    I disagree, if you want to be a cloud engineer then having a sysops cert is very helpful, it’s shows that you understand how your development environment is configured and be able to troubleshoot issues, it’s why most engineers role are DevOps

    I think when it comes to *cloud specific* careers there’s some merit to skipping the sysops cert. however as someone who is the tech director for appsec at a fortune 50 firm, I want my cloud security folks to at least have all three associate level certs. Whether it’s right or not, as security assessment folks we are expected to be at least as smart as the people building and writing applications on these platforms. A pentester that understands AWS sysops can actually tell you how to fix what you did wrong. Architecture teaches you how to understand system design to guess more quickly where you should test, and the developer cert will tell you what future-forward designs are going to look like so you can successfully attack these implementations before they become commonplace.
    If you’re aiming for security focused careers, get the 3 associates then security, then the rest as interest dictates.
    That said, yes, if you plan on being an architect stick to the certs most relevant to the role.

    Cisco CCIE techs become architects because they know how to design, build and maintain/operate their infrastructure. All the best true architects know how to design, build and operate their infrastructure. The lightweight architects without the deep understanding of the nuts and bolts implementation are like business MBA graduates without any experience. The implication here for those with operations certs is that they won't understand systems thinking and design but having SysOps AND Cloud certs and showing a profound understanding of systems design will mitigate that assumption hirers can make.

    • @GoCloudArchitects
      @GoCloudArchitects  Год назад +3

      I wish the CCIE would create architectural. But the CCIE teaches implementation not architecture. My CCIE number is 7417 and it taught me how to implement not architecture. Cisco knows that and that’s why they created a CCDE. A design certification.
      The CCIE or any tech certification doesn’t teach design. It also doesn’t teach how to respond to an RFP, give a presentation, sell a solution, build a business case, write thought leadership documentation, negotiate a deal or anything architects do.
      The reason engineers feel architects are lightweight is their focus on on improving business performance while engineers are focused on building the tech.
      So if you want to be a great network engineer the CCIE is great. I like to say it was my intro to networking. It was a very fun six months of preparation for the CCIE. I loved it.
      But it was the other training, an MBA, consulting training, leadership training that made me an architect. In fact even being a lead architect at Cisco my manager asked me to remove the CCIE from my business cards as it created the impression of a techie not an architect.
      Thats why I retrain CCIEs, cloud engineers and other hands on tech professionals to be architects every day. As the people that hire don’t want a techie they want an executive that know how to improve business performance with tech.

    Hello,
    I still does not understand why a cloud engineer is so close from a cloud architect... and far from Devops.. when you looks for online jobs hire look for Cloud engineer, but with Devops tools in description.

    • @GoCloudArchitects
      @GoCloudArchitects  Год назад +5

      A cloud engineer and a cloud architect are so very different
      We architects design solutions to improve business performance - we don’t touch the technology.
      Engineers build the solutions.
      Job descriptions in tech are meaningless. It’s sad but true.
      We only get the real job description by asking the hiring manager what they want the person to do in their role.

    • @iliasse4401
      @iliasse4401 Год назад

      yes.. excuse me for the confusion, what I mean is that you would have to pass the Solution Architect certification to be "certified cloud engineer" while this role seems more appropriate to be certified by the "DevOps certification" when you look a theirs skills like i told
      And since the "cloud engineer" certification does not exist, I finally tell myself that it's a happy medium between the 2 roles...
      I find it crazy that the certifications are so disparate between AWS, AZURE, GCP...
      Finally thank you for your analysis your videos are a great help.@@GoCloudArchitects

    Opinion:
    Most cloud engineers want to be DevOps Engineers in the future; they would need to have a good grip on what happens under the hood: DVA+SOA.
    I would recommend SOA training for any Cloud Engineer/Solutions Architect who wants to understand the intricacies of AWS.

    Wow, I booked my SysOps exam and then found this video and now I'm confused. Why I chose this exam is that there are a crazy number of Architect Associate cert holders but at such a low level they will never really architect anything. But every company needs Cloud builders and Operations team and SysOps is perfect way to get into the company and then grow,.

    • @GoCloudArchitects
      @GoCloudArchitects  10 месяцев назад +3

      It’s true on cannot become an architect by passing a certification like the solutions architect professional. It takes architect training.
      The architect job requires network, datacenter, cloud and system design skills.
      It also requires leadership, sales skills, executive presence, emotional intelligence and business acumen.
      These skills cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence.
      But basic system’s administration skills like writing a python script, a bash shell scripts, a windows power-shell script, a terraform scripts or adding and removing users can be performed by AI now. And AI is only growing in capabilities.
      Now there will always be a need for the best systems administrators.
      So if this is something you like be the best you can be at it. Make sure you have great skills and don’t limit them to this certification. Consider the certification to be about 5 percent of the skills of a great sysops professional. And hone those skills and you will do great.

    I just passed SAA but I am not actively working with the cloud (so far, my boss wants to move me to a position where I can have more hands on with aws). Should I do sysops in the meantime or just spend some time making personal projects in aws, then go for sysops? Thank

      @@kmilo4307 what is your goal career?
      If it’s architecture, for example, like a cloud architecture or solution architect please don’t take sysops it’s learning skills for someone else’s career.
      If your goal is to be a systems administrator on the cloud then take sysops.
      If your goal is to be a cloud engineer. There are many more valuable things that you can learn then sysops.
      Note. When employers say hands-on experiences needed, they are generally not meaning hands-on experience - they are looking for competency which is the ability to do the job and do it well.
      No, AWS certification will provide competency
      So we need to know your goal career and then we can help you get all of the things beyond AWS certifications necessary to get the role you desire

      @GoCloudArchitects  Месяц назад

      @@kmilo4307 unfortunately getting certified and someone else’s career will not be helpful to anyone. Getting all the associates certifications is not helpful to anyone.
      Getting a professional certification in the career, desire is helpful.
      Becoming skilled in the career you desire is what matters.
      If you want to be a physician, don’t go to law school. If you want to be a DevOps professional learn DevOps not SysOps. Is the equivalent of a physician learning how to fly a plane to be a better physician.
      If you want to be a DevOps engineer, study software development and DevOps tools and methodologies.

    Thanks, for your awesome insights on the AWS Sysops certification and how certifications can impact our career goals. I agree with your emphasis on the importance of using certifications as a strategic tool for personal branding and employability rather than relying on them as a form of training. This is the same approach that I take towards certifications. In the same way that you instruct in your program, I pursue certifications that align with my career goals and provide value to potential employers. Your practical advice on how to approach certifications and make informed decisions about my career development has been priceless.
