks like audio and video are not in sync ;) fortunately it does not change much :)
Whats that pop at 1:29?
I like your beard. :-)
Blaze it up 420
Come on guys me and anyone who gives even half a shit about bikes in South Africa whould like to see one of MTN Quebeka's Cervelo S5 that they are using at this year's tour, please guys, I think alot of people really want to see one of their TDF bikes!!!!!!!!!
Surely with only 13km it's better to focus on the normal road conditions rather than perhaps over compensate on the cobbles
kwacker45 im guessing hell drop to 25c tires honestly
kwacker45 I think one of the big reasons that they're using this bike, despite only having to ride 13k of cobbles, is to advertise their sponsor's bike, even though it's not really necessary.
kwacker45 You have a point, but the cobbles are insane, like riding on rocks, so it's a balancing act. I'm pretty sure last year, Peter Sagan actually started the cobbled stage with normal tires, then actually traded his bike during the stage to one with wider tires for the cobbled section.
i actually have talked to people who say that its fine over cobbles, but theyd never use it for a descent. more or less its a one trick pony
how much would this bike cost?....retail price
MIKAEL FLYER I reckon it would be in the neighborhood of 9000€ +... Canyon, for instance, sells their Ultimate series in the Team Movistar replica model for a cool €7.500 (with a €1.000 discount...). Given the detail of the "suspension" and the aftermarket Osymmetrics, you just add it all up...
Those chainstays are bloody skrawny
Just like chris Froome himself !
I cant work out why you get a susp. unit on the BACK yet nowt on the front ? #doesntmakesense
***** Yes, tho i feel theirs room for front susp. i some way...contained in a small area and maintenance free.
lee a dorney yeah its called a mountain bike, you need the rear wheel to stay on the ground. youre usually sitting on a road bike, so you obviously absorb more with your ass then your arms
I'd like to see s.1 try riding a tour stage on an mtb... #uci
what cassette size have this bike?
+Haralabos Lukatos looks like a 11 - 25
thank you for the answer. I use 53/39 crank and 9 speeds cassette 12-25. For flats is good but in hills i pedal seated but in steep hills i slow down i want go with 12-30 or 12-32 cassette. for non racing is good that cassette? I do like cassette 12-23 small gaps between gears but i need low gears for hills. In one old steel bike i have even is weight 27 pounds in hills with the 50/40 crank and 8 speeds cassette 12-30 i feel easier to pedal in hills.
12 - 30 sounds good, i wouldnt go anything higher than that but it depends where our riding
thank you for the answer. Do you think 12-30 cassette is good for hills elevation from 700 feet to 900 feet? And if is okay for flats too? I do want put 12-23 cassette on my bike or 13-23 if i can found but i do not race i think if i was okay with cassette 12-30 even no have try that cassette i do feel is good. But i not know if have big gaps between gears.
a 11-28 is a good all rounder but you could go for something a bit easyer like the 12-30 because of your 39 inner chainring. the gaps towards the fast end wont be big at all but when you hit the hills you might want to have something with smaller gaps inbetween.
The video is 4:20 long. Coincidence? I think not.
K to the 8 with a S...
I want one. Give me one.
I don't know who this bike would actually appeal to.
The electric bike 's froome
Dont ya reckon its OTT going on about Subscribing ALL THE TIME - ya never shut up about it... #jawannastepoutside LMAO...
£10 000 retail
4:20
Freakishly thin chainstays.
First
Electronic groupo???lol SMH
What next the fork suspension....this is all gimmick. Might as well ride a mountain bike. Changing the dimension of road racing....not to my liking.
STEROID INCLUDED WITH THAT BIKE? I LIKE FAST BIKE
